    A pop song that had the Polymoog in the video was "We don't talk anymore" by Cliff Richards

    Thanks for the incredible walk through of this beast. That must have been a beast of a job to restore too! Thanks again.

      You're welcome, appreciate you watching. It's definitely a lot of work, it takes me roughly 2.5 to 3 weeks to get these 100% including the burn in and detailing.

    I remember jamming on one decades ago ( maybe 79 or 80 ) as a young man just starting out at a club in northern Minnesota below 0 degrees Fahrenheit. Had to let it warm up for half an hour in the club. Needless to say tho, it didn’t work well with most 70’s rock and roll as we were usually playing a piano or organ and these sounded cheap comparatively until the 80’s music came about. Now I want one to recreate that genre. But, com se com sa. I’ll probably load the vox Humana that Alex Ball sampled.
    Thank you for doing this restoration and demonstration. 🤓

      Yeah, the presets in my opinion hurt the polymoog greatly. There was so many sounds that could have been programmed but moog chose all these presets that were more suited for Jazz in my opinion. Strings is great but only when edited in the loudness contour.

    I always wanted to get my hands on one of these. I bought the Xils one when it came out like 5 years ago or so. I really wonder 1:1 how it compares. Great to see these videos becasue no one until recent has had any of the real deal I guess becasue they are so rare. The strings on the though are so distinct that I'm not sure another synth could make quite the same sound. Guessing the filters are just drastically different? Really makes me wish Lowery would have out adsr in their organs, could have competed. :)

    Great run-through. You’re killing me with these videos. Never ever considered getting a Polymoog, and now I want to get one and restore it. Maybe because I’ve been listening to so much Gary Numan lately 😅 Ha - I really dislike sliders, but this could get a pass.

      Thanks Scott, glad you enjoyed it. The polymoog is definitely something special for sure. I will add to your desire by saying that the sliders moog used were way better than the Arp sliders, I rarely have to replace any of them to be honest.

    I understand you created a software plug in (Poly Moog) including Vox Humana. I’d be most interested and does this include Vox Humana with phaser 100 effect? Again, I would absolutely love this and yes, I’m still creating multitrack demos (hobby).

    @synthpro - Thank you for being the torch-bearer for the Polymoog, over all these years.
    I'm curious, have you considered paying for someone like e.g. John D. McMaster to have a Polycom be decapped, and subsequently rev-enged?

    Foam that turns to grease, just like a rubber belt? 😨 I'd definitely take foam that turns to dust any day...

    what is a good solvent for cleaning that grease/tar from the felt that degrades over the board and sliders?

    • @synthpro
      @synthpro  Před 6 měsíci +2

      I actually use a small gasket scraper to removed the caked stuff and then use a degreaser to break the stuff down and wash. I treat circuit boards with the foam on it a bit different though, (this would be like Rogue, Opus 3, Liberation, MG-1). I will depopulate any rare are thermally sensitive component off circuit board and use the same degreaser method and work it in with a old toothbrush. I will wash the board and then soak them in alcohol for a few minutes. I then put them in a bake out oven and get them up to around 120°F for about 2 hours. Once dry, I will repopulate the board and then go through the electronics perform preventive servicing and calibrations. I put a minimum of 12 hours burn in time to make sure no problems show up. Labor of love to say the least.
      One note: when using degreasers or alcohol on the sliders; try to not work them too much as you can damage carbon tracks.

    In 1979, "Stern Combo Meissen" made massive use of the Polymoog in an adaptation of Vivaldi's "Spring".

    Such a beautiful sounding instrument and so great that you're keeping them alive! Ryuichi Sakamoto's performances with the Polymoog in early YMO concerts will always be among my favorites czcams.com/video/U-VSdvcJt_s/video.html
