- "Rick Wakeman owns nine Minimoogs. Not the re-booted Voyager version, synth fans, no: the former Yes keysman owns nine of the original Model Ds." PSNEurope.
Extract from the conversation about his first Minimoog with: Robert Moog.

Minimoog to Rick Wakeman is as Hammond organ to Jon Lord. An instrument tightly connected to his personality and defined his performance style
1:59 that moment you have to leave your moog and rush over to play your other moog.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Back sometime in the early nineties I went to see Rick at Buxton Opera House. He came on at the start of the show and apologised as his guitarist was stuck in traffic on the M6 and wasn't going to make it. Therefore he wouldn't be doing the planned show but would still do the show and play more piano/keyboard based numbers and did a full length show. After the interval he announced that he'd agreed with the theatre manager that he would do the planned show on the following night and we could all come free of charge. So we got two nights for the price of one. What a legend!
Wow!!! What a wonderful story!
Sweet.
Awesome!
Hi myself and 3 friends went to those shows as well
I thought Rick said the rest of the band went to Buxton Norfolk.
We were a little early the evening of the second show so we went for a jar or two in the pub opposite the Opera House
On the way back from the bar to our table Rick walked in he must have noticed I had on a tee shirt I bought the night before and he came and sat with us for about 30 minuets
He was impressed we had travelled from Derby 2 nights on the run just to see him
What an entertainer we would have paid just to listen to his stories
Wakeman was always the most incredible keyboard player and his work in the classic era of Yes will live as a musical legend forever...
That, and he wore capes!
@@MPeaches1958 Well, Edna Motes was very specific... No capes!
what,s with the "WAS"! ? he still "IS" ,! and making music just like his early years, best lightning fingered keyboard player on the planet, he is indeed a "super hero" to all of us who remember him in the 70,s and before, and "yes" ,all super heros wear "capes" even at 74 years old, god bless him...😇🎇🎇🎶🎵🎶🎹🎹.....
The best Rick Wakeman is the cape-wearing Rick Wakeman.
YHA. HE IZ THE FUCKIN JENOUS WIZARD. AND WARLOCK FOR SURE. WOW SPECTACULAR. N8GHTFENCER. GATEKEEPER. HOLBROOK MA. ROCK ON. THE L9NG WEEKEND COMING ☝ ROCK ON!!!!!!!!!!!!
There's nothing quite like Rick going flat out on a moog that sends me somewhere special.
Rick makes the Mini sing, for sure. He's got the "sound" dialed in and just wails away. So much fun to hear, and watch! Tony Banks does something similar with the Arp Soloist (Pro? DGX?) on early Genesis recordings.
I've met him as well and happy to confirm that he's a genuinely nice guy - as well as being an amazing musician.
Wow! How was that?
This must be true because so many people share this. I love that! Humble and incredible.
I confirm too!
I met Rick a few years ago and he graciously signed my Minimoog. Something I will treasure the rest of my living days!
I met Rick some years back, he is very gracious and down to earth. Singed our tickets and a couple of CD's. That MiniMoog is a special treasure, for sure!!
Wow! What a powerful moment, what an unforgetable memory. Congrats.
Did you bring your whole minimoog out to get signed ?
Was that you at 3:19? haha
Its worth money for sign autograph
I've always known Rick was an amazing keyboard player but I never knew how hilarious he was until I started watching interviews. I now think he wears those capes to just be ridiculous
Its not the number of Minimoogs he owns old or new, its pure talent that he owns and thousands of hours of practice and work. He is the last great synth player left on this planet.
There are loads of great players, young and old.
the LAST? that's such an insane statement dude
Yup.
I've seen a lot of amazing synth players. Turkuaz, Eli from dopapod, person who was playing for mars volta when I saw them last year, grizz although he's more all around, Georgio moridor or whatever from daft punk. List goes on. Lisa Bella Donna who is basically the moog mascot
Sorry no, the greatest keyboard player ever.
One of the greatest keyboard players in the world!!
Thank you for sharing this. ProgStock in NJ is celebrating Bob Moog this weekend, and it's great to see this ... :)
No problem! It’s amazing sharing a bit of Wakeman and Moog’s Universe with so kind people like you. Thanks!
And welcome to my Channel.
I was lucky enough to meet Mr. Bob Moog in 2004, when I was working (as a Sound Technician) in a Radio Station, and he had a speech in Barcelona. What a nice person! Unforgetable.
I also recommend you another one of my Clips, with a short intro from that speech: czcams.com/video/4Zv7FB45jjI/video.html
on of my biggest keyboard heroes of all time...even today after so many decades its hard to beat, what he did on the minimooag right from the start. so nice he is still around.
For the record, he does own a Voyager as well, as well as almost every other synth :) I saw him with Yes using one of each, then the last time I saw him (ARW's 1st tour) he was using 2 vintage Model D's...something special about those!
Sintetizador Moog só com ele mesmo !! ! !! Fera ! Não existe igual. Mr. Rick Wakeman.
Remember, the mini moon was monophonic. That makes his solos even more fantastic
You’re completely right. The Polymoog was another story…
oh my god - I love these people of Yes - since the beginning of the 70's
So glad I've seen Rick a good handful of times. Keyboard wizard!
Rick Wakeman, Keith Emerson, and Jordan Rudess. Put those three together to play and that would be the ultimate keyboard band!

Rick Wakeman once said about Minimoog invention: "For the first time you could go on and give the guitarist a run for his money...a guitarist would say, 'Oh shoot, he's got a Minimoog', so they're looking for eleven on their volume control - it's the only way they can compete." a reference to Spinal Tap. :-))
He also said, "It was great, it had a sound that could cut through concrete!"
Minimoogs go to 12. But don’t look at them or even point at them, they are very temperamental. And lastly, you would always hear them if they were playing.
Would have been cool if there is footage of him playing White Rock. Probably his best Minimoog solo.
You’re completely right. The problem is I haven’t found any White Rock’s video with enough quality, I mean with a similar standard to the rest of the videos. But the Minimoog right rhere is simply brilliant.
If I find one, at last, sure it’ll be in my next Mr. Wakeman Video.
Thanks for the appreciation.
Unrivalled Master of the Minimoog, among many other things.
Didn't know Boris was so versatile. Phoaah.Wiffwaff.
Rick Wakeman played the Minimoog like a guitar
Mini opened new possibilities for keyboard players, to make note bends (like guitarists do). before Mini invention, keyboards didnt have pitch bend and mod wheel controls. Minimoog set the new standard, which was copied by countless synth makers.
nobody plays the minimoog like rick wakeman.
Rick is great!..but the king of minimoog is Jan Hammer!
Tony Banks does!
Yeah amazing very fast a genius !
Józef Skrzek SBB plays on moog so good like Rick
check Stu Goldberg
That live in Cuba show was fantastic. _ALL GLORY_ goes to The KING of kings, and LORD of lords! HE....can command a morning! HE can put the dawn in its place! HE ....made the stars also! :)
Thanks for putting this together and sharing it Toni.
You’re welcome, thank you very much. A pleasure, to meet you in our Common Musical W.orld
Great Rick Wakeman!
RICK WAKEMAN ES LO MÁXIMO, ES COOL 🤩⭐🌟⭐🌟⭐🌟ES EXCELENTE SIN DUDA ALGUNA ES UNA SUPER ESTRELLA.
He really is like an otherworldly being
Simply Richard Christopher Wakeman 💪🎵🎼🎶🎹😎👊
Ah Rick 'moog' Wakeman. What more can be said
Rick Wakeman THE FINGERS. THE MASTER. FOREVER YES!!!🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹
Your Minimoog is broken Rick, it only plays one note at a time.
Ha, ha, ha...!!!
👏👏👏😂😂
Rick acquired his first MiniMoog from Jack Wild, who wrongfully thought his instrument was broken because it only played one note at a time.
Fantastic!!
Now with dear Keith no longer with us there are not that many Keyboard greats left from the world of Prog rock. Tony banks, Jack Lord and Eddie jobs yes! But Rick stands high above them all as the greatest!
Jon Lord and Eddie Jobson.
🎹🐥🎹
@@TryptychUK Jon Lord died in 2012 at age 71, leaving us just Rick, Tony Banks and Eddie Jobson.
@@ClassicTVMan1981X Yes, I know. I was correcting his spelling.
And Jordan Rudess
Yesterday I went to see him in his Buenos Aires concert here in Argentina. He only brought 2 cheap korg or Yamaha thin keyboards...
Amazing anyway....but the analog gear was a big absence.
I'd recommend checking Starship Trooper Keys Of Ascension version. The best version and the best Wakeman's solo with Yes IMO.
Just wonderful
The Maestro
excellent choices!!!!!!
Thank you very much. You’re very kind.
Genio!!!!
Unico❤️
Emerson, Wakeman and Banks pioneers of ......Prog Rock Rulez!!!!
I love and respect Wakemans music but (personal opinion) he's number two behind Emerson.
@@kenquinn7755 Absolutely!!! Totally agree. There's Keith, then everyone else. To me those three are the top three. Notice I put them in ranking order. No one else comes close.
And does anyone still have any doubt that he is the best of all time?
Now Rick is quite qualified to manipulate these magnificient instruments. Not many can.
2nd best rock keyboard player in the last 50 years.
The master ¡¡¡
Este maestro. Estubo en Argentina verdad. Hace unos 5 o6 años atras
I want a play off with Tony Banks & Rick!
MIGHTY ROCK GOD
He said that he owned nine Moogs, but six were nicked (stolen).
Huge sense of humor ..
Una bestia. Interpretando
Jaws falling down on the floor......
Das ist kein Mensch. Das ist ein Musik-Gott!
Superbe
Genius--GOAT
Caraca, tem até o Paco de Lucia tocando guitarra!!!! SHOW
veeeeery cool
It's been years since I've played a Minimoog. These days I have a Prophet on top of my Hammond, which is great and more flexible, but it doesn't sound as nasty and 'in your face' as a Minimoog (and us rockers all like nasty and 'in your face'!!)
The Goddddd Rick Wakeman!!!!!
He and jon lords classic keyboard playing were the best those times, while rick had an much clean sound, jon played vs an extrem distorted hammond organ and overdriven Sound, sharp as as raser. Korg had an great invention on rockin songs.
Now i know who Jordan Rudess was inspired by
The best
The Moog Maestro
Yes!!!!
величайшие музыканты... о,йес!
What was that second song? After heart of the sunrise?? And the third?? 😮
2. From Yessongs, the track’s an excerpt from The Six Wives Of Henry VIII.
3. From Criminal Record, Judas Iscariot.
@@ToniMartinTCPRIL dude thank you!!!!!!
I love the minimoog but it don't have presets. Buy 2 😊
After Close to the Edge, I don’t appreciate RW’s work so much. That was his artistic high point, in my opinion. However, I DO really like his Minimoog patches. In fact, they are often the yardstick that I use when I assess virtual Moogs. Go figure.
What song?
I've got one of the 9
Wow! How did you get it?
He sold it through a shop in london and a lot of other eqipment as well.
@@ToniMartinTCPRIL
The Wizard...
Reminds me a lot of the prog rock band Yes [ joke ]
Criminal Record! Is there more?????
Not sure. What’s sure is you have the whole song. Anyway, that’s what I’ve found without working it too hard, so... probably more?
💯❤️😇
Well, he still uses two at a time.
2:41 anyone know the track's name?
It’s the final part of Starship Trooper (The Yes Album) from his gig in Cuba, 2005.
czcams.com/video/i7GgqC5IO-g/video.html
1:46 can someone send me the complete yt video?
Sorry but I haven’t found the hole gig. It’s Rio de Janeiro 2014, and here it is one of the extracts I have came across: czcams.com/video/4Rr2sWko3QE/video.html
@@ToniMartinTCPRIL Thank you so much

He has stronger force than darth vader
I had a Micromoog once, until I told everyone that I had one and it was stolen a month later... Hahahahahahahaha 😂!!!
What is the song at 0:31
From Yessongs, 2nd lp, A-Side, Excerpts from "The Six Wives of Henry VIII" " (Wakeman) - 6:37
@@ToniMartinTCPRIL thank you!!
Well I guess KEITH EMERSON wasnt the only guy that could make one talk. Im still partial to E.L.P.
1:20 The name please!!
Judas Iscariot, from Criminal Record.
I seriously don't get it and I'm a guy with a room full of analog synths who's been playing since I was 3. It's just a flurry of mostly non-harmonizing notes like randomly pecking notes from scales real fast. I could see how it's impressive to ppl that never heard a synthesizer before or who can't play and are impressed by the fast notes but other than that I don't see it. The absolute opposite of Carlos Santana who makes every note count. I do like the cape.
song? 0:30 cheers
Originally in the Yessongs album, it’s a Rick’s solo part from the "Excerpts from "The Six Wives of Henry VIII".
Fix isser ja, muss man ihm lassen...
I'm not 2% as good as Rick and I have 4 vintage Model Ds.... 4 or 5. I had 4 or 5 Voyagers and recently sold all but 1. Barely broke even on those. Too many were made!
Only nine? :-)
Ha, ha, ha!!!
To be fair, they only play one note at a time.
@@davidflinn4521 you’re completely right. That’s how Wakeman got his first Minimoog, bought from someone who thought it did’nt work because of it.
@@ToniMartinTCPRIL That was the child actor Jack Wild.
@@TryptychUK you’re entirely right. Thanks for remembering it to me because my head goes like that with the passing of the years... :)
FAKE NEWS: the title should be "Rick Wakeman on MinimoogS"
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Is it just me or is he playing out of time?
yes = progressive sh .
If he owns nine MiniMoogs, why does he continue to play that Korg crap?
Very speedy. Very precisely. Very boring.
For you
@@pedrosebaguzman and for all who have ears
@@olegmakarov7877 I vehemently disagree, and that's a pathetically arrogant stance to have.
@@olegmakarov7877 🤣🤣🤣 (sarcástico)
He is no Jan Hammer on the Mini, but Rick have played some awesome keyboard parts throughout his work in Yes and his solo career and he was well respected by Robert Moog.
