- Belmont is primarily a residential area in the capital city, Port of Spain, on the Caribbean island of Trinidad. Belmont is known to have some of the narrowest streets in the country with unchanged houses that sit almost on the edge of each road's borders. In this video, I explore most of the major streets while commenting on Belmont today versus the past. Are you familiar with Belmont? Perhaps you once lived in Belmont or have relatives there. If so, please watch the whole video and give your comments about Belmont, Trinidad.

First suburbs founded by free emancipated African who were victims of slavery.
Thank you for your memories of this historkcal and preserved community. I lived on Erthig road opposite the theatre. Played for Heineken pan vibes formerly Texaco Dixeland. You're absolutely right about the streets. Very narrow. 75 - 79

Wow, I am so happy you did a video in my hometown. I presently live in Belmont on Bella Eau Road. In the video at I think it is 30:10 that school Belmont boys R.C. A girls' school by the name St. Martin’s Girls R.C. Secondary used to be there. I used to attend there. My class was the last to graduate from there in 2013. It was 50 years old and was run by Sis Luke, who at the time was in her early 90s. She resigned when I was in form 1, and Sis Mary took off. I love my hometown, but crime is too high. It was very peaceful when I was a little girl. I wish it could go back to how it was.

Man you brought back some deep memories. When you turned onto Gonzales Hill, all those homes on the rock walls, my grandfather built and my family owned for decades. I lived in the 2 white houses as you turned on to Gonzales Hill myself. Numbers 26 and 24, from 1973 to 1989 when I migrated. My dad is still alive. He was born in the corner White House in 1945. My grandfather had 17 kids. Only 2 are alive today. Thank you. ❤️❤️❤️

I left that school almost 48 years ago. The last time I walked that route you just drove was 48 years ago. Thank you for showing me my old home. It hasn't changed much

Great video the old neighborhood in the west are the most treasure ,and expensive, Belmont should be as well
For sure, Belmont should be top class.
Very informative and detailed trip through Belmont. I lived in Belmont for my entire childhood. Still visit a family home at St Francois Valley Road regularly. If my memory servs me right I believe there was no planning in the settling of Belmont. Upon the emancipation of slavery, the slaves who worked on the sugar estate that is now the Savannah simply settled east of the Estate in where is now Belmont. As time went by the tracks winding through the houses were paved.

As I mention before left age 10, in 1960, for UK, never revisited. Looking and listen to the guided tour video of places, I reminisced, A lot of named places mention was remembered. I visualised myself back then when as a child walking areas name mention. The roads as you said was narrow then in 1960, still is as you describe. 😂The long steps shown brought back thoughts I did have, before starting to climb the steps, I would look from bottom to top, before starting the l8ng climb 😂. There's great structural transformations, just names of places for my memory of where I once walk. I deeply appreciate you videos.

JBs, thanks for your camera lens tour of Belmont and various towns in Trinidad and Tobago. I'm sorry. I have not seen any footage of scenic Tobago as yet. However, I started to provide some comments reflecting on my childhood development in Belmont, but I page disappeared.
Great cherishable memories.
Great job.

Miss the old days when trinidad was a lawful country and only the police and the wealthy had guns in their possession.
this belmont used to be a fun town, with great house parties talented people, now today you have to watch where you traverse in this town, since you could lose your life easy in these places for absolutely no reason. so sad.
Thanks for your input into how it used to be for Belmont, Trinidad.
Roads for donkeys and horses.
Many London roads are like this, built for horse and carriage. Watching from the UK

My Trini friend here in the states would help me back out on to a busy road @ 33:25. Which I thought was unique but very thoughtful. No one really takes the initiative to help with tricky traffic situations here. It's so nice to see such kindness.
Thanks for sharing your experience with Trini help.
Thank you for this surprise video JB. Merry Christmas to you and your family, may God bless you 🙏😊
Thanks for watching. The very same to you and yours.
I grew up in Belmont right on Erthig Road. It used to be a very nice place to live. I haven't been back since 2007. Even when I visited back then, I was shocked to see how dismal Belmont has become. At night very dark and dangerous. A lot of homes have been demolished and are now just empty lots. It's also very crime ridden.
Thanks for your input into Belmont, Trinidad. Yes, it could be an amazing place but it has allowed to become dilapidated save for buildings facing the Savannah.
THANKS U WILL HERE FROM ME,, I DO ENJOY THE FACT AND KNOWLEDGE OF THE VIDEO, ❤❤JAH GUIDE U ❤

Thank you kindly for that information.
Continue your work
Thanks for your input into Belmont, Trinidad.
Boy, London congested too all the thatch houses are stuck together, everyone, has a little land, own by the King, there is alot of poverty too. We never have such beautiful founa and flora, blue skies. We dont have friendly people who greet you with good night , crime is high, but not everthing is placed on the media. When you live abroad you appreciate Trinidad.
Thanks for your input. While, I understand where you are coming from, comparisons between countries, in this way, seems to give a stamp of approval for mediocrity. However, you may be new to my Channel and will understand more of my perspective if you stay, watch and listen.
Hi JB, my father was from Belmount, Trinidad. And he was last seen there in his 20s before he came to the UK. He lived at number 10, Ervin lane. No
Water is a problem in all the rural areas of Trinidad
Thanks for your input. Very true. However, some more than others.
Most back streets in London, is exactly like this, Goodmayes, Tottenham, come on Londoners, trust me, they were built for horse and carriage, Im not shame. Crime is in every nation but they dont put everything on the media like Trinidad. There is a balance, so you walk thinking there is not much crime. Trinidad is beautiful, imagine seeing the northern range daily only when you cant, you realise what you miss.
Thanks for your input. However, I am not a fan of comparing what happens in Trinidad to other countries. You can see my crime series to learn more.
I grew up on these streets and went to that school in the 80's it was known as "Belmont Junior Secondary", everything looks so small now brings back memories I can't wait to move back home soon one day.
Dr Eric Williams went to Queens Royal College.@@JBsManCave
@@michaelsamuel9917 he went to Tranquility first and that is the school I was mixing up.
