Watch the BBC first on iPlayer 👉 bbc.in/iPlayer-Home Eighty-three-year-old John only turned his back for a moment while buying some parsley, but that was long enough for his wife Sheila, who has dementia, to disappear from his sight and into the busy streets of Gloucester town centre at lunchtime. After a frantic search around town, John calls Gloucestershire Police and a major search operation swings into action.

" She was and still is the most important thing in my life" - this made me cry.. 😭😭
Damn that hit hard
Me aswell x
Beautiful❤😪
Me too
God! And to think no one loves each other this much to stay married for life anymore
I cried a river.. And I'm so happy they found her.
There are tracking devices that the family can put on her clothes and she can wear a necklace too. What a loving husband!
I hope they sent the man some assistant poor thing like can't the government insurance help him Jesus
me me Unfortunately there is such little help for dementia. Most help costs families thousands and thousands.
Tracking devices need to be connected to a smart phone and unfortunately the elderly aren’t usually great with technology but hopefully they can get something set up and connect it to a younger member of their families phone.
At the end of the programme, they said that he had put his wife in a care home. So sad.
@seaglass22
It’s sad but this also affects his health as well. I think of this gentleman as the husband from the book and movie The Notebook.
Those caring members of the police are a credit to their force. That loving husband brought tears to my eyes. Thank goodness Sheila was found safe and well. But what a difficult future they both face.
They’re only a credit because they know they’re on camera 😂😂😂😂
The hardest part with dementia is as the disease gets worse, as a family member, you get the constant feeling that your loved one has already left you in spirit, and all you have left is their body :(
I did what I could for my Mom as sole caregiver through her years of alzheimers, but sadly she did not have terribly much joy as it progressed. She reached a point where she didn't seem to be reached by her music or favorite films (though I still provided them since we can't be sure). I was touched by Sheila's clear expressions of joy.
i'm so sorry :(
This is so sweet. He loves his wife so much!😊
Love is real, ladies and gentleman. Love is real if a rare sight.
I dont have a mum or dad but my best mates parents are going through this is, very hard to watch as I see them go through this every day
kenny d oh. Are u in foster care?
I wish I could have found that type of love.. bless his heart poor thing
There is so much love and kindness in this story!
Thank goodness they found her safe and well, well done to police.
This is the side of the Police the mob, the rioters and anarchists fail to appreciate.
The police in Britain aren't just a law enforcement agency; They are search and rescue specialists, first response medics, social workers, child safeguarding professionals, and above all, they are ordinary men and women just like the rest of us, except they do an extraordinary job.
Thank you for your kind words Miss Smiles.
The hardest thing in life is to care for an adult with Alzheimer’s disease. I had to take over the care of my Aunt whose only son was abusing her financially.
I had to be stern with the woman who was apart of my village that contributed to the person I am today. I remember praying 🙏🏼 one Christmas 🎄 for GOD to take her home when we took her to the emergency room one night. My prayer was answered and I thank GOD everyday for his compassion. This was my mother’s closest younger sister and the pain on her face was unrelenting.
I also thank GOD for sparing my mother of Alzheimer’s. Please give to researchers of Alzheimer’s, Dementia and Parkinson’s disease. There may not be a cure but the drug therapies hold tremendous potential.
Yeah its horrible. My grandad has alzheimers disease and its horrible seeing my mum being so strict with him
🥺 the love he has for his wife, I'm so glad they found her ❤
what a great man and woman ❤️❤️ معنای واقعی عشق را به بشریت میفهمانند این انسانهای شریف ❤️❤️
This made me cry ,it's very inspirational ...
May this couple never be a part ,lots of love
One day we will be old like em.
This is a true story of true love!! May God bless them both. The bus driver was an angel placed on her journey to be found. God bless everyone who brought her home.
What a lovely man
Omg I am crying so much right now. This is the best of us.
That's so sad and beautiful at the same time.
My dad made it age 100, and died from many co-morbid conditions, though not from dementia. For several years he showed many of the signs of the various forms of dementia, but thankfully was spared that form of death. However, I witnessed on a daily basis how seniors were treated by people in the so called helping professions. It broke my heart. This story helped put a smile on my face.
OMG so beautiful
Beautiful story, my mother has dementia as well, it is not easy. I am so glad that she was found.
Bless the pair of them, made me cry this one! Glad she got home safely.
What a lovely story of compassion all round. How we need it.
Sending my love to both of you, police, ambo and everyone who help. God Bless. ❤️❤️❤️

We live in a generation were marriage is taken for granted.. disregarding each other's respect, sexual interest in others, or simply as another comment put it "I'm no longer happy". But stories like this give us Insight. True love is possible but it takes two to put in the effort. It takes two. Not one.
Always hope for the worse and anticipate the best! Or the other way around.
❤️❤️❤️😢😢😢❤️❤️❤️
❤️
Woah
*whoa

kitchen gun
Can i have a kitchen gun? 😳👊
I thought the twist was she was visiting a secret lover...
Sadly we can't find this type of love anymore in the West.
People these days wake up with wrong emotions and just say: "I am no longer happy in this union, I need a divorce/separation"
Reality Check: Even in being alone, there are times when you will not be happy, so have a grip snowflakes generation
BS, there are cameras on every corner, traffic lights and public transport.
every liberals has this everyday no new news here folks 👋🏼🎤
looks like they will push to microchip them first then the rest of the sheeple.
Never forget the BBC has many fake name and accounts that continuously plague the comments with their anti-British drivel like this!
get her a leash
Get you a leash. And a muzzle
Tom G get you a profile pic
A leash?
David Massey dae you not know wit a leash is pal
She reminds me of joe biden.. he can't even see difference between his sister and wife
When the husband was asked how his marriage made it into the book of world records..he replied two words.."Yes Dear"
🥰😂
