Making Spiderman's Web-The Liquid Rope Experiment with Nylon 6,10

  • In this video I show you a cool experiment synthesizing a nylon polymer from two different liquids. Some have called this the nylon rope trick. I talk about spiderman's web and if it is possible for him to use this method to make his spiderwebs. I talk a little about the chemistry behind what is happening here. Then I find the inner Peter Parker in me and try to make my own spiderweb. I talk about nylon and why this cool phenomenon happens.

If you structured the web you made it would be 5x stronger!
This is because 5 points (the sticks). And 15 feet of web, divided by 5 is 3, so assuming the 5 points were in perfect shape and the web was weaved 3 times over inbetween each strand to the middle, it would make it able to withstand (if the original was 15 grams of force, it could with stand 75 grams. though, spidey’s webs have weaving in the rapid release shooting mechanism, so his much stronger polycarbonate webs ( let’s say 10 kg withstanding pressure by one) times by 2 would be 20kg, and with his web weaving shots with about 40 weaves between 20 points each would lead his webs to withstand roughly 200kg or pressure in a 10cm radius. This would mean that 10 meters between buildings with much more points and weaves would make his webs be able to hold over 500kg of pressure depending on the sections provided, so spidery could indeed hold a helicopter above ground, which makes the homecoming scene which he holds a boat together, not so farfetched

Okay... So, here's my Idea- if anyone sees this, that is. Titanium is a relatively light metal- and incredibly durable, and could be able to make two tanks on the back of the hero, or whatever they choose to use it for. One filled with Hexanediamine, and the other with Sebacoyl chloride. This would be a simple way to separate them. The tanks would connect to the two web shooters, and shoot out the web. Liquid would also come out however, and I can't be bothered to find a way to fix that.
    Thanks for reading

I have an idea, I'm not that knowledge about chemistry so this idea might seem far fetched but here we go:
    1. Find some way to concentrate the chemicals so you can have a much more potent amount in a smaller size.
    2. Some kind of Gas propellant alongside the compound to force the mixture out (and as it comes out of the nozzle it will react with each other to form the rope?) Perhaps two different chambers with a liquid in each for this effect? (Provided it isn't corrosive or leaks fumes.)
    3. if making a more concentrated liquid and it is harmful to touch, a third liquid to neutralise the PH scale of the mixture? (If possible, this seems like a must, provided it doesn't start breaking down the bonds of the new mixture.
Any comments are welcome and like I say, my chemistry knowledge is limited.

But I would see an iron man being more real than a spider man with tech in the future maybe not in our lifetime or maybe not in the next 200 years but that’s the closest superhero we could recreate. Oh and Batman lmao but who ever chooses to be him gotta be built different, no like literality 😂

I did that same experiment in my chemistry class way back in 1978! I thought it was the coolest thing too. We made a bit more nylon than Mr. Action Lab did thought. I remember the ball of nylon afterword was about the size of a racquetball. I remember one of the chemicals was used in photography for developing film I think (it's been a while). We didn't use gloves like he did either. It was a different time back then.

Well there’s a answer to how u can hold on to the tiny nylon rope I saw somewhere in some books about boats there’s a part in the boat that grabs on to a rope or something and the more pressure but on the rope the tighter that part would hold it so if u could make that in pocket size witch I’m sure u can attach the rope there and that device will hold ur body weight

What if you could somehow combine this with carbon nanotubes AND make it adhesive? When Spiderman shoots his webs, they seem to flower out at the top, meaning that in theory it is most likely more sticky as it spreads out. I think that the way that would happen it that as the web flies through the air, the friction separates the web and causes it to do the signature web like production at the end, causing the web to stick to surfaces. Or perhaps its like a bullet, when it hits a surface it compresses the metal outwards and makes it wider. Something tells me, in the near future, we will be seeing something like these.

Spiders make very long threads (relative to their body size) so somehow they are able to create large volumes of webbing without storing it in a 1:1 ratio. From my understanding scientists are still unsure how they do it but I’d bet it’s something similar to this just much more efficient.

3 cannisters, both of those in long cartridges along with a co2 tank with valves connected to end of the cartridges that are triggered to open when a button is pressed a 3 way tube that comes from the valves and opens up towards the end if the sleeve. Idea is when the chemicals mix the tube will direct and harden the mixture since when exposed to o2 it takes shape out of the tube and having a wide exit for spreadshot or narrow exit for durect shot, whichever you may choose. Enjoy.
