Hehe, ok, my suggestions. Is a favourite person leading the horse? Move the horse box to a different location, maybe inside the building, unless that's been tried already. So maybe a long way from the building. Maybe lay a trail of a favourite snack, such as alfalfa (lucerne) up the ramp and inside the box. Have the favourite person waiting inside the box, maybe with a bunch of alfalfa. Lead this horse's favourite horse up the ramp right in front of him. Cover the ramp with carpet? Trouble is, a horse can get used to all this favourite stuff, and may refuse anything else, they can be cheeky monkeys at times! But I love em all! 🥰

We had a donkey that did exactly the same….. we learned from a horsey person, to gently blindfold him , then lead him in backwards….it worked every time……. EQUINES !!!!

Nothing is ever the horse's fault, EVER! They are not naughty, vindictive, stubborn, or angry. Those are more evolved intellectual features of humans, not horses. Please stop anthropomorphizing animals. There is good reason horses avoid going in tight places; they are prey animals with only two defenses: first and foremost, running, instantly and fast; they can't do that in enclosed spaces, especially dark places. Second, reflex kicking. That's all they have since the beginning of time on the planet; it's deeply instinctive or else they would not still be here. If that horse can be trained to ignore the sounds and movements of crowds and other chaos, it can be taught to overcome loading. They simply did not properly train this horse for loading.
why a closed trailer ? I guess they have done this before with these warm bloods. my quarters would definitely balk at this. I haven't seen a trailer liike that up here in WNW Texas and trailers go by my house many times a day
I wonder if they tried leading another horse ahead of him. Also, sometimes it works by having a change of person leading them. It's as if they get into a mindset of 'no!' with someone and another person breaks that cycle.

Poor baby has probably not had much practice being loaded into a box and is just a bit nervous. He'll get used to it in time with reassurance and doing it more often. I wonder if a nice carrot would have been helpful encouragement? 🥕🐎🖤
This was hard to watch. This is NOT how you get a horse to load. First of all, the horse should have already been trained to load before they ever took it anywhere. And when they train it, they let it decide, give it time to explore, give it a reason to prefer the box to the struggle outside. You can't be in a hurry; that will only ratchet up the horse's stress levels making it that much harder to load. And if you make the experience really traumatic, the horse may never learn to load due to loading PTSD.

They might have a reason to keep the doors positioned like that, but it might help a tiny bit to have them more open; I'm sure they want to be able to close them quickly. I have to say I really don't like old school European ways of dealing with horses. There are much better ways if you want a reliable mount. Worse is Arabic, Spanish, and Latin American ways.
That or any of the other horse whisperers videos out there. Why watch videos, with their money they could get one to come and work with the horses and the guards personally. And when the whisperer left I think the horses would be much happier with the work asked of them. And we’d see far less videos of horses trying to say no.

What a Carry On! The mistake I saw was the soldier leading walks up to the box, then stops him at the bottom of the ramp. (why?), Likely the horse wondered too? The horse obeys the stop command so he is being responsive. Then the soldier pulls to get him going again and the horse resists. Why the pulling? Better to say walk on and invite the horse to follow. The horse as a basic skill, should be trained to follow his master. He shouldn't need wrangling and pulling. If he needs pulling pushing etc, I would suggest going back to basics until he understands what you require, and he is confident to follow wherever you lead, on account he knows you will keep him safe. I suspect in this situation, the horse decided he wasn't safe and his master couldn't/didn't make him feel safe and that needs fixing. Insecure horses are never going to be good, happy, safe reliable horses.

I see youngsters living their dream, playing at being horse-guards all dressed up and fancy. I wouldn't have a problem with such dreams being fulfilled, if it wasn't to the detriment of the horses. Also, as likely you know, the rider has to be seen as the master of his or her horse. As a prey animal, the horse looks to the rider to be protected. I see the Horse-guard riders as under the thumb of command, anxiously trying to do as they are told and passing on that worry to their horse. The horse is not their number one priority. I've even seen riders coming out of the stables clearly wound up and the horse then responding in kind. 'Oh dear, the naughty horsey is misbehaving, what a great rider clinging on' say the commenters. The soldier and horse might even have to go straight back to the stables because of the horse and not the riders angry Snit. Maybe that soldier is learning how to avoid duty? Maybe he is clueless? Horses pick up on your feelings so as master, you have to learn to master yourself first. The lead soldier as Master, (setting the horse up for success) brings the horse to the box and walks straight on. If there is waiting, then he does that away from the box where it's time to relax until it's their turn. You don't walk right up to the (Maybe Scary??) box ramp and then, stop, consider and then pull, and drag your horse forward because you think you are the boss. At the stop, your horse will see you are hesitant and lose confidence. Then with the pulling, it's kinda desperate? And horses respond badly to desperate. Trainers should teach the horse to follow (no pulling) as a basic, long before loading is ever considered. Having to use human muscle to wrangle the horse into submission is generally pointless on account the horse, (pony, donkey mule, you name it,) is going to out-pull their human if he chooses. Best to never let him test your actual puny human strength! Once the horse realises you are weak and he has to be the boss, you have failed him. It's way more stressful for him to have to look after his own welfare than having a proper master he can trust to keep him safe. I fear the whole command structure of the military acts to undermine riders instead of empowering them to be excellent horse people. I'd like to see the King as a keen Horse person, intent on seeing horses used in everyday life, be more cognisant of the need to be a shining example, not stuck in the past blindly clinging on to tradition and outmoded methods. There is plenty of good about the old ways but also plenty the folks years ago had yet to learn. I hope that explains my comment. I do think this is an important conversation to have.
Was this one of the horses damaged in the bolting incident in London - is that why he has a red bandage on his hind leg ? He may not want to leave his fellow patients or travel anywhere without a particular companion. His back looks sore when he tries to mount the ramp. At the very least he needs a lead horse companion for reassurance and they need to place his front hooves on the ramp, then let him stand for a while, give him a treat, if he relaxes then ask him to move another step forward while standing beside him not in front of him.
We once had a horse (called Ben) do this... We got him in by crossing lunge reins over and across his quarters and _hauled_ him into the trailer... (Eventually!!)

This is hysterical. these men rewarded this horse like 4 times in the first bit of this video for NOT loading. Then they continue to do so. They have enough manpower there to simply push him on. This horse knows he does not have to do what he is asked to do. Clearly we know the pecking order in his 'herd'. I guess it's a lot harder to deal with when the world is standing there watching.
Agree about the rewarding for not loading, but he doesn't need to be pushed on. He needs to think the trailer is better than outside. A trail of food leading in wouldn't be a bad start. Bigger clumps of food as he gets farther in.
