I was there for two days documenting for Island Records. May 3rd & 4th, 1998. Daniel, Emmylou and Willie were the best. The best 2 days ever. I was in awe of the experience and the creativity. So grateful to Daniel for letting me be there. Teatro Theatre was amazing and perfect for this record. Thank you.

The only celebrity I have ever wanted to meet is Willie Nelson. He seems to be someone who was totally unaffected by fame. He is a national treasure.

I met Dan a couple of times and watched him recording an album with Venetian Snares a few years ago, he’s an extremely warm and friendly guy, humble and down to earth. Hope our paths cross again some day. I used to work for Bono’s brother so we talked about Dublin and U2 mostly.

Every time I saw Willie playing a guitar phrase, or solo, I always imagine the musicians he's playing with living in a constant state of fear because he seems to be so far out on the edge of a giant pocket that is pure "Willie timing"

What amazes me about that record is that most of the songs on it were songs Willie wrote and probably forgot the next day he had ever written them. They are all fantastic. The sheer volume of great songs that Willie has written is mind boggling. The typical Nashville hack song writer would give his left nut to write one song as good as any of the songs on Teatro. Willie hundreds of songs that good.

Hearing this story makes me realize that I might own that wurlitzer. I bought a few pieces from him right out of that house in the mid 2000s when he was reducing his inventory. From what I understood it was a combination of stuff from his Oxnard and New Orleans equipment. Everyone compliments the sound and action of that wurly. Of course, I'm sure he had multiples.

Teatro is one of the best sounding records you will ever hear. The better the stereo system, the better it sounds. Some records sound worse the better the system. Teatro sounds better. It was recorded live and sounds a lot like the audiophile classic "Jazz at the Pawnshop". I think the recording sounds better than Jazz at the Pawnshop. As a bonus, they music is fantastic on Teatro, unlike Jazz at the Pawnshop, which is just Dixieland Jazz played by really white people.
