  • The last day of my Devon C2C and the last day of the trip.
    My hopes of a dry finish were washed away and I ended this day sitting on a nice warm train with my feet so wet I could feel the water squishing between my toes.
    I probably didn't smell very good either but fortunately the train was pretty quiet :)
    I really enjoyed this little adventure and I'm pleased to say that the next one is already lined up. I wont give away any details just yet but as always, there will be videos so watch this space.

    Fair play Jethro you have suffered along with the rest of us outdoors types with the wet Winter and Spring this year. Princetown is lovely in the sunshine but blimmin grim when its like that.

      It did all seem to drag on for a long time this year. I think it's got its act together at last though and I'm hopeful the next trip will be in sunshine!

  • @RoadyPacking-CyclingAdventures

    A very British ending Jethro, shame about the lack of views on the descent....but what we could see through your lense was proper touring vistas ;-) All the best

      I think it would have been spectacular on a clear day. This way it was still strangely beautiful and mysterious.
      I'm glad I'm not a pony though, they looked really unhappy about it all 😉

    Loving watching your adventures....you offer a very chilled approach to bike camping.
    I rode from Lands End to Herne Bay 10yrs ago for my 50th birthday...on a crappy pushbike with two paneers and a tent from argos...it was the same weather as you are having today...took 4 and a half days...soaked through but grinning like a cheshire cat.
    Been hooked since that day and have a better bike ..tent etc...still camping..my wife calls me forest gump on wheels😂..atb.

    • @JethroJessop
      @JethroJessop  Před 4 dny

      It was a great route. Even in the wet it was lovely though it was a pity not to get any views across the moors so I will certainly be back one day to explore a bit more.
      The interior of the moor looks to not have that many cycleable off road routes, but I assume there are ways that work?

  • @73megalith
    @73megalith Před 13 dny +1

    Unlucky the weather was grim, thats a nice route into plymouth from princetown and the close by froggintor quarry is fun to explore.
    Granite extracted from there was used for nelsons column in london. Worth stopping for a snack break and gander if you go by 🙂🤙

    When was this? i live jus up the road and it's been glorious sunshine almost the entire last 2 weeks. come back and do it again in the sunshine, it's a stunning ride. Princetown to Plymouth is a really fantastic ride when you can see the surrounds.

      This was a good month or so ago now. I'm not the fastest at editing so when I do these trips I always end up with a backlog. It helps keep me regular and to feed the algorithm though.
      I definitely felt like I was passing some beautiful views behind the grey but it was still a pretty good ride. I'll probably come back and explore the moor a bit... more, one day

    • @JethroJessop
      @JethroJessop  Před 12 dny +1

      If I did this same ride when the sun was shining I would have been sharing the trails with loads of other cyclists and walkers. Most people just seem to stay home when the weather is anything other than golden sunshine.
      Personally I don't mind a bit of rain and like you, I enjoy the solitude of it all

    Hi JJ. What rear rack & panniers are you using? Great video as usual :-)

    • @JethroJessop
      @JethroJessop  Před 10 dny

      The rack is a Topeak Explorer. They are pretty cheap and have done me really well. This is my second one but the first lasted 10 years.
      The panniers are Vaude but i dont remember the specific model. Around 12 or 15 liters i think. They are mostly held together with shoegoo and fishing line now but still do the job!

    What it should have been like if the weather was better - yep - back in 1992 or 93 I did an epic motorcycle trip (well I thought it was epic) from Blair Athol down to Whitchurch (I was actually trying to make Ledbury but ran out of time). Perfect weather, perfect trip, A9 down to Edinburgh, A702 through Biggar then get on the A74 (before it gained the '(M)' suffix), to Carlisle then A6 through Preston, Wigan and Warrington, then A49. Tried to recreate this route, or part of it anyway, recently 3 times, each time peeing down, gales, fog or low cloud. One time nearly got blown off The Shap, 50 mph wind!

    • @JethroJessop
      @JethroJessop  Před 13 dny +2

    • @JethroJessop
      @JethroJessop  Před 13 dny +1

      I didn't this time. I couldn't be arsed to go through my bags and find dry gear so I stayed damp with very wet feet on the train. Fortunately it was a quiet service so I didn't offend anyone 😉

    • @JethroJessop
      @JethroJessop  Před 12 dny +1

      I have a Gore one at the moment, I honestly cant remember exactly which one.
      Its good for sure but I've never found the perfect thing either and I think if you go with anything lightweight you are never going to keep out really persistent rain and if you really work hard you are always going to sweat yourself damp.
      I think the secret is to just find your peace with getting a bit moist and do what you can to stay warm. I have the rain shell that keeps the worst off and then I layer up merino stuff underneath to keep me warm if the water does start to get in.
