  • This book collects Joseph Smith’s uncanonized revelations, offering a new edition of these texts and update to past work. While most of the texts featured in this volume are accessible in The Joseph Smith Papers, both online and in print, average readers will probably find it difficult to sift through all twenty-seven volumes of the papers to locate these items. This book aims to remove that barrier to help facilitate access to these fascinating revelations.

I sure wish Joseph Smith the Prophet would be spoken about more often in conference and church. We only get book-ends. The first vision and martyrdom. I have a firm testimony of him. He IS THE Prophet of this last dispensation.

Thanks. BTW I may not be a scripture scholar, but I have a Masters Degree, and certainly do not consider myself "average."

Any explanations as to why they are not canonized if they are revelatory?

    • @BYUReligiousEducation

Many of the revelations were of a more personal nature for individual members of the church. As such they were not cannonized because they did not pertain to a large amount of people!

@BYUReligiousEducation besides being personal to people and not applicable to a wider body of people. There are other reasons as well. When you formerly canonize (vote to make it scripture) a revelation it makes all members bound doctrine wise to it where as before they weren't.
Also there is a horrendous amount of revelatory material we don't have. Example. It's been said out of 3 years (36 months, approx 1080 days) we only have 3 to 4 days of Christ's ministry in the revealed Canon. No doubt there were many more parables, miracles, and teachings, however we have enough to exercise our faith, live our lives as He would like us to. Then as we grow in faith, with no doubt He will reveal more. Same with other Prophets. President Nelson has daily revelations for the Church. We all have daily revelations to guide our lives if we are able to recognize them.
Look at Section 76. Joseph et all were in vision for over 3 hours (as I recall) and we have not that much in terms of written record but it is sufficient for what the Savior wanted written and sufficient for our needs.
For all those, including me, who are enamored with and look for the latest shiney penny (revelation) how diligently are we reading, studying and examining what we have already, Bible, B of M, D&C, P of GP?

@@BYUReligiousEducation 🤔 Makes sense. My patriarchal blessing is for me, not others. A blessing given to a regional congregation isn't necessarily supposed to include the world with different circumstances. 🙂

Why don't they share the nemenhah records? Why in 1967, the local native Americans approached the church with records only to have the church say they couldn't be translated. See also chief Midegah of the ojibwe nation and the birch bark scrolls (he's a descendant of joseph Smith). Why are there revelations not published??? Regards a concerned Australian latter-day saint.

Whose church is it? If He wants them translated, they will be.

Don't put too much credence in Chief Midegah. He refuses to show proof of anything of which he speaks. He needs to be humble and honest. If his heart was pure and he is telling the truth, he would gladly share what he has, but instead, he remains contentious and clearly has an axe to grind.
