He started last season on fire. I like the guy and I don't mind this contract at all.
No one should be upset with it. It’s ehh.If he hits 40 points next year then he’s probably a tad underpaid. If he hits 30 then he’s a bit overpaid. It’s not terrible
I’m hoping that he can prove he’s worth that contract
It’s a little high for valeno. But not exactly stressed about it. If he produces the same he’s about 500k too high.
he will have a break out year. some of you gave up on him. just stop it lego
I don't mind the signing. I think Veleno is a serviceable guy that can play both ways well. I felt like his complete game got stronger; he just needs to get a bit tougher and i think more offense will go his way this season.
I could see him playing W and potentially slot in on PK2, maybe a little PP2.
I think it's a very reasonable contract for both sides
I thought he’ll be $2.5M-$3M, so this is lower than what I thought he’d get.
Overpaid by a million but im good with it cus he signed for two years rather than one
I think this is a decent contract. He’ll definitely want to prove himself. I can see him taking on some more responsibility and I can also see him getting 40 points this season.
He's a natural center who improved last year. Had career year. I think, if he improves, we will wind up trading him. Also, he filed for arbitration. With his numbers, he could've gotten 3 million. Guys with numbers like him have gotten 3 million. Its a bridge deal.
Huge overpay. Glendending always made around a mil and this guy couldn’t lift LGD’s right nut
Could see a trade package here.
1. Hollands guy, not yzerman
2. 4th lines move around a lot. Unless you’re a fan favorite or killer Faceoff player.
3. Also have 4 goalies
I think this is an "eh" deal. He did show flashes last year of potential but he was also playing with guys that, well, aren't signed anywhere right now and fighting for their NHL lives. So he wasn't with "good" players, anything that happened on his shifts was mostly all because of him. Give him decent linemates and he could pop 18ish goals and 20+ assists for maybe a 35-40 point season. If that's the case, good deal. If he gets only like 20 points, then bad deal. Ultimately, time will tell.
What not good players? Lol
@@dynjarren5454 If memory serves, I think he mainly played with Fischer and Kostin, 2 guys with very little offense in their game
I think it’s a fair deal for 30 points with upside. I would really like to see him play with motte and mazer. I think if the line existed they would be known as absolute PESTS throughout the league.
Danielsen danielsen is not competing with jovoleno. He is competing for the second or third line center position.
And they may even start him as a second or third line winger. Casper.
Is probably in the same boat. Not competing with Joe Valeno. It will all work out.... Patience....Think long game, not short game.
Always leery of kids who put up huge points in the QMJHL. I’m not Canadian, Michigander here, but I recall the Q having a reputation for being soft and little focus on the defensive aspects of the game. Much easier to rack up points over the other junior leagues and especially NCAA.
If people are mad about a 4th line center making 2.35 million i dont know what to tell you lol. It's a touch high, but he brings more than points to the team if you're familiar with Red Wings hockey. Every league hes been in, his trajectory is slow but always UP.
SY has kept him on ‘prove it’ contracts a long time. I think he should have got a 4 yr/$8MM contract. Stevie could have traded him away if he needed to and a $2MM a yr. contract is nothing these days! Joe will get 30-35 points on a fourth line - keep him!
Too much for a guy that can’t finish. He is young and has speed, but, no signs that he can improve to the contract he just got.
Too much for this 4th line center. He isn't bottom 6, he is 4 th line.
The more we pay, the more difficult it will be to trade Veleno.
So this pretty much confirms, Nate and Kasper are going back to the AHL again, for ah guy that would barley crack the 2nd line postion on the Sharks
Kasper will make the team out of camp. Nate will not.
@@jamesbond1586 where are we slotting Kasper?
@@krimsonshadow94 3C
@@willsmithmachine5244 ok, well what about Veleno, Copp and JT plus were carrying 3 goalies and Holls probably riding the bench again
@@krimsonshadow94 Copp can play on the wing.
When Zadina went to san jose, he gave Detroit 4.65 million dollars back.... sooo, what does Mr. Yzerman do with it??.....
The big thing that makes this frustrating is that we are letting go of Sprong, Fabbri, and Walman already and they're all far better than Veleno
No
All 3 of those players you listed are defensive liabilities
We lacked defense more than goaltending last year. Could not always close games. 3 players you mentioned showed they’re not 2 way players or 1 dimensional.
Now offensive wise yes spring and fabbri are better than Veleno. However face off, speed, forechecking, PK, that’s where I think Veleno was fighting for that extra $1m.
He’s improved each year and stays healthy. I think that’s the other $1m he earned.
If he gives us 50 points then next 2 years and stays healthy I’m ok with it
Fabbri is more expensive and never healthy. Spring doesn’t know what his defensive zone looks like. And Walman is so incredibly overrated. His defensive stats without Seider were bad. Not sure why everyone is so upset that Walman is gone.
@@wingnut69 Fabbri is nothing close to a defensive liability lmao. Walman's stats also are decent defensively. Random assholes online will come up with nonsense and then people will believe it because the mob repeats it. Same reason why no one is critical of Rasmussen who is a clear bust but Mickey likes how large he is so he gets a pass smh. Joe Veleno had 12 goals and 16 assists and he was playing on the line with Kane and Debrincat for a period. He is not worth a 4th liner's paycheck. Fabbri and Walman were certainly worth their pay and Sprong was worth more than he got. Randos pump out these fabricated stats with no explanation and people just think they're implicitly correct smh
more disappointed in the debrincat contract he aint worth that lol
😂😂😂😂😂
And you’re not very smart
What is with Yzermans upsession with mid
“Upsession”
Seems like the red wings twitter account hasn’t reported this signing? Fingers crossed he gets traded in a part of deal incoming.
People are so bad at math. 80+ point players get paid 8+ million. 60+ point players get paid 6+ million. 40+ point players get paid 4+ million. Veleno scored 28 points and has the potential to score 30 points or maybe even low 30's (possibly). 2.275 million is quite reasonable from a team perspective. The player is 6 foot 1 and 200 pounds and is a young veteran player with plenty of games under his belt. Is he a superstar? No. Is he a bit of a letdown? Yes. I like the guy and wish he would show more improvement. His main defect is his poor plus/minus score. If he turns that number positive while scoring 28+ points, then he will become a bargain player. Time will tell. Guaranteed that if he doesn't continue improvement steadily Yzerman will trade him because his age clock is ticking. Also, he filed for salary arbitration. Yzerman HATES that.
Agree with your math, now what about Exceptional status given, where does he fall in that category?
What about Copp making 5.6 and getting 33 points haha the copp contract is so bad it makes people naturally skeptical
@@LionsFever I agree with you 100% on Copp.
@@tsifty1 I don't really care about exceptional status until it is proven at the NHL level. QMJHL players score like mad at that level and it doesn't always translate to the NHL, such as Filip Zadina.
@@LionsFever My math is just a generalization that I've used for the past 15 years or so to estimate a general range that players salaries tend to fall a majority of the time. I'm not say it's an end all formula. Just a tool for estimation. But Copp's is flat out a bad contract which would be unmovable. If he scored 50 to 60 points it would be a fair one.
He's a 3rd liner at best. His development and progress have been very incrementally slow. Having said that, two years is about what I expected.
The plan is to over pay for possible good players while all the actual good players go and get 5-6 year contracts somewhere else . Yzerman can do no wrong so have fun paying for your over priced tickets to see a 5th place team. At least get the good games when a contending team comes to town.
It’s a fine contract
For him, yes.
good deal
It’s high…maybe 2mil tops..very replaceable
He is invisible out there. Invisible!! I'll take him over zadina tho. But we need guys that are going to push push push and Excell. I don't see veleno excelling very much. He is definition of meh
I think Yzerman should shitcan Newsy and get Joel Quenneville to coach the Wings. He might come to Detroit with Kane and Debincat there.
Id have taken keefe
@@Bulltrapaskslapno way. We don’t want anything that has to do with Toronto. Keefe either couldn’t or wouldn’t hold those superstar divas accountable.
@chevelle1 he had no goalie or defense bro lol.
Now trade him because he is not part of the core going forward.
over paying mid players, it's the yzerman way 😂
Joe Veleno should be put on waivers. He did practically nothing for the Wings last year. And he's certainly not worth anything close to what they're giving him. I don't think Veleno would be an impact, even if he was sent down to the GR Griffins. Too bad the Wings couldn't have put him on waivers...... There are a lot better players than Veleno, even in the minors..... Veleno is not pro hockey material......
He's looking to have a breakout year.
I’m seeing a lot of yzerman slander
They got him really cheap last season. It averages out!
Too much money for a 4th line player.
Definitely an over pay for a bottom line center. He stinks production wise.
The yzerplan is not working so far beside Kane
Who’s care
He’s listed 6’1 (which probably means he’s 5’11-5’11.5inches) 205lbs, yet looks like he gets knocked around and knocked off the puck too much. If he can get a little tougher, he can probably realize more of his potential. Maybe a poor man’s Darren Helm.
Where are you disregard my stupid Voice tax on this piece of crap phone....
Joke
He stinks
Joe, wasn’t this kid an exceptional status in Quebec? Goes to show, this status definition in Quebec is a JOKE. Velano is a 4th liner with max possibly a 3rd liner.
