    All GW need to do is launch the dropper bottles as a “pro” line and repackage their air paints line. GW are pretty committed to pots since it’s pretty beginner friendly but if they added a line for seasoned painters then they can dip their toes in both markets and not tank the value of their pots.

    I've got old hex bottles from citadel that are still all good, and honestly I've done very little to take care of them, I put a couple of small screws in them to act as agitataors and when some of them got a bit thick I added a couple of drops of water then held them onto my back massager (don't waste money on a paint shaker, get a back massager, it does the same job but can also sort ya back out after a hard days painting) .

    The pale grey shade is one I'm looking for, as the primary colour of two of my armies is white and I've always struggled with shading white without it looking garbage.

    About 10 years ago I had a dropper bottle of Vallejo plastic putty, the top clogged because I left it open for too long.
    Trying to unclog it, instead of doing the smart thing and poking a pin in, I thought “if I push the hard bit back in, then it’ll have lumps!”
    So I squeezed it as hard as I could like the little dingus that I was.

  • @UntiltedName
    @UntiltedName Před 2 lety +2

    Contrasts (on top of scale75 layers) have been my workhorse paint since they launched. I made a handful of my own blends with them to suit some needs. There are several new ones that I'm hyped to use. Most paint lines have a ton of representation with blues and greens tho, so that's nothing new. Orange and yellow don't have as much of a range to play in because they'll start being perceived as brown when you get dark.
    Personally I like the more pale contrast colors because when contrast paints get too opaque, it becomes easier to just use a normal paint to achieve similar results and you never risk pigment pooling in unwanted areas.
    THough, like when those paints first launched, the marketing was a bit overbaked. There's a sweet spot with marketing because you do need to generate interest and hype up the product. Blow too much smoke and it makes you seem suspicious. With this product there's nothing to be suspicious about (except maybe the new wash formula, of which I'm sure they won't ever elaborate on so it may as well be meaningless buzzwords) because contrast paints are now a staple product.

    Dropfleet is super fun and does some really unique things for wargaming, specifically the variable range based on your heat/signature (doing cool stuff adds heat which increases the range of enemy weapons) plus capturing sectors - shepherding dropships to a location and securing the space above them is huge and feels way different from dudes-on the-ground and other space games (armada, halo fleet battles, firestorm armada, bfg, etc)

    I think the reason for the ARC/Clone distribution is because Battle Forces introduce new rules to list building to be more thematic. In this example, you would normally need a minimum of 3 Core Clone Trooper units in a list, but with the 501st BF you can forgo one of them to make room for an extra squad of Special Forces (the ARCs). I also agree that including the Core set commanders was dumb, and they should have at least provided alternate sculpts for them.

  • @CL0NK_
    @CL0NK_ Před 2 lety +2

    I think the big thing that might have been missed around the mid tone colours is the coverage, contrasts are typically difficult to get good coverage over a flat surface and the models they showed barely look painted, it almost looks like the plastic is coloured rather than painted. If that's something that is easy to do with these new colours I think it'll be big

    • @ludovic7577
      @ludovic7577 Před 2 lety +1

      Yes, these are actually (somewhat of a contradiction in terms) 'flat' contrast paints. From what I understand they're supposed to have a formulation which reduces the amount of uneven, patchy coverage that current contrast paints have on flat surfaces like space marine armor and vehicle panels.

  • @DragonuFear
    @DragonuFear Před 2 lety

    Oh my gooood he got a dropfleet commander model.
    You can find more info on the community discord, but the basic gist is you are trying to deploy troops onto cities or space stations over a planetary body, with the game focusing on defending and deploying your troops hips effectively while destroying and disrupting the enemy attempts to do the same. Range is infinite as projectiles aren't slowed down in a vacuum (except shooting into atmosphere which requires special weapons)
    Range is limited by the sensors of the firing ship plus any ongoing effects increasing the detectability of the target, be it scanning for the enemy, the enemy going weapons free, or performing more advanced movement. It's super interesting, but due to a tiny community its best to get into it with a friend.

    Dropfleet was written by Andy Chambers, who also created Battlefleet Gothic.

  • @JMcMillen

    As far as Star Wars Legion goes, it looks like if you buy one of these starter sets and the Star Wars Legion: Essentials Kit, you'll have pretty much everything you need to play (dice, tokens, cards, etc....). While that may cost a little more than just buying a starter set, you get way more for the faction you want to play and is probably a better deal for someone entering the game who already has access to other players who already have their own forces and probably don't need more stuff from a starter box.
    Now if you want a real Legion painting challenge, you've got to get Sabine Wren. Her armor not only has a colorful paint job, it changed several times through the series (Star Wars: Rebels). And she can be joined by the members of Clan Wren to give your rebels some Mandalorian assistance.

    HOLY CRAP... Dropfleet and Dropzone on a semi-famous channel. Listen my friend... the -dream- of the Dropfleet/Dropzone game is that it is preset to play as linked games. Both games are amazing and very objective focused, and there are rules for linked games in a flow chart type campaign. The space ship game scratches that BFG itch, and BOTH games are alternating activation games. The DropNOUN Commander games are extremely good, and I would recommend the starter sets for either. They are cheap, easy to paint up, and give you a very good feeling of generally how the game plays. Lastly... it uses terrain of a similar scale to Battletech and Titanicus... so you have an excuse to collect some 10mm terrain. :D

    Their hex paints are still good, I was able to recover one with a tiny bit of medium. I had to replace a lot of my Citadel paints from the more modern pots though, and not just because I knocked over one or two. They just dry too quickly and the lids are very insufficient to keep them in a good condition. I have over a hundred paint vials/bottles/pods, and I find the other containers maintain color and consistency way better. I mostly use Army Painter and Vallejo these days. Citadel pigment has improved, but I still find the pigments from other companies more pleasing to the eye if I can notice any difference at all. I've had to toss out several Citadel paints after a year or two of not using it, probably lost more money in paint from them than I actually used.
    note: I live in a desert. It's dry and hot here, or dry and freezing. No real in between.

    In general, I agree that the pots are fine. A little care to make sure they are sealed well when closed and that paint isn't glopped in the rim and the paint stays good. I have never had a pot of paint go bad on me. However, I do think that GW Air paints should be in droppers. Moving a drop of paint to your palette is one thing but transferring a bunch to your airbrush is another. I guess that's why I don't use their air paints in my airbrush and stick to air primers and inks.

Also I wonder how much GW consider paints to suit other model ranges such as star wars legion when deciding new colours.

    Why d8 and not d10 ? d10 is easier to convert to %, 4+ result over a d6 and it's still manageable to use many of them at same time.

    I'm not sure this is the paint reveal the trailer was for, the trailer says July. It could be but that'd be a weird thing to put in it only to release a day or so after.

    Get rid of those gosh darn pots and price them equivalent to Vallejo and other paints and they'd be great. It still amazes me that they get away with giving you less paint per oz. AND selling them in those awful containers. I haven't had them dry up on me, I just hate the lids and how easy they are to spill with a passion. I nevertheless STILL bought a few to supplement the Vallejo I have. Love Leadbelcher and Nuln oil.

    so the battleforces are actually new rules that change what you can take into the game so the droids gain 8 core units compared to the none battleforce army

    I just have no idea when I’d ever play Legion. I sold all my stuff because I was an original buy in player but didn’t play for over a year and I don’t have the time for all the game systems.
    That, and I don’t trust AMG to not ruin it like they ruined xwing.
