8:20 the reason why everyone is driving infront of you and rushing ahead is simple: People driving vans in Norway is not a new thing, there are tons of ''van'' tourism in Norway, and everyone hates driving behind vans or trailers, or anything ''slow or large'' on long stretches, because they ''clog'' up the traffic, and are most likely causing many potential or actual dangerous situation in the traffic, not the van or heavy vehicle in itself, but how people might do reckless drive-by's to get ahead of it in traffic if the person behind the wheel is impatient. So the fact that you ''stood there'' on the end at the ferry was most likely a ''sign'' to the other drivers that you wanted to be a good guy and ''let them go ahead'', so that is why they rushed, since you are driving a van and they thought you were giving them the go-ahead.
I certainly think it was because they feared I would hold them up. We do drive slower than most traffic. I try my best to let people pass as I know what can happen when you don’t 👍
Bergen ist stunning. Unfortunately the weather was bad when I visited (still gorgeous though), otherwise I would have taken the funicular. Great vlog 😊
Although you were lucky with the weather, I just want to add that the driest month of the year in Bergen (and probably most of the West coast) is June, with July not far behind. My advice is always to come in June. No guarantees, but it maximizes your chances of good weather.
Norwegian and English tastes are probably different, but I see that you buy food that most Norwegians do not buy....don't judge us by the food you have bought...:)
I don’t judge anyone I leave that to the courts 😁👍. We have not much clue about what we are buying in Norway as it’s quite different. We even managed to compare gluten free prices with UK non gluten free without realising. 😁👍
@@janelem3448 As a Norwegian I agree. I haven't seen anything that isn't bought yet. Except maybe the smultringer, most buy those fresh made I guess. And the canned stuff like sodd is usually reserved for cabin life etc.
@@janelem3448 There are quite a few tourists in Norway...:) Bread is good in Norway, but it costs quite a lot. Canning is not something ordinary people use, but have a few cans at the cabin. When at a ferry, the ferrydirector guy in the highvis tells you when it's your turn to drive. You were in a lane with no direct out, you were supposed to wait till the others had driven off and for the ferry guy to give you the signal. Trust me, I've taken the ferry countless times as I lived right nearby for years and have relatives all around those areas. Commenting without having seen the rest of the video, but in case you guys don't address it, you're taking a detour taking that ferry. If you had continued driving on the main road another 15-20 minutes, you'd have reached another ferry, taking you closer to Bergen. That's the main route
I was waiting to be told to go. The vehicles that overtook me were in the same lane as me. They were not waiting for anyone. We were sightseeing so the direct route is not always the best option for us.

No they certainly want you to pay for things but actually being able to do that is a challenge at times. We expected to pay a conductor but there wasn’t one.
@@LifeistooshortCK There's never a conductor in Norwegian public transportation anymore. Just ticket inspectors at random times. In my city I just use a phone app 99% if the time. People who use public transportation often tends to get a card, paying for 6 months or a year up front then they use that for unlimited traveling within the zones paid for. Then your ticket is inspired at random times. Sometimes it's a year between inspections. Sometimes it's several times a week. God Tur, I see you took the funicular Fløibanenm shame it was so crowded for you, Bergen old town by the harbour is so good too with plenty of shops, even better in the harbour when it gets filled with the old tall ships of years gone past
You often see small towns without people. The reason is probably that in the places you are in Western Norway, everyone works during the day. Even school youth after school - because that part of Norway lacks labour
The first 5 minutes made me decide that the fish fingers butties was gonna be today's lunch😋 the doughnut 🍩 needed raspberry jam & plenty sugar 😋 Got to say the driver of the blue pick up was, taking no prisoners..bloody hell they were driving off that ferry like it was sinking 😳..really enjoying the Norway 🇳🇴 vlogs and my tin of Cadbury roses are a bonus while viewing 😂 excellent as always you two & the little Red camper 😊💯👌
They aren't actually doughnuts - Smultringer is a sort of christmas cake without yeast. They're baked with cardamum and salt of hartshorn and with sour milk instead of normal milk. It's an old traditional cake here in Norway that tastes best fresh and warm. You can find regular (american) doughnuts in any shop that sells fresh bread though, and also "Berlinerboller" which is a donut bun filled with raspberry jam and coated in sugar.
Hi, I was wondering when you use your drone abroad is there a website you check to see that it is safe to do so? Your Norway adventures vlogs are great and a good reference for my planned trip next year. Cheers Shaun.
There is a good website for drone zones in Norway but I couldn’t find an app. The web was not good on a phone consequently I flew a lot less than I normally would. The EU rules are tougher than the UK.
Just a thank you for your videos. I really enjoy trips with you two. I'd love to tour Norway via van for a couple of months. Should i try to ship my van from the U.S...? That is the question!
6:25: A lot of GPS programs show the detour taken here as the shortest route to Bergen. Unless you are deliberately taking the off beat path, the best option is to follow the main road.
All of the roads we drive were deliberate choices as we were using Pocket Earth app to navigate. We wanted to experience the back roads but did use the main routes if the weather got bad 👍
Heeey, it's my city! The tram tickets do seem to have some trouble with foreign payments, I've experienced. Once encountered a couple of Chinese tourists who were struggling. In the end I just bought them each a ticket and then they shoved ten Euro into my hand and rushed off to the tram. Been years but the note's still in my wallet unexchanged; honestly I have no idea where to go to get that done and I'm too lazy to look it up, ha ha.
I figure they race off the ferry so they don't get stuck behind big trucks that can't keep up with traffic and possibly not even make the speed limit during slight inclines!
Re Ferry discipline. Yes, normally people leave the ferry by following the one ahead but if you dawdle then the locals will jump you. Why did you go go via Våge?
We used to live on Huglo and the number of international truckers who tried to go the back route to Bergen was insane as they were following an app (vehicles were 17 metres long) that told them that Våge route was cheaper.
I agree their diet is not healthy but who cares! They are on holiday in a van so probably go for ease of cooking, storing and price plus sheer enjoyment 🎉
Had to follow a ferry and had that happen to the car I was passenger in let just say normaly the ticket/traffic director is to stay infront and direct, when it happend to us the guy directing stoped the cars from leveing and had them be the last onse out. For safty reson you should never do what this did as it cause collition
Yes, when there is a risk of condensation we put bubble wrap in the back and side windows, leaving the windscreen and cab windows covered in just the blackout curtain so they attract the moisture and are easier to clear. We didn’t take the bubble wrap to Norway in September.
Hej you two, nice weather couple of days! You are using the Google Earth maps, I trie to figure out what those 3 words mean that so frequently appear in the bottom of the screen, I belief you said something about it.

Don't quite understand why you chose to drive through Tysnes island on your way to Bergen. Was it for the scenery? As it is not the most direct and fastest road to reach Bergen.
Dont understand why foreign tourist want to eat Italian food (restaurant) when visiting Norway. Why not go to a local cafe or restaurant serving Norwegian food?
EH, don't ever buy things at the fish market. As a person from Bergen they have artificial high prices there, and that's something I notice with cafes and Norwegian foods. I Would rate enjoy a cheaper pizza where u accualy can get a full belly without going bankrupt. I love camper videos. Keep up the good work!
I have seen footage from others flying there but I didn’t want to risk it. I couldn’t find a good drone app for Norway. They have a good website but it was no good on just a mobile phone.
We love your videos, Carol and Ken, but dipping a doughnut in sugar? Really? You are heading towards diabetes if you don't change your so very high carbon diet!

For anyone looking for a place to put up for the night, if you don't find anything on Park4night, ask locals! We are often reserved but go out of our way to help.
Good to know 👍
I’m in the process of trying to talk my wife around into purchasing a camper van. We’re selling up our place in Spain and that will fund the van. We have a biggish dog we want to take with us. Here’s hoping.
Good luck. Make sure you get a bigger van than ours with that dog 😁👍
My son in law accidentally zapped himself with the same fly swat and got a powerful shock, he felt it down his arm , chest and into heart 😱 . It didn’t turn off after being used so was faulty
Something to watch out for! Hope your son in law is OK 🙂
As soon as we seen the peroni we both said “ooooo” then you mentioned us 😂😂
Sarah’s favourite is carbonara too.
Impeccable taste you two 👌🏼
😁👍
I heard about using rocks as ramps do you can get away in an emergency - great if there are rocks I guess lol😂
Bergen looked a great laid back place
Enjoyed this one guys especially the racing off the ferry 😂
Thanks for watching. We were shocked at the driving off the ferry. Don’t know if that is normal behaviour or they just wanted to get past us quickly because we were foreigners 😆
@@LifeistooshortCK scene from the gold rush
@@LifeistooshortCK It's normal that one lane finishes before the next lane starts getting off :) Not sure if they were behind you in the same lane or not, maybe they were in a hurry or just lacked manners. On behalf of Norwegians I apologise.
@@peacefulminimalist2028 they were in the same lane behind us which is why we were shocked when they overtook us before we were even off the ferry. They must have spotted our UK sticker 😆
I kept thinking I bet those donuts would be good dunked in hot chocolate 😊
🍩😋👍
7:03
Thank you, I appreciate that.
Can't beat a fish finger bun for brunch
Great trip 😁
Lovely! Fantastic carriage with a view through the roof. Norway doesn't seem to want you to pay for anything, unlike here where machines take your money and offer nothing.
What do you mean?
They got inspectors hired all year, but they'll take random routes each time and there's no way of knowing when they'll inspect *your* line.
@@LifeistooshortCK I travel a lot and Revoult never let me down. It’s free so you could give it a try. Love your videos x
Thanks 👍
You shouldn't have bleeped it ,it would have been hilarious to hear you rightfully curse just the once 😁 happy new year guys
Happy New Year 🥳 😁
That was scary coming off that ferry.
We live a ferry ride away from Seattle. Can’t even imagine a free for all when the ramp goes down.
First time for us
Ken you make me laugh ,,,,,,my hubby reminds me of your donuts dry and as plain as an old boot , but I bought the whole package just the way Carol did and no regrets hahahahahaha!! Cherryl from Canada
They grew on me 😁👍
@@LifeistooshortCK that's funny because so did my hubby grow on me , and after 44 wonderful years married I know I made the right choice !! Happy New Years and safe travels to you and Carol Cherryl from Canada
hey can you move the rocks left by the other people there last night lol. Sorry for the bad joke lol
I would have sliced the dry donuts and spread with some lovely apricot or raspberry jam 😋
That would work 😁👍
God Tur, I see you took the funicular Fløibanenm shame it was so crowded for you, Bergen old town by the harbour is so good too with plenty of shops, even better in the harbour when it gets filled with the old tall ships of years gone past
That must be an amazing sight to see all the tall ships 🙂👍
You often see small towns without people. The reason is probably that in the places you are in Western Norway, everyone works during the day. Even school youth after school - because that part of Norway lacks labour
It’s nice to see. In the UK everywhere is busy.
You are right about the doughnuts. Are the Cadbury Roses not finished yet? You’re slacking 😆👍
@@LifeistooshortCK I'm down to the last 8..there's plenty of empty wrappers i have to keep sifting through 😂😋
They aren't actually doughnuts - Smultringer is a sort of christmas cake without yeast.
@@peacefulminimalist2028 ah I see..
@@LifeistooshortCK Thanks for that, I will just take the sensible approach also.
22:02 the Island on the other side of the fjord is where I live!
Lovely spot 👍
Just a thank you for your videos. I really enjoy trips with you two. I'd love to tour Norway via van for a couple of months. Should i try to ship my van from the U.S...? That is the question!
Not worth the grief. Hire one. 👍
I've been leaning in that direction. Thanks! :-)
Direct route is boring as all heck (except the ferry) though.
Well done for helping them out 👍
Come visit something south, you're more than welcome. Except perhaps in the Netherlands, most will actually prefer cash over card.
❤❤👌👌👍👍Lived there for 3 years. It is better than Oslo. Bread, butter and yam or ham, cheese....
It’s a beautiful place 👍
I figure they race off the ferry so they don't get stuck behind big trucks that can't keep up with traffic and possibly not even make the speed limit during slight inclines!
And campervans sightseeing 😁👍
Nice to travel with you..I’ve been to Sweden ,but not quite so keen on Norway..but none the less, interesting, .Thanks carol n Ken.. 22:34
Im born and raised in sweden , Norway are 100% more beautiful then here
We enjoyed it but we have not visited Sweden yet 👍
Re Ferry discipline. Yes, normally people leave the ferry by following the one ahead but if you dawdle then the locals will jump you. Why did you go go via Våge?
We wanted to get off the main route and have a more leisurely, scenic drive.
It was a good job we hadn’t started moving without looking 👀 ☺️
Are you still using bubble wrap on the windows?
Yes, when there is a risk of condensation we put bubble wrap in the back and side windows, leaving the windscreen and cab windows covered in just the blackout curtain so they attract the moisture and are easier to clear. We didn’t take the bubble wrap to Norway in September.
Hej you two, nice weather couple of days! You are using the Google Earth maps, I trie to figure out what those 3 words mean that so frequently appear in the bottom of the screen, I belief you said something about it.
Google ‘what 3 words’ 👍
The "doughnuts" u had are better if u heat them up a bit. And they are not really doughnuts tho they are made a bit different
Agreed👍
No matter where you go it's always nice to come back home again.. There's no place like home. A nice Malibu and pineapple would go down a treat.I wont eat lobsters because of the horrendous way they are cooked. XX ❤️💙
Don't quite understand why you chose to drive through Tysnes island on your way to Bergen. Was it for the scenery? As it is not the most direct and fastest road to reach Bergen.
Scenery 👍
A holiday trip is not about driving the shortest and fastest route. It's not a work trip.
i see your enjoying norway but when it comes too food you should slapsh out a bit more for our better goods. Take it from a local
Do spiders have suckers....?
They do if they are Special Forces 😁👍
Dont understand why foreign tourist want to eat Italian food (restaurant) when visiting Norway. Why not go to a local cafe or restaurant serving Norwegian food?
Because variety is good? Sometimes you want italian food, or something else that's not the local food.
@@Nemrai Nahh, seems like you are eating pasta and tomato sauce in every episode. It is not criticism, just wonder.....
We just eat what we fancy at the time regardless of where we might be 👍
EH, don't ever buy things at the fish market. As a person from Bergen they have artificial high prices there, and that's something I notice with cafes and Norwegian foods. I Would rate enjoy a cheaper pizza where u accualy can get a full belly without going bankrupt.
I love camper videos. Keep up the good work!

16:30 99% of people who lives in Bergen use an app to pay for the buss/light-rail/boats
We should have gone that route 👍
Good spot if drones were allowed.
I have seen footage from others flying there but I didn’t want to risk it. I couldn’t find a good drone app for Norway. They have a good website but it was no good on just a mobile phone.
We're a bit edgy about drones now after a couple of russians has been arrested recently.
Don’t blame you👍
We love your videos, Carol and Ken, but dipping a doughnut in sugar? Really? You are heading towards diabetes if you don't change your so very high carbon diet!
Well my diet is like a roller coaster. I can be good and bad and it all depends on how I feel.
Hi there- brilliant video from you guys once again- we are loving your Norway trip. The sticky under the trees could be ‘honeydew’ which is excreted by aphids in the tress above. As it was quite localised and they looked like lime trees this could be the culprit- aphid poop 🌳🦟
Never heard of that before! Carol will want new boots 😅
