My grandson Sam and I went to NAPA in Rogue River to get something and Susan was sitting outside on the sidewalk with the hood up on her car. I asked her what was wrong and she said she needed a ride. I wasn’t working at the time so I said jump in. We drove out to the place you see on TV and she showed me her operation. She built driveway gates. Showed me the whole process and I must say she made some beautiful gates so much so I took her business card with the intent of getting a custom build one day. Sam explored the inside of that rickety barn until we left.
Some years later my wife called me at work to tell me the news. Crazy, that’s all I can say.

Wisconsinite here; rural Oregon is fucking gorgeous. I've been there many times, as well as southern Washington and northern California. One of the most beautiful places I have ever seen is about an hour north of Portland, OR and Vancouver, WA (Two cities that almost kind of blend together). Also most everyone out there is super friendly.
I'm from Milwaukee. We have our famous killers, too. (Jeffery Dahmer). Most violent city in the US. Nobody talks about the Old Fitzsimmons road and the drag races in the 70's when the finish line was a fucking cliff straight into Lake Michigan, or the old farmer who went crazy and murdered his entire family with an axe right there, or the fact that domestic corn still grows in the area even though it can't propagate itself without human assistance.
But it is still a very lovely city with a lot of cool stuff, and you are really never in any danger, except on rare occasions.
Oregon is MUCH nicer.
The Oregon coast is so beautiful it's unreal. I would avoid Portland and Eugene, and also don't answer to any help wanted ads.

Sometimes, when people are depressed, frightened, confused or poossibly mentally ill they don't react to threats in their environment the way a normal, reasonalby well functioning person will. Obviously if you or I experienced some of that, we would take several courses of action including hightailing it out of there. People in very abusive environments though can beahve in ways that can seem very frustrating to people watching from the outside - they can be in very obvious danger, and to everyone else it looks like there's nothing in the way of them freely leaving. They stay there though. Often some fear, state of mind or obstacle we can't see is making it very difficult to leave. One I encounter ocassionally is a very, very tragic, simple fear. The abuse has ground them down to such a low state that even though they are terrified of their abuser, they think they themselves are so weak and lowly that they must rely on their abuser to survive - that if they left, there's no-one out there who would want to care for them and protect them and they would never make it on their own. Obviously, I don't know if that's the case here.

The government failed the community and its soldier. The Vietnam Vets were sorely neglected and abandoned. You can’t train someone to kill, put them in an environment (war) to do it, and release them to the public as if everything’s fine. 🙄 This is the government’s fault. The victims families should sue the Federal government for releasing their trained weapon of warfare on their community.
