    Trying to explain the layout of the apartment/bedroom would have been the perfect moment for a Charlotte graphic! Lol - did not realize just how cramped the filming conditions were.

    Omg, YES! Early pandemic would've been Mrs. B's time to shine! And she'd feel so vindicated that she'd been right to panic from the very start of late 2019 when it took over the world in 2020. I can almost see Lizzie trying to hide behind Darcy and Jane trying to smooth things over with everyone. It's so wonderful to see Julia Cho again! Hope she'll be back for plenty more episodes

    I'm loving the commentary insight on these videos! And it's remarkable how many of my own memories are coming back in ways I don't experience just re-watching the series.
    On episode 1, everyone was talking in the comments (rightly so) about the amazing work done adapting Lydia's character in the latter part of the series, but what I remember distinctly loving about the earlier episodes was how central the Lizzie/Charlotte friendship was, and how much that raised the stakes for their disagreement later on.
    Charlotte can end up feeling like a bit of a side character in other adaptations, mostly there for Lizzie to bounce off of during the Collins portion of the story, but the two of you built a palpable, beautiful friendship on screen that felt like one of the central pillars of the series throughout.

    Oh my god - so I watched LBD from the moment Hank talked about it and have only just realised I have that same dress as Lizzie, which I still wear today - H&M button down shirt dress, elasticated waist, silky blue lining, a pocket over each boob. 10 years! I should probably buy some new clothes.

    I just this past week pulled out my DVD set and did a complete rewatch (and kudos to the hard work that went into those, including putting, in order, the Domino and Lydia videos for a more complete story). And it reminded me that Julia Cho is the best Charlotte ever. Charlotte is (next to Lizzie) my favorite P&P character, and never more so than in her LBD incarnation. It is such a treat to listen to Ashley and Julia reminisce, especially the little behind-the-scenes nuggets.

    I'M SO GLAD TO SEE JULIA!! My love for the book led me to this series but still in the books I never really understood Charlotte's perspectives but with modern contexts and giving more time to the character, Julia's Charlotte will always always have a special place in my heart because that was when I finally understood her 💜

  • @becspresso
    @becspresso Před 2 lety +17

    Wow, it was an apartment and not a set? So weird that the living room had a door I can't wait to learn where Netherfield and Pemberly were filmed.
    All the flaws you mention (due to lack of monitor) I didn't notice. I love behind the scenes things like this, telling details I'd never otherwise know or notice.

    • @whydoineedanameiwillneverp7790
      @whydoineedanameiwillneverp7790 Před 2 lety +3

      Netherfield, IIRC, was the same room - they just painted a wall and turned the camera 90 degrees. For Pemberley they hired an office space I believe - by then they had *slightly* more budget! If you're interested in behind the scenes discussions of LBD, The Pemberley Podcast has an interview with Jenni Powell - that's where I first learnt about "the set".

    I am so glad to see Julia. Honestly in the book or movie or tv show I have never liked Charlotte as character. But I really love how Julia portrayed her. It was so much easier to understand her and identify with her. I hope we will see her again.

  • @StrwbrrysNChoco8
    @StrwbrrysNChoco8 Před 2 měsíci +1

    I think some of the inconsistencies/imperfections from not having a monitor is what made it feel so real, and was a reality that the later series lacked. I could truly believe Lizzie was a real person and didn’t have to suspend much belief that the things we saw on camera could go down that way. I never could quite believe that with the other series, even though (or maybe because) they seemed to have a higher budget.

    I'm having such an emotional reaction over these lmao I discovered LBD in 2014 (I was Lydia's age at the time), and I remember I felt kinda bummed out, like I was late to the party. But I have watched the series so many times over the years, and recommended to so many people as well, that now it almost feels like I was there from day 1. I also threw at least 3 watch parties with friends over the past 8 years, to watch the whole series with them. I'm so glad I get to experience this rewatch with everyone now!!!!

    I don't do anything in film, but I love watching behind the scenes thing, so when you talked about how you filmed *eight* episodes in a day and how many pages of script you were doing, my jaw just dropped! That's a LOT! How long of days did you guys do? I'm guessing the one advantage you had in getting them all done was that you never had to do multiple camera angles, it was only the one setup. But gosh, wow! I have even more respect for all the cast and crew now!
