That solo is perfect. The eastern sounding lick (right before he hits the open string dive bomb and does the pull-off lick again) is so eerie, which really serves a song about an HP Lovecraft story. Anyone know what he's doing there theory-wise? I hear a harmonic minor-like pattern but it sounds like he throws in an outside note and I don't know what scale it is in context with the rhythm underneath.

I agree a lot with the man with Sandman been more iconic, i think of the Black Album Sandman and Unforgiven are easily the top picks cause both solos are very dinamic and powerful in their different styles, the underdogs been The God that failed and the Struggle whitin wich share does same concepts, while Sad And Roam are amazing but much easier, though Roam is Phrygian wankery at it´s best, NEM is Het´s, Tread and Wolf are more disonant yet very aggresive, Holier, Never and Misery are good both indeed less complicated.

The guitar is All WIthin Your Hands. I loved the "Cunning Stunts" reference at the beginning. I remember throughout '99-2000 having Cunning Stunts on in the sitting room late late , when my parents were asleep upstairs. I couldnt really play guitar, but I had a blast trying at least to play along to James's parts with my guitar- unplugged-, round my neck as the sitting room was an imaginary arena to me. 🤘😁 That guitar is legendary, Ive always admired it. Unreal to see you play it like that. That is just amazing! Shout out too for Trapped under Ice. Excellent, underrated song.

Kirk Hammett is a guitar novice, but that could sound disrespectful for all the people starting to play guitar, if you mind his full absence of playing skills. Dude can’t even hold it properly. One of the worst of famous guitar players of all time. And he was never any good. Not even mediocre. And btw maybe for that reason he didn’t write anything for Metallica at all.
