How Berlin Became Europe's Techno Capital | DJ Ellen Allien about German Reunification

Ellen Allien is a techno icon, star DJ and head of a record label. Born in West Berlin, she says Germany’s Reunification was a defining moment in her life. The sound on the streets of the newly united city was hard and electric. This era saw the birth of techno music. Clubs popped up overnight, in disused industrial halls and abandoned spaces, such as former bunkers and vaults. Ellen Allien used to play there back in the day and experienced firsthand how the city became a huge magnet for techno fans from all over the world.
