    Step potential i think its called. The voltage has a variation between distances and the voltage can choose to equalize through your body if you take a step instead of the ground because there is less resistance through your body. This is a very real senerio, covered in arc flash class. Thats why theres the bunny hop.

      Only the writers didn't know what they were writing with that female "firefighter" speaking BS. Cars/gas don't explode like in Hollywood, maybe a flash fire. The bunny hop is for avoiding electrocution. At least they got the technique mostly right.

      Step potential is the correct term. It's also talked about when you get your rigging and signaling certification for crane picks

    Fun fact:cars don't explode,but they instead get set up in flames because at the gas tank,they are less likely to go KA-BOOM because oxygen is not enough for explosion but for safety,just make sure no electricity is near it

      As the gas tank leaks gas onto the ground oxygen is being sucked into the gas tank mixing with gasoline vapors creating a near perfect environment for a boom instead of just a little flame up, look up the mythbusters episode where they test different gas tank fullness for explosion chance

    Every single TV show with downed electrical wires get it wrong.

    • @stardragon8585
      @stardragon8585 Před měsícem +4

      I know, right? I work for my local power grid, the operators can easily cut power to lines, and circuit breakers exist to protect against shorts. You still need to be careful around downed lines after they've been turned off, but if the fire department calls and says turn it off, it's off

    Electricity always takes the shortest path to the ground. It was going through the car, but if he touched the ground at the same time as the car the electricity would travel through him.
    This is why birds can stand on power lines, they never touch the ground so the electricity doesn't travel through them.

  • @Luffy-ss4rq
    @Luffy-ss4rq Před měsícem +20

    he did that because the electricity had already started going through his body and because the voltage on the ground was different if he had put one foot down fisrt he would have died from the different in voltage

    Remember this is a tv show they're gonna make it dramatic and some times shit just breaks like this even if it looks like it shouldnt. this is FANTASY lets not try and ground it in real life. that takes the fun out of it.

    Thank you for the information.
    Around 1950 my Mom's brother, a good kid 19 years of age, was standing on the ground raising the boom on a water well drilling rig when it hit a very high voltage power line, and he was electrocuted.
    He wanted to join the army and go to Korea.

      Dude literally how I felt trying to watch the show on Hulu. It’s called 911, but they have different versions so idk if this is the spin-off or not. I gave up a few episodes in. It had a weird tone to it and plot lines were too far fetched for a show that seemed to want to be real and grounded in reality.
