  • Building the 1/48 scale PZL P11c kit from Mirage Hobby. The P11c was the Polish Airforce's main fighter plane at the outbreak of the Second World War with the invasion of Poland. It was briefly the most advanced aircraft of its kind when it was designed in the early 1930s.
    I'd only recommend this kit to advanced modellers.

    I have always loved these distinctive aircraft, I dont make kits anymore as I cannot do them but like watching them being built on here, I love your honesty with any mistakes you made and how you overcame them, I dont think I could of been forthcoming, especially with the superb end result, well done you have made a very hard to make model kit look excellent.

    After your vist to Telford you will realise that to get to a certain level of modelling you will need to invest a lot of time in a project.

    Thank you for your vids and also for the interest you put in correctly pronouncing the Spanish "j" sound in _Vallejo._ You get a good result. (if a bit exaggerated.) Most probably your English speaking audience will not like it too much, but the Spanish speaking section really appreciates it :) NOTE: The meaning of _vallejo_ is "small valley" (with a somehow pejorative nuance). It is also a Spanish surname and a city in Solano County, California, shoring San Pablo bay.

    That's a really nice model there Owen. I have been using Vallejo paints for years now, they are excellent as I think you have discovered. It's really good to see you trying new things, and getting good results from them, I think that a constant attitude of self-improvement is a big part of this hobby, and I personally get great satisfaction when I look back over previous models and see where I have improved.

    Great project! Your skills are vastly improving with each project. Micro Set works good for the initial decaling, it improves decal adhesion, but you should also get Micro Sol. Micro Sol will soften the decals to the point is will conform to any surface textures. I'm curious though, you paint individual parts while still on the tree, but others you paint after construction, such as the wheels and various cockpit parts. I seen many others do this as well, and to me it is much easier to paint before construction. Anyways, super looking model.

    Enjoyed your video and great to see you are brave enough to include your mistakes. Every kit i build has some form of disaster and i am continually learning (born again modeller). Interesting to see the glue stick aerial wires and that you brush painted it, which was standard when i was a lad in the 70's. I remember seeing a model of this aircraft when i was around 10 years old in the National Museum in Edinburgh. I remember it looked interesting with the cranked wing and i had never seen an Airfix, Revell or Frog kit of that type so thought it must have been scratch built. They had a large display of model aircraft which fascinated me as a young lad. Well done and hope you inspire more young people in these digital times,

    This looks great! You're getting better and better and I really appreciate the fact that you paint with brushes. This model looks already like it's been airbrushed. Good work! I have a question though. I heard you said you used 1 part water and 5 parts paint for thinning. What ratio do you recommend for thinning enamels?

    • @quickkits
      @quickkits  Před 6 lety +1

      That ratio is a rough guide, I don't always stick to it. Different colours may have different consistencies, I thin them until they feel right. But that ratio is a good starting point for acrylics or enamels generally

    How did the instrument panel ended up looking like? I'm considering this kit, I would really love to build P.11c and I'm torn between 1/72 and 1/48. In 1/72 there are at least two new releases of reportedly very good quality - Arma Hobby and IBG - but for 1/48 which I'd prefer because of the relative small size of the plane, as far as I'm aware only this Mirage Hobby is available and I know it has some issues.

    • @quickkits

      +Gabe Varley you can't use paint with washing up liquid, you could just use paint and water/thinner but then it's difficult to clean up. I've never tried fairy, you might want to do a test on a scrap piece

    Hi Owen. Quick question. You mentioned the Vallejo acrylic ratio to be approx 5 parts paint to 1 part water yet on your painting with a brush video you suggest the paint should have the same texture as milk. I've got Vallejo and I always seem to put it on too thick and getting it to milk consistency is way more than 5 parts to 1. A lot more thinner. Which should I do. 5-1 or to milk consistency please?

    • @quickkits
      @quickkits  Před 6 lety +1

      Try the 5:1 and see what it's like - it's only a rough guide. I think milk consistency is too runny for brush painting (but good for airbrushing)

      I wish I could display them in cases, or have a nice shelf for them. Because I move between university and home a lot, they just live in a cupboard to keep the dust off. Ideally they'd be in a glass shelf unit or in perspex cases

    I would love to use varnishes, it would allow me to use weathering, making recess lines, and i would like to use acrylic paints w/primer(because enamel's and turpentine fumes ruin my painting experience) but using all those sprays require so much hassle with gasmasks etc :(

      You can get some varnishes in pot which can be brush painted

    Best way of doing large decals is to use them as stencils, find a matching colour, and then use an airbrush to spray them on

      Revilomai G Owen is like the head of the " i don't need no airbrush" movement.

    Is there any way I can first put emanol, let it dry and then put acrylic over it??

      Yes. Allow the Enamel paint a few days to dry, and then paint your acrylic over the top. I have done it hundreds of times over many years.
