My very first watch given as a birthday gift from my parents when I turned 10 was an Oris, a complete surprise which I clearly remember thinking was a new harmonica as I unwrapped the blue slender cardboard box to be greeted by a shiny new Oris watch. It was totally unexpected as my Dad was a postman at which time wasn't a highly paid job, this is why any special purchase from "Doves Jewellers" in St Mary's and had to be of high practical value. I remember that watch and the one which Dad also had. I've just turned 70, Mum and Dad left this life too early, I still think of them often and how much they loved us kids and always showed it in special ways. I occasionally visit this site and couldn't leave without remembering them and that special Oris watch.

Well done to Oris for offering essentially the same watch in different sizes. It's a mystery to me why more manufacturers don't do this. I'd go for the smaller one.

I was totally sure that I was going to buy the 39.5mm (matte black dial) for my 6.5 inch wrist. However, when I visited my local Oris dealer I realized the 39.5mm was a little too small. After trying it on I was surprised at how much smaller it was in real life. It looked like a ladies watch to me. I decided to order the 43.mm instead. As it turned out, I am very pleased with 43.5mm and am sure that I would have regretted going with the 39.5mm, even though it might have fit better in my wrist. The dial/crown is so beautiful and in my opinion--in this case--bigger is better. It's completely subjective, I know, but I love the 43.mm.

I bought a used old version for £700; 43mm blue with black bezel. Love it. Then I bought the original rubber strap for it. The strap transforms the look and feel of the watch. I felt it was too chunky to wear with my suit for work. Probably because of the polished 24mm bracelet. The rubber strap I feel turns it into a casual diver, such a comfortable rubber strap. Great with smart casual and also wearing for light sport. Has a glide lock style clasp. Also enthused with vanilla so still smells nice 3 years later.

Unfortunately I thought it was a bit small for my 7" wrist so, I flipped it shortly afterwards. I was about to buy a 43.5 in blue this week but, in your video you mentioned a 41.5 which I didn't know they were listing. I think 41.5 would be perfect so, have placed an order. The new 41.5mm should be just about perfect. I love the the brand, especially it’s independence! Watch looks great and the construction is awesome. I’d prefer an all brushed bracelet but their rubber straps look great as well. I just cannot get past a Selita 200 at this price range. The movement matters and this has now become a movement I pick up in £400 pound watches. Yes it’s reliable and a very good movement but this watch deserves something better and the price does too. This watch channel remains the best in the business. My fav reviewer by far. My only issue is not enough of the watches I like get reviewed by my fav reviewer. I have to say, the 43.5 mm wears small. It looks perfect on your wrist. The 39.5 looks small. Normally I'd go for a 39 mm watch for my 16 cm wrist, but I recently got the Aquis GMT and it looks fine on me. Larger, yes, but not overwhelming. The compactness helps, as does the darker dial and thicker bezel.

Great Video Jody! I almost picked up the 'Yoda' late last year but the one that came into my AD had terrible bezel action. Great review , plenty of wrist time and showing above/ below the knuckle appreciated. The one Oris I owned for about 2 days was their bigger 47mm diver, what drove me nuts was a. Didnt feel like any weight at all on the wrist and b. That dumb end link for a strap changing nutjob like myself & others. I'd say that 43.5 looked sharp and is independently good looking with no need for reference needed to the R brand. Although not in my collection or rotation I find Oris especially on the 2nd hand market is outstanding value. Enjoy your new watch whether you know it or not yet. Lol

Sometimes I regret selling my Aquis, then I remember the faults: proprietary lugs and a polished bracelet (IMO tool watches, i.e. divers, do not age well on a polished bracelet). Still a great one to add to the collection and grey market dealers sometimes have them for just under $1000 US brand new.

I have the opposite problem to most that my wrist is just shy of 8" and am a big ham fisted Geordie so this piece is perfect, as a matter of fact 42mm is probably the smallest I'd go. The one thing I really like about Oris is the build quality is exemplary and all Oris watches feel good in the hand when winding/setting the time. Next watch on the horizon for me. Sinn UX Hydro oil filled. Something different for the wrist.

Once the pandemic is over I'm taking it to a local AD to get properly sized. I highly recommend this as a first luxury watch. You should also be able to find these brand new for around $1400. My next watch will have to be the Tudor BB 58 and even though my 12 slot watch box won't be completely full, I may be able to stop there. Who am I kidding? There's always just one more watch!

Hello from good old germany :) Nice review as always. I really enjoy watching your videos.
I got a question. Have you heard of "Davosa"? If yes, what do you think of them? Well I'm looking for a diver andcan't decide between the Oris Lake Baikal and the Davosa GMT Batman. I know everything depends on ones personal opinion but I'm curious of your thougts of these two watches.
    Stay safe

The excellent black-rubber strap is comfy, casual, and tones down the “bling factor” of these watches

Is it my imagination, or does the date dial positioning suggest the same size date wheel is used in both models? Nice lookers, the pair.

Can you do a comparison of the Aquis with the Rado Captain Cook 42mm please.
I'm trying to decide which of the two to buy. The downside of the Aquis is the custom lug design and inability to swap straps etc.
The Captain Cook is really nice too.
    I'm torn

Hey Jody, does Oris offer an all brushed bracelet, I have seen it in the past!? Cheers happy Easter 🐣

Nice review. However I object to the term, ‘all you really need in a watch anyway’ - wouldn’t we all just be wearing the f91w lol 😆

i own the blue sunburst 43mm aquis (v1). I got it for $1200. It is the best watch you can buy for that price but these are just too expensive now, you can save up a bit more and get a used seamaster or tudor

Jody, how do both these Oris compare quality wise with a Monta diver ? Century old brand vs modern world new comer.

Oris makes a nice watch. The larger one looks much better on you. I have come close to picking up a second hand Aquis on occasion but never pulled the trigger. Been watching alot of your vids lately w the CV lockdown and quite enjoy them! (especially all Seiko /SARB comparison /alternates) Hope you can get a SZSB012 "Seiko Spirit" to review and compare. I guess its the SARB replacement.

I know this is off topic, but any chance you could review some Bell & Ross and/or Alpina watches? I'm looking at a couple and could use your input

Hi Jodi. Good review, thank you. I would really like for you to say more about the bezel action.
When I tried these two. Firstly I found that there was quite a big difference between the two. But more important than that, they had horrible bezel action. . Inexcusably bad. A real deal breaker imo. Sorry to say

Agree. I prefer the bigger size. But it's a shame the 43.5 doesn't have the Yodas more green emerald appearance.. The colour is nicer on the 39.

    PLEASE HELP!
I was going to buy the 43.5mm Green Aquis, but now i see they only have the Calibre400 5 days power reserve and 10 year warrantee for the 41mm green aquis and not for the 43mm...
SHOULD I WAIT??? Will oris ever release a green aquis at 43mm with calibre400 movement?

Curious about the 41.5 - especially which colour of dial they go for, cause I'd prefer the 43 but don't like the green compared to the 39...
