How come that only Ukraine's part was blocked, as the rights belong ESC to the whole competition, and all songs should have equal protection? Anyway, just change the title to avoid dislikes for misleading title. :)

The one of Iceland was pre-taped during rehearsals, the contestants got tested for Covid every day, and the whole band had to be in quarantine when a member got tested positive!
This was their 2th rehearsal and to be honest I don’t really see any flaws.. I just wonder how it would have been if they performed live..

Yes, Eurovision IS a thing, haha. 💜 In most countries saround 90% of the population know what it is, even if they don't watch it. With it's 66 year history it's the biggest and longest running music competition in the world, watched every year by more than 200 mio people live. It was started in 1956 with only 5 participating countries to bring the people of Europe together after WW2 and unite them through music. Since then it has taken place annually (with the exception of 2020) and has grown and grown over the years with nowadays more than 40 countries participating in a contest. It has become a celebration of unity and diversity throughout Europe and Australia. You can on only participate if a broadcaster in your country is part of European Broadcasting Union (EBU). Since Australia is an associate member of the EBU and they have always watched the contest with great interest, they were invited to participate in the 60th anniversary show and have since stayed in the competition, always sending great entries.
Various well known artists have won or participated in the ESC, such as ABBA with their song or Celine Dion, who represented Switzerland (The singers don't actually have to be from the countries they're representing). The contest is also widely popular among the LGBTQ community, with Dana International being the first trans woman to win back in 1998. Drag queen Conchita Wurst won in 2014.
BTW, yes the songs have to be original, since it's still a *Song* contest, so the national juries from every participating country (which make 50% of the vote) will heavily focus on that, while the people at home (the other 50%) will most likely also take factors such as staging and vocals into account.
Hope this helped you understand the spirit of the contest a little more and why so many million people appreciate it. What is special about it, is that often you don't just root for your own country, but for others as well. It's basically a giant multicultural party with great music. 😂 Absolutely loved seeing your reaction. If you're planning on reacting to more of this year's Eurovision, I'd recommend France, Malta and Serbia. Italy and Finland had some real good rock songs. But there were so many more great songs, which didn't qualify and had to leave after the semifinals. If you want to listen to other editions of it, I'd propose the winning songs "Euphoria" from 2012, "Rise Like A Phoenix" from 2014 and "Arcade" from 2019. Maybe Netta's "Toy" from 2018 as well.
    Stay safe!

    • @GloreeyahOnuh
      @GloreeyahOnuh  Před 2 lety +5

Thank you so much. Totally appreciated learning this about the Eurovision. It’s the diversity for me, it’s amazing. Even when one can’t understand the songs, you can feel how beautiful they were. I’m glad you enjoyed watching. Cheers

All songs are new and especially for the competition. Although European countries enter, people confuse the countries that are in it from other parts of the world. Its actually run by the EBU, EUROPEAN BROADCASTING UNION. Television corporation, of which a few countries pay membership. The UK and 4 other countries pay a large amount each year. That's why the UK has automatic entry each year. Australia was invited to join on eurovision song contests 60th anniversary. The competition is well loved. Many people have had great careers after eurovision. A lot of people may have heard of ABBA. The competition has grown and grown over the years. I loved Iceland this year, the winners for me.

Not all are specifically for the competition. Italians will make their's for San Remo, Eurovision is just a small bonus prize for winning, a bonus prize which has been turned down twice. Many will make the songs for their national compettition with 0 intention of actually winning it. Others will write songs that are very personal for them and then either think it has a good chance or are discovered by someone else and launched into Eurovision. The latter type of songs do very well at Eurovision, as do the songs from countries with the most rigorous national competitions.

  • @MiudmonDice

Man, there's so many great songs in Eurovision that I think you'd really enjoy judging by your reactions.
Interestingly, you reacted to this year's 5th (Ukraine), 4th (Iceland), and 3rd (Switzerland) by the scoring system.
(Let me know if you want a quick rundown of the scoring system in place)
Might as well keep going with 2nd, France, and the winner, Italy.

Every participating country has both a jury of, for the most part, music professionals, and a televote. This year, this was 39 countries with their own seperate juries and televotes.
Each jury and televote give out 12-1 points for their top 10 songs, allocation being 12,10,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1.
The jury ranks all the songs between each other per country, with some weight given to higher individual scores in order to reward divisive songs. And by those calculations, whichever countries get top 10 in that countries jury ranking get the points.
The televote is a bit simpler. the top 10 countries that get the most votes from a particular country gets the points.
Of course, countries can't vote for themselves, but there is some diaspora and neighbor voting involved

Eurovision is a massive thing for my family and I. We celebrate it every year (even celebrated it when I was in hospital back in 2012)! Switzerland was my favourite entry this year, closely followed by Lithuania and Italy (you should definitely react to those if you haven’t already!) Fact about the Iceland performance: that was one of their rehearsals. They were unable to take part in the final live due to a member getting COVID.
