For 30 years I was trying to remember why I was sent to stay with my Great Aunt for the Summer I was 7. I knew something drastic must have happened at home but I could not find out. Last year I was standing in my kitchen and it came to me all of a sudden. She lost her husband and they sent me there to keep her company. How precious and now all the memories make sense. Suppressed memories CAN come back .

The pelvic floor dysfunction is so real but I almost never hear it talked about so kudos for that! My pelvic PT got me to stop having urgency because I was doing that “force it just in case” thing all the time.
The first doctor to speak to me about my pelvic floor was a pelvic pain specialist in another city, (who referred me to my PT) not my gp, not my OBGYN, like an endometriosis surgeon. After going to PT for my pelvic floor I’m a huge advocate for learning about it and talking about it, I think it would help a lot of folks :)

Forgotten memories don’t go anywhere in most cases not involving brain degeneration or injury, they get blocked from access by other processes. Interestingly, “forgetting” is an active process in the brain that is different from “not remembering”. It’s why you can have something “on the tip of your tongue” and remember it later.

The memory thing makes sense to me. That loss of connection to a memory is exactly why I can't remember single points of data. I have to have multiple data points to remember so that I have multiple avenues to access that memory. I can remember entire lists of names of people but I can't remember a single name unless I connect it to an existing set in my head.

Thank you for not quitting CZcams. And a HUGE thank you for not being pushed into endorsing things that you can't fully stand behind as a medical professional. Your comment about extra vitamins and such not really shortening illness time really hit home with me. My family has chronic medical issues--everything from severe asthma and autoimmune hives to chronic sinusitis and a deviated septum. If I had a dollar for every time someone said, "Oh, you should take this vitamin," or "You need to be exposed to more germs," or "More time outdoors would help your asthma," I'd be a heck of a rich person. You'd think that they'd understand if there's a genetic predisposition to health issues and you've been dealing with it for almost FORTY years, something like a vitamin isn't going to magically fix it. Having regular checkups, eating healthy, and following treatment plans that my specialists give me, however, does help me live a better quality of life.

    • @maruskaehrensdorfer
      @maruskaehrensdorfer Před 21 dnem

I agree! Although I have to mention that I have a chronic Vit D deficiency due to underlying chronic medical conditions and I'm permanently on prescribed Vit D tablets which really helps to keep my levels normal. Blood tests have shown how alarmingly low my Vit D levels become when I'm not on these prescription tablets. I also have to get monthly Vit B12 injections and iron (IV) infusions once or twice a year to keep my levels normal due to my nutrient absorption issues and other chronic medical conditions. So I would def advocate for supplements prescribed by specialists (not just a GP) if they make a huge difference and it shows up in your blood tests (or blood work as Americans call it).

It's honestly just handier if you're going to be out of the house for a couple hours or more to pee beforehand just so you don't have to worry about usually gross public bathrooms, interrupting your time out, and if you hit traffic or you get stranded due to a car issue, you're all set until help comes or traffic moves. As someone with ASD and ADHD, yes, sitting alone with our thoughts CAN be very difficult, but it is absolutely worth it. Our brains need times of doing nothing- true nothing, not just being on our phones- to process information. That’s why stuff like showering and short walks are so good for your mental health- because you are giving your brain a break instead of continuing to force-feed it even more information. This year I have realized that a lot of my problems absolutely stem from or at least are worsened by my addiction to my phone and not letting my brain have times of rest while awake. I even think that neurodivergent people might be affected WORSE by this because we can more easily become overloaded or struggle to process information! If you get understimulated when you try to take these times of purposeful nothing, maybe try doing something mindless with your hands like using a fidget toy to keep your brain entertained without overloading it with information :)

Plus preverbal children can’t tell what’s going on. I learned during residency that if I kept my mouth shut long enough, 95% of the time, the mom (regardless of the educational level) would point me to the correct diagnosis. I had a happy and successful 20 year career in private practice before starting my second career in new drug review at FDA.

Not an expert in memory stuff but I've read that it is stored in the hippocampus and there seemed to be neuronal connections with different senses like smell, vision, touch, etc.
So some ''lost'' memories can come back all of a sudden if we come accross, for example, a specific smell from that memory. It will create the same neuronal connection pathway and make us remember.
Also memories are more easy to remember the more we think about them because it reinforces the neuronal pathway in the hippocampus. Which is one of the reasons why spaced repetition is a good study method.

Med students are graded on how well they do on the floor during hands on training, as well as how well they do in the classroom. If they're getting Cs, it's because they're slacking on the floor during hands on training, too! Besides, what they learn in the classroom is knowledge that they then put into practice on the floor when they're getting that hands on training. If they're not paying attention in class, they're not gonna know what the hell they're doing on the floor!

It took hours for him to be seen in the ER, and that's one of the rare times I've almost lost my temper at a hospital.
Once the triage doc saw it, he was a little pissed they didn't give him higher priority.
They x-rayed it and was a clean break.
They used pins and rods to hold it in place while it healed.
When they took the last x-ray, there was zero evidence of a break.

You can get some mouldable clear putty kinda stuff at your dentist that’s really useful for situations like this where your braces are scratching you. You just break a small piece off and press it onto the part of the braces that’s bothering you. It helps with the pain because your braces are no longer digging into the wound or blister, and that also keeps the braces from irritating it further so it can heal. I used it whenever I got blisters when I had braces.
I think you should ask you dentist if something is wrong with your braces if you’re getting like actual wounds though. I’ve never heard of that happening before so I’m not sure that’s normal. Maybe there’s a sharp edge or something that needs to be filed down.
