In 100 years Rick Wakeman will be held in the same esteem as Mozart and Chopin. One of the greatest musicians of my generation.

Look, I love the guy, and he might be held by ROCK fans in the same esteem as Mozart and Chopin in the future, but in the classical world he's barely a blip on the radar, and if he's remembered for anything it will more likely be his cape over his musical chops.
But that won't stop me from enjoying his music and lusting after some of his gear. : )

@@ProckGnosis No need to compartmentalize: classic, rock, who cares, both Mozart and Chopin would have been jamming this, and ole Ricky boy is (was) right up there. I'm with Burtrum and reckon JIscariot is one of the most stunning tracks penned.

@@ProckGnosis ~ Yep! You're correct about that. Too bad! l dont really like Chopin. Too sleepy. He is a _good_ composer! l like his stuff way better than Stravinsky ....but Zappa would disagree. Wakes is a dynamic _entertainer_ with talent up the ying yang, and a cool 70's medieval shtick! l LOVE the guy too! Plus he's FUNNY!

Nobody on the planet has ever had such mastery of a keyboard as Wakeman. Save for Bach and Mozart.

Douglas Andresen Keith was more of a 'butcher' and I loved it! But, to me, he relied a bit too much on classics. Wakeman 'produced' more of his original music. Love them both.

+Buster Jones This has more Brahms but if you put Handel, Mozart, Bach, Beethoven and Emerson in the same room, the only survivors would be (in alphabetical order) Beethoven, Mozart and Wakeman. The only one I've seen play four and the quick fifth keyboard simultaneously is Rick. But glad you, too appreciate him!

My favourite symphonic piece from Rick's solo repertoire... I was blown away when I heard the lengthy original version on Criminal Record, many years ago, featuring a real church organ (the same as on Going For The One) . I do own some DVD's from Rick, but don't remember having this shortened version of "Judas Iscariot" anywhere.... I wonder where this comes from. I don't own everything, yet. it seems not very old.

Rick Wakeman completely tore me apart with this piece back in the late 70s!.. Especially when this organ theme at a crescendo was included in the finale of the play “AT THE BOTTOM” by Gorky!...In the Kharkov Youth Theater, staged by A. Belyatsky...

I don't know about Andrew Lloyd Weber. All I know is that it is a nice shortened version of what I consider as Rick's masterpiece, better than anything he had done before. I prefer the original version but this is a very good performance of what seems to be a forgotten gem in his repertoire, while it's a great achievement in my humble opinion.
But the right title is "Judas Iscariot", not "scariot"... Thank you for uploading it anyway. :)

Damn, I hope Wakey isn't reading all this "he's the best keyboardist ever" nonsense. He would die laughing, then proceed to name at least a hundred greater keyboardists in history off the top of his head. It's like Rush fans saying Neil Peart is the GOAT as a drummer. They obviously haven't heard of the many greater drummers who played.
I'm a big Wakeman fan, but too many of you confuse "greatest" with "my favorite."

Andrew Lloyd Webber does not need to apologize for anything! I believe the limit is 9 different consecutive notes before it can be considered stolen. It's called "influence" people. Chill out! The man has numerous keyboards, you think he can afford to let it slide, already. Besides, music isn't meant to be a competition, it's supposed to bring EVERYONE together.
Wakerman still has intense talent, regardless. I can only dream of performing on that many keyboards for one song. Brilliant!

There are only short segments in both works that resemble each other, and both segments are rather simple chromatic scale runs. Using scales is not and cannot be plagiarism, and even if it was then that would make Wakeman a plagiarizer too since he didn't write the chromatic scale. A musician of his caliber obviously knows this, and that is why he never sued.

Three points. One, you cannot steal a scale. Two, even if you could steal a scale, Pink Floyd did not write the chromatic scale. Three, even if playing a scale was considered stealing, Pink Floyd would be just as guilty as Webber.
