    Good idea the pivoted air line plate.
    Never seen that before.
    Alot of drivers dont even turn the fittings.
    Had trailers hooked up where the airline hasnt been turned, airbags left down, suzicoils tangled up, buckles and straps left loose.
    Big lock up and risk if the trailer maxi brake release line comes out goin down the road.
    Its amazing how many people you see who hook up goin all way under until pin is locked pull forward and bend legs, lift up a couple of turns, forget to go all way and bend legs on a driveway, go under too high where pinndoesnt grab in jaws and trailer falls off, go under too low and turn table goes thru front of trailer or breaks fittings and plug in trailer.
    A simple go back until turntable is on skid plate of trailer near pin, wind legs all way up, go in when trailer pin locks onto turntable, tug test, check jaws with torch, put airlines in and turn, put electrical lead in , turn on any taps at prime mover or B trailer, double check legs, check air bags, straps , buckles, tyres with bar, all lights working etc.
    Alot more people need to watch this video.
    Half the problem is everyone is in a rush to keep up with work diary.
    Cheers rod

      Hi Paul. The pivoted airlines on the right sure make it easier. You need to get a routine when hooking or unhooking trailers, and if you get distracted check everything again.
      I have definitely made mistakes over the years and still do.
      Have a great day.

      It's a tough job but someone's got to do it. Had a front trailer one time that was air operated to release the pin, just push the button, and electric rollers doors, is that just getting to lazy. LOL. No can't say I have ever seen a snow plow for sale.

      Hi Kevin. Stick shifts for the young guys now. I like the autos but they are not always perfect. Can use manual mode, just push buttons. I find them more efficient when going up hill. I was never that good with gear changes. European autos are better again.
      I see so many drivers swing those trailers back in, even on duel lanes, I take my time coming back over, even give a flash and stay in the right lane if no one behind give more space. Be surprised how many almost take the bumper off.
      I drive hard but try to do it safely. Have a great day.

    rod a few truck fires in the past 24 hours, one at yass and one at bulahdelah. what do you think causes these incidents?

    • @australiantruckerrod1070
      @australiantruckerrod1070  Před 5 lety

      Had to do a detour on Friday night, due to the Yass fire. That was the truck possibly an electrical fault, but usually a wheel bearing, they can fail and catch fire.
      There has been about 7 fires since the start of December. Seem a lot more than normal.

      There is a fire Extinguisher! There is one in the tool box of the truck easier to get too. Only had to use one once in the more than 26 years of driving. Small electrical fire. Do at times carry mixed dangerous good not sure how they react in a fire if it gets out of control, I've had no training to deal with this. Best to leave it to the experts.

      @@australiantruckerrod1070 Yeah.. cause you can't anyway. It's a huge shame, because the next generation could be operating these vehicles at a much faster and higher intake level than you guys are anymore capable of. You'se might have been good in your day or whatever, but the older guys need to step aside and accept that there's a new bunch of guys, eger to earn, and stop hogging the spot light because of 'experience'.. does my head in.

    • @australiantruckerrod1070
      @australiantruckerrod1070  Před 3 lety +1

      @@kingawags I totally agree with you. The transport industry needs a major change and it needs to be lead by a new generation. This old school way does not work anymore, need younger transport owners and managers to change the way things are done and anyone that doesn't want to change needs to get out of the way.
      This bullshit licence system is holding back young drivers, they are more than capable to handle any truck and trailer combination, get them into the biggest trucks and let them learn. Fatigue laws, work diaries need to be scraped, manage your own fatigue and not be told when to stop or sleep.
      The transport industry should have changed 30 years ago, one thing I hate is hearing the older drivers think they are better, bagging out new drivers for making a mistake, we were new once, but you have to forgive us because we are old and have forgotten that.
      But also learning from someone that has been doing the job for many years is good as well, get some experience. find better ways of doing the job, and make changes. Everyone has different ways of doing things, find the one that is right for you.
      I started doing CZcams for fun and have done videos because people have asked about things that I do, but don't think it is worth the trouble anymore.
