I am In ugly warm hair hell!!! I will bring this to my hair dresser and pray :) I wish I could just have you do it
You’re my favorite! Been watching you for a while now. You always give off such a positive vibe. Seem to be very beautiful & genuine person.
I think this video will help me a lot! I’ve always been blonde, lifting the hair prior to coloring it seemed unnecessary. You explained it so now I understand what was happening to my color at the roots. I was always using ash/blue/violet colors so it’s so frustrating to end up brassy after a hand full of washes! Thank you! 😊
Coming from a fellow stylist... Best video on CZcams for this problem hands down!
I have a question!! If you are going lighter on the root with hair color and not bleach , if u been going alittle lighter per session there’s going to be a band from say your natural “level 4” how does adding a lighter shade each time fix the “ warm tone “ from the root if ur only touching up ur roots and not the bands from going lighter ? New stylist here!!!
This is such a good video and explained so well. Thank you girl, you are amazing!!!
I had 3-4" of ugly warm banding from level 8 tint touch-ups on my naturally ashy level 6 hair. During quarantine, I followed your previous baby lights and toning tutorials (which is what you are explaining in this new video.) It completely fixed my problem! I only wished I had discovered it sooner because I hated that warm outgrowth. I'm sorry to see what has happened to your industry this year. You are a very good teacher and I appreciate your efforts to show us DIY.

can you please link to the video you are referring? I have the exact problem. thanks
M This is the detailed baby lights video. She explains the toning in the video we are commenting on.

Thank you!!
Thanks so much for leaving this message!! I am now going to go through her videos to find that video & then follow up with this again!!💞💯💞
I'm so glad you did this video. Thank you so much. This is actually a really big problem for alot of people. I have been to the salon so many times and they still can't fix it. It's crazy because I have been told so many times to "bring inspo pic" and even when I do I still get some weird variation of red blonde with golden blonde highlights here and there. It's just annoying!!
I thought it was just me.
You & I must be going to the same lame hairdressers!! I've been to high-end salons down to Aveda beauty school with instructors overseeing the foils. The only time I actually had a successful foil (had bands that she fixed the next day) was after the second foil... BUT she bleached 45 minutes on top of highlights she's done the day b4 & all my 'money pieces' broke off over the next month. But I looked 'freakin awesome' for the next month... & then just 'awesome' into I had 8 months worth of roots. I was too scared to have it messed up again. But another hairdresser did! Level 8 ASH is my enemy! Makes my hair color look like dirty saw dust color.
Same...!!!!!!! Four hairdressers in NY. Three in Connecticut. Nobody *ever* gets it right. Never.
@@angelas.9717 I recently went to a salon who did an amazing job. In fact they don't even use purple shampoos because they lift hair so amazingly. I was blown away. In fact they recommend against using purple shampoos and just concentrate on getting the lift right. Then follow with the correct toner or toners then maybe gloss. I bring up the purple shampoos because all of us blondes are told to use it like it's the saving grace and it's not. It always leaves my hair looking metallic magenta or gray. I had a great experience and have been getting compliments non stop!
First of all you are GORGEOUS! and second thank you so much! All your videos are literally life saving info! I appreciate your willingness to share your knowledge with the world where other haordressers dont...You are a badass💙
Thank you, thank you, thank you!! I can't say it enough! I finally managed to get rid of those meh orange-ish outgrown roots! And having quite the same hair colour as you made the decisions even easier! I used the same toners 😄 Greetings from Austria 🇦🇹
Lady you are a LIFE saver!!! Luckily I didn't have to lift my hair but a little 6n knocked my orange out enough to be tolerable or even better. I had a root tap that went all wrong and was losing my mind. Thank you so so much for sharing your knowledge!!!!!!
Im going to try. The salon made my money piece roots muppet orange. Thank God thats all she touched on my head. Im really stressed out since its at the front of my face.
@@tbunnyshy1 same boat!! Apparently it's my hair bc this is the 2nd stylist to do the same thing. I've done so much better going at it at home with a cap🤬
Perfect timing.. you have no idea how much I needed this!! 🍊🍊🍊
Thanks,, I've watched your videos before but re-watching again makes so much more sense. Love your videos. xx
I am totally comfortable doing this and have been retouching my own highlights since March, but what I haven’t found is a Demi gloss that even comes close to shades EQ for toner. What toning product available to the public do you recommend? The wella toners (that are really permanent color) blow my level 4-5 base up and turn it orange even when I use 10 volume.
I have watched your videos for YEARS and I FINALLY know what your talking about with everything. Took me doing a foilayage on my hair, now having dark level 4/5, natural roots , watching the reverse bayalage, and this and another video together to GET IT I still see orange in your back mid lengths and I'm thinking that's just somthing to deal with
I'm guessing now I'm gonna try to lift my base to a 6A *( with a 6g and 6n ) 1st then root tap with 6A after highlights every 3rd time I do my hair . O I need some product !! Lol I'm gonn as have to get from Sally RN. Cheaper for me , but I will eventually know' the right color and tones to stock up on after some strand test 1st the ofcorse after a few mths of trial : ) your amazing! You do explain things differently but now that I get it, I GET IT ! : ) your beautiful..
Excellent detailed and specific explanation! Thank you!
you are the godess of hair. Most informative and educational youtube hair stylist.
I'm such a big fan. Love this channel ❤️
My Gosh! You are the Blonde Hair Wiz! Y'all, I've followed her job for over 3 years. Silvia is not only an expert but a professional who is not afraid to share her knowledge FOR FREE!!! Who is Sylvia???
I've watched so many and I just don't undastnd but your actually getting through to me your speaking my language hun I bleached a money piece on to my dyed balayage and I bleached a bit of the roots but I feel confident to have another go x
looks easy and this video is very helpful
thank you for the up close only
I thought my roots were too dark to do baby lights 💯
I love your videos I recently went blonde and your information is so valuable I’m so thankful for it!
You give the best tips. Omg!!! So professional
Ive been doing almost exactly the same . I tone my roots with 9,21 1o volumes ox for 20 minutes after retouching grays with 7. It works for me
You always look so beautiful. Never used redkin, I will try them now
I love your videos, Sylvia!! I love your hair color!! It's beautiful!! 💖
You are truly a life saver. Best one ever 😗
Thanks a lot for sharing this video.I needed it.Too much problem in the past I stop bleaching because of the things I encountered and still not confident doing so.
Thanks for the video. Your hair came out beautiful
Great video!!! I can imagine that this IS a hot topic🤣Thank you for sharing your knowledge Silvia 🌼🌸💛🌸🌼
I cannot thank you enough!! I know these videos are not at all as easy to film, edit & post, as some people may think. I love the way your hair is colored!! I WAS trying to achieve similar results & I ended up with warm kinda orangey (not a word I know, lol) roots & ash ends!!YIKES!!😵 Of course I have somewhere to be tomorrow morning.. thank goodness for baseball caps,🤣🤣🤣!! On my way home, I will most definitely be stopping to purchase more products!! I've watched a few more of your videos and took notes. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR HELP!💞💯💞
I just did this last night and had the same orange results! Did you figure out what worked to fix it? I’d love to know!! Lol
You are great! Very clear, finally I understand! Thanks xx
Your so beautiful and has saved me from my toner dilemma! 🤗
Because most of us are doing more diy hair stuff I wanted to mention that there is this trend of using baking soda with peroxide as a "no damage" lightening solution. So, I tried that a few months back and while it Did lighten the hair it was very harsh and it was very damaging. I ended up having to cut about 2 inches off my length and then dusted to get rid of all my fried ends. Not to mention that I had to shampoo my hair and rinse multiple times to get the grit out of my scalp and hair. It was just a nightmare lol stick with bleach imo! Thanks for the video, I trust your advice and you look stunning as always! 💗
This was a great help. Going to try this.. Thanks so much.
You are an excellent teacher!thank you from T.O. 🧡
Excellent Information 👍🏼👏🏻
So what colour would we at home use for a root tap ? In the wella shades as you showed on other video , thanks btw saving us the shame of DIY mistakes 😃
Hi. Excellent information. I use Natural Instincts light blonde on my hair just to blend the gray with my dark blonde to light brown hair. Natural Instincts is semi permanent but seemed to be doing the job. I had been applying it to the roots only - every 2 months. The last time I used it I had waited 4 months between colorings and reapplied to the 2” of root growth and it did almost nothing. I left it on for 30 min as usual. Any idea what happened? I called Clairol but they didn’t know what went wrong. Thank you.
I just have to say I've been watching your tutorials and they are very helpful. When you're holding up pics of various movie stars I think that you're prettier than all of them! 💐🎂🥂🤩
i was not created to be able to do this lol, im wanting the blue shampoo you recommended, but you look fab and give so much help ty
Plz explain how to not get a yellow band when bleaching long roots, ive asked a lot of hair dressers on CZcams and Nadia but your the person who inspired me to go platinum and I’ve gone a bit to long in between bleaching but I don’t wanna have platinum roots and platinum tips and a yellow band in between if you know what I mean.. love ya sylvia
Uhhh you are the best🙌🏼 so wish you could actually do my hair 💕
This was so helpful! I've been looking all over for advice on how to effectively color brunette hair without the orange. I'm wanting to go neutral blonde on my lengths and ends but a 6 on my roots, so you're saying I should lighten my roots to an 8 to achieve a 6? Or can I just lighten my entire head to a 9?
I still watch your videos every time i do my hair
Omg thank you! This is so helpful
Hi Elle, thank you for the video. SoI am brunette who wants to achieve a Level 7A without the Red/Orange. What Toner would you suggest? (I do use Wella products)
You are always my hair goals. 😍
I just recently went to a newer salon. I have white hairs and bleaching it wasn't helping my whites. So the new stylist went in where my whites were with a level 3 and highlights. Finally did cover my Grey's but left it light enough without making me to pale
This is the best video so so informative thanks so much xxx
I am new to hair coloring and am watching your videos. Do you rinse the color or bleach off before doing the root tap?
Can you make a video how to do highlights at the back of the head? It's so haaard to do it yourself. 😅
Haha agree. As a stylist since I was eh 16 years old and mother and two aunts as stylist as well, simple answer is usually right, use a cap!! I’m sorry to burst any young hair stylist bubbles but hear me when I tell you sometimes the old ways still work the best !!!!! You can feel the holes with your fingers and as long as you have fbr cap nice and tight it’s all good !! I just used one did it myself and everyone at work swears I went to see my stylist !! Lol. Oh and I still use old fashioned sponge curlers !!!! Beats a curling iron any day and they last longer !!! Strips of old t shirts for rag curls !! Amen :). Happy hair do’s y’all!!
Thanks girl, I'm gonna be lightning my hair later today, wish me luck, n my hair is brown med
Video request: brown balyaged and babylighted hair that is still warm --> work with the orange or lighten farther and add desired shade back in?
I have strawberry blonde hair which I went more auburn with darker warm brunette lowlights and blonde highlights. Not only did the highlights not stay contrasting for long, but how do I deal with roots that are naturally "brassy" or blend lighter hair into the darker hair? So many videos show darker roots coming in
I love you, I’ve been watching you for years!!! I ran into someone at sallys and they were also watching your videos lol #Hairgoddess🦋
This is exactly my hair problem, however I didn’t use colour. Lightener highlights, then 6n shades eq toots and 10n ends. I think I just took my lightener off SLIGHTLY too soon and finding it hard to cover this warm root
this is a great way that seems very easy for at home
Great video! Thanks so much 🙏
Would the red neutralizer ruin my blonde balayage ends if I would to use it on my whole head? Or should I just keep it only to my roots and red spots close to the balayage?
I went lighter . There's this product they used on my hair. Im not sure if it's the shampoo, Conditioner, or the toner. It made my hair really soft even after shampooing for weeks. Is there a product you suggest that is the closest to what they used?
Could you show some different ways to style a short pixie cut?
You are awesome! You should teach if you arent one already.
You explain so well thank you so much. For bleaching you said you used 30 vol developer but when you said the tones 6-8 you didnt mention the developer. You said processing solution. So you didnt use developer??? In trying to do this on my own. Thanks again.
Perfect video !!!! precious informations ❤️thanks beautiful Silvia
Whst makeup and blush are you wearing?? Beautiful!
Does she have a list of products . I want to try this
Thanks for the advice
Your video is amazing, what do you put in your hair to not make it look so brassy?
Love your hair!!
Hey Elle, could you please review blondme and do a session using it? I’m looking at the vol7 with bleach and the pastel and dark toners.
When covering greys with Redken color gel lacquers. Does it have to be an NN, NA or NW in the mix or can it be just an N on its own? I've heard both🤷♀️
Ahhhh ok so I just need to bleach roots again then tone. Thank you
I’m on my fourth video from you adding to my basket as I go 😂😂 could I ask about the red Ken toners? I’m looking at the platinum toner too what is the difference with the 9p you used?:)
Thank you so much for confirming what I am planning on doing as far as lifting my new roots! After I lifting the entire new growth, I have been applying lightest golden blonde (level 10) with a "No Red" color correction due to the amount of natural red tones in my hair. My natural color is a level 6 to 7 with approximately 30% grey. Currently I have an inch of new growth. I was wanting to ask how much new growth do you typically want before lightening your new growth? Any suggestions would be very helpful 🙂. Thank you again for such an awesome video! I look forward to seeing you in the salon soon!! Hopefully we will all be getting back to our lives but with precautions. 👝💄💋🛍. Any VLOGS coming our way for shopping (Sephora), clothing or new makeup tutorials for fall trends 2020?? Sounds like a great time!!
Not the creator, but I do my graying roots myself every 6 weeks with an eSalon kit. Sylvia is an affiliate for eSalon, I use her code.
I guess it really depends on how fast your hair grows, on average hair grows about an half-inch per month. I like waiting a bit longer than that , it makes it easier to color my roots without touching my existing color.
What is eSalon?
Hello I loved your video but I'm having a hard time figuring out what to do with my Hair I Need help!!!
Do you have to apply toner after you bleach your hair if you re dyeing your hair grey ?My hair was a level 6 and is about a level 9 now
HELP! I went from virgin dark brown hair to a heavy amount of bright blonde highlights a few weeks ago. I loved it. However I had to get it retoned because the underneath was several shades lighter than the top. After she retoned it and dried it, the blonde now looks like a brassy dark blonde or brown. I hate it. WHAT DO I DO to get it back without resending my hair???!!! My wedding is next week 😢
Hey Elle! Did a 10N root color (color gels) on a level 5/6 but only used 25 vol on her fine fine hair. Lifted orange. Broke it up with highlights but she still sees orange. 2 days ago.. doing again tonight would you just shadow root on dry hair to neutralize with 7n shades eq?
Awesome! Explain root tap better-color only without developer? Did you put root tap and tone with wet hair?
It was great thanks. I just didn't get the root tap part 🧐
Great video but I would like to know what you do over time to maintain all the blonde on the ends
Thank you soooo helpful information
Hey, Silvia I know you did a video with Adam on the topic of male tv makeup can you do an updated version?
Thank you for this 🙏🏼🙏🏼
Hi there. I have a question. How would you remove roots melts? My client changed her mind and realized that she doesn't like darker roots after we did it. So I'm just wondering if there is any easy way to remove it like color remove it? Will it be too steong or do u have to put foils on roots again. This is a very fresh color . Thanks
Please help me
Do you have a video on how you do your weaving for the baby lights?
Love ur color in video just wow..can u guide me number 6 root tap u apply on wet hair ??with vol 20 ???
Secondly no 9 tone u apply on wet with wot vol ?? I guess 20?? plz reply
So I'm a blonde (level 8 or 9), and I want to go balayage and have my roots darker (dark mushroom) without being orange. I'm cool skin tone. What shade should I be buying at Sally's? Would a 6 work... like 6A? Ash, beige, or neutral? Also, can I put a toner on the darker parts, like the roots? I just bought wella T18 & T27 for the toner.
But how do you lift the roots without touching the rest of your hair for an even deposit that will lighten the roots by a little and darken the rest by two more shades?
Do it as close as possible and the bleach will swell a bit. It will get a bit on the other but when it’s all down and together you won’t notice the small change. So long as you seeing doing one stright line and a huge glob your going to be fine.
Go to beauty school
@@theparlourlady543how is this helpful? Some people don't have the funds to get their hair done professionally. This is so entitled
Hi Elle, love your videos, I learn so much from them. There is only one question about the root tap. Can you explain the exact mix ratio for the root tap and what level is the processing solution you use? Thank you so much.
Shades EQ requires 1:1 ratio (whatever quantity you have of the Shades EQ liquid, you match that same quantity of the Shades EQ developer in a bowl , which I believe is a 7 volume developer). Hope this helps!
what to use if you don't have access to redken products??
so what do you do now to get it blonde instead of yellow?
So your toning on damp hair ? I thought it had to be dry?And someone said to use direct dyes meaning tore right out of the tube onto hair with no added or dilution of low or any developer?Ive never heard of this in my many years of bleaching
I had carmel highlights and used t35 wella toner to make it more natural but it turned my highlights orange and my roots are orange. They were dark brown and now it looks like I have orange hair on top and dark brown at the bottom. How do I fix this? Or do I wait for the toner to be washed away, and when it does wash away will my roots be orange still?
Hi Sylvia, you make amazing videos. Thank you so much for sharing your amazzzing info.
What about gray hair? It is different than a natural or coloured hair colour.
There are different levels of gray on a head. They are rarely ever all the same. The colour lighter on top and darker in the back of the head.
The top can be dyed with a colour to a level 8 -9. So you are blonde.
But the back - underneath can only be dyed to a level 7 RUST tone. Eek!! 🤯
Would luv to know how lighten the back without bleach? Do not wish to use bleach.
Perhaps with an accelerator that is not bleach? Scruples has one.
How about a High lift blonde with 30 or 40 volume?
Or, what about dying the whole head with a level 7 and 8 - 1/2 and 1/2 with an ASH Blonde? Could this result in a medium ash blonde all over evenly and cancelling out all red tones?
Will toner and purple shampoo work properly on dyed hair?
Would luv to have the answers to these questions. You are definetly one of the BEST with hair. 😊
Can you do a video If you are a natural level 3 with whites coming in with highlights how you maintain that at home? Do you use permanent color or Demi for the root area? Or do you have a video for that?
I applied a demi colour as a root smudge to my natural colour as highlighted to high, it's faded out brassy and lighter than my roots, am I using a colour lighter than my natural root or shall I be using permanent? Thanks xx
Do you have to separate these procedures you can’t do the route color and baby lights all in one step or do you have to do them one after the other to get that same result
What about going from almost solid blonde to wanting a bunch of low lights? Is there a way to get a really ashy brown color in a level 6-7 to stay and not fade to gold so quickly?
If you have to cover gray would you cover the grays first and then do the baby lights then retone?
What is the best oil for extremely dry bleached hair
