  • The Electric Bike Technologies Electric Fat-Tad Trike is a tadpole trike with a focus on comfort as well as stability with fat tires, recumbent seating position, and adjustments to get you dialed in. Open platform allows you to swap battery sizes, adjust the top speed and amp flow to change performance vs. efficiency, large bright display panel is easy to work with, full triple suspension all around. A nice SRAM GX derailleur, triple ring setup for 21 gearing combinations, 2 mechanical disc brakes, a parking brake, motor inhibitor, and reliable electrical system. The display panel is mounted more securely but you have to glance away from the road to read it, suspension not made for large bumps, and it is somewhat heavy and hard to maneuver in tight spaces.

After my brain tumor surgeries, I didn’t think I would be able to do anything. I’m pretty sure I can do this. I want a electric recumbent trike to have some independence like going to the grocery store

I’m 67 and I’ve had two back surgeries for stenosis, including five fusions and two laminectomies and a major ligament bisected. Aside from the chronic pain, I’ve lost a bit of feeling in my feet and toes. I can still walk, but sometimes use a cane if I’m walking a long distance or on uneven surface, multiple flights of stairs, etc. I haven’t gotten much exercise since the surgeries and want to strengthen up my lower body as much as I can. I do have an ebike (Serial 1 Rush City Step-thru) but am considering getting an eTrike as well. Several reasons:
When I feel especially achy and especially numb in the ankles and feet from intermittent inflammation, I would feel more confident on a trike (some day I will probably have to give up two-wheeling, but not today).
If I want to go out and ride, but it would involve riding on ice, snow, loose gravel, wet leaves, off-road, etc. again, more confidence on three wheels.
Finally, they seem very cool. Even if I was young and healthy, I might still desire one in my stable.
Best wishes to all of you working to rehab after medical issues compromising your strength and/or balance. 👍

@@CncObsession Maybe not quite so easy...I noticed the frame cross member is several inches forward of the seat. This means when getting on, the "controlled fall" into the seat is OK but when standing, your legs have a hard time getting under your tailbone for efficient extraction. For some people this could be a problem.

Dudes, you guys need to make a standard checklist and a specific type/use-case checklist of things to cover or compare or address in each review. You tend to ramble all over the place and then leave out crucial bits of information. It would be easier on you as well as us. Your speaking style is fine, very sympathetic and approachable, just need some coherent information formatting/outline to guide the presentation along the way.

So, you have a trike and they struggle on hills. You add a hub drive that actually loses power on hills. The trike is hard to get started, but the hub drive is cadence based so your only option is to add a throttle to help you get started, except they aren't allowed on more amd more state and local trails.
This is 90's tech. A torque sensing mid-drive makes a lot more sense. It is a cleaner, quicker install even at the factory. It doesn't have a separate controller and needs no shift or brake sensors. Most importantly, you can down shift for more power when you need it most.
That rear wheel, already taking a beating because of the layout, ends up with those spokes supporting an extremely heavy motor. A 7-8# mid-drive upfront can be counter balanced with a rack mounted battery at the rear for less total weight as well as better balance and significantly better range.

Ask why these guys don't run a trickle charge little generator off one of the wheels to the battery and charge while your moving. Just like the older bikes w/ their front fender lights. They ran a wire from the light to a little generator w/ a little wheel up against one of the 20" tires.

    • @data9309
      @data9309 Před 3 lety

The generator will slow the trike down. It is a way to charge going down hill and stopping. Otherwise, it is a waste. There are bike motors which are able to recharge the battery while going down hills or stopping. Only one company sells systems which will work well without slowing the bike when pedaling.

You want real full suspension? take a look at Stein Wild One trikes, F1 type double A-arm king pin front suspension. I have one and real off-road riding in the mountains of Oregon is possible and a blast. I use a Bafang 750W drive system, with a 26" rear wheel so climbing is only limited by traction available. Yes not so good for single-track, but on gravel roads and double track, it's more fun than I ever thought it could be. The guy obviously has no idea how a full suspension system works.

Initial response: Got this bike for my friend. czcams.com/users/postUgkxUiL0GnyDjP32RJdd660sP8mZk4CRLTCJ Delivery was fast. And the friend was surprised I would order it when she had never suggested she wanted anything but the pedal bike she had. She has now ridden the bike two times and gives it a 10 and says it is very fun. We have some hills in our town that are very challenging to climb on a typical bike. But tonight she went up with the pedal assist and loved it. I was way behind on my standard bike, huffing and puffing. Now she is no longer lagging behind me. This thing is powerful enough that a person could go around town without any pedaling. She likes to get some exercise so on flat ground she hits the red button to turn off pedal assist and only uses the twist throttle when she's in a tough spot. The bike looks good. It is really a very nice bike for the friend. Now for me, when I get an electric bike, I'm twice her size and will be looking for a bigger watt motor and battery. But this one is just wonderful for my friend. I am happy with this purchase.

Finished watching this review. The each hand connected to pad clamp and wheel itself braking and steering of tadpole DESIGN is new to me it looks like YOUR legs stabilised direction WHEN in " look ma no hands"ing seconds of video streamed past me at 2x....
But regarding using "lead acid cheap charger to fill quickly a alternatively procured bag of prismatic scib 'bags' Of LTO" A THOUGHT.
STARBUCKS offers free wifi and less appreciated ICE. If you can find "an ELECTRIC outlet" hundreds of nice dc voltsAMPS are beyond fractional minute extendable for said PRICE. Modified to melt 🔮"'ice' cheap CHEAP maybe even LIGHT make ensembled a glawsum RIGHT."
COULD the community chime in on such a "tool bag RACKED AS DESIGNED" for this trike? Opened after hike, "dumped in ice & out drawn 120 volt ac cord" gets near two kw's FOR just $99 ish PRICE I bet?
If these 12 VOLT boxes can do "1200 sine wave cycles"[AKA SPEC FOR STARTING AMPS!] air cooled they can sustain it hours ie FOREVER IF fed solid water sufficiently. 20 POUNDS OF ICE VENDED FROM "ROBOT CONTAINER" IS UNDER (UNCHANGED FOR YEARS INCLUDING PLASTC SACK LITERALLY SWEET 16 "PIECES IF EIGHT") TWO BUCKS.
THE ice machine company I BET petitioned would include a few extra kwh's DC even-- but CERTAINly has realestate and parking begging for ev charging overlay.
    RIGHT?

I’ve ridden recumbents-2 different styles in the past and they were great- comfortable as hell. It does take some practice with the handlebars under the sear style- but very comfortable and they fly downhill. Very aero.
