Rock-Hewn Churches of Lalibela, Ethiopia [Amazing Places]

- The 11 medieval monolithic cave churches were built or rather carved from the rock by king Lalibela in the 13th century to create a 'New Jerusalem'. In the video: walk around the 11 Lalibela churches, beginning with a morning mass at Bet Giyorgis, and following with Bet Medhane Alem, Bet Maryam, Bet Danaghel, Bet Gabriel-Rafael, Bet Emanuel, Bet Abba Libanos. At the very end - Yemrehanna Kristos church, located in a natural cavern, 40 km from Lalibela, predating the Lalibela churches by a century. The Lalibela Rock Hewn churches are UNESCO World Heritage site.

My husband and I have taken our McPherson College (Kansas, USA) students to the rock hewn churches in Lalibela, Ethiopia, eight times. If you get up very early on Sunday morning, that is when the churches come alive with all the priests dancing their holy ritual. our students love it.
In recent years, we have, taken school supplies for children in the local schools as a service project. We, also, deliver Personal Energy Transportation wheelchairs to people who have no medical recourse in that country. Those who are to receive the wheelchairs, however, must be approved by the government BEFORE we can send the chairs to them. Thus far, we have delivered 25 to Ethiopia.

It's not a miracle. It's just a wisdom and brilliance of ancient people knowledge that we modern people didn't catch on.
My grandma used to tell me store about this place. She was born 5 miles away from Lalibela and this is the church she used to go when she was growing up. This church is very blessed.

I am presently in Lalibela, the site is simply breathtaking. A visit to the museum where the knife used in the carvings is stored is also a must see for anyone who goes to Ethiopia.

Its incredible, God make those saints like St. Lalibella able to construct the rock-hewn church. Visiting the place, getting the blessings & spiritual songs is so wonderful. It has also impressive drainage structure.
The fathers of this great place were great & smart for building it right into the stone. So that in the future the descendants of this great Ethiopia will always remember who they are & what their religion is. Well done!! U all have long lasting churches!!

First of all, I love how you refused to capitalize _Bantu_ and _black American,_ but had no problem capitalizing _Horner_ and _Cushite._ Not condescending at all. No insinuation of any superiority dynamic there.
Secondly, what's wrong with black Africans taking pride in the history of other black Africans? Plenty of white people do it all the time. Germanics and Scandinavians often take pride in Greco-Roman history, despite the fact that Southern Europeans, Northern Europeans, and Western Europeans are completely different from one another in terms of history, culture, and even physical appearance.
You're just looking for an excuse to divide black Africans and make them seem inferior.

Well I won't judge, but the fact remains that it's a common sentiment in the United States (where I'm from), especially in the South. We have a lot of white nationalists, who are mostly of Germanic descent, say things like, "we built cities in Rome while Africans were still stuck in the Stone Age." (not true by the way, but that's what they say).
All I'm saying is that if it's acceptable for Germanic whites to take pride in Southern European history on the basis that they're both "white European," then it's not in anyone's place to criticize Bantus for doing the exact same thing with regard to East African history (on the basis that they're both "black African.")

We remove our shoes before entering the beit keneset (synagogues) where I pray.
True not all Jews do this is mostly because climate restricted being able to no wear shoes for those communities. But a large proportion of beit keneset's you don't wear shoes.

I am Ethiopian currently live in the USA and I was lucky together with my son to visit the Lalibela Churches for the first time this September. We were speechless !!
