The best part of this stream was the story of Sterling and the CO2 meter.

Field day is noble in concept. When the event is used to hone emergency skills, and be a vehicle for PR to recruit new hams it can be highly productive. However, that has not been my experience and I echo what Jim said about his local club. I personally think the community has blinders on and has lost their way by focusing on keeping the group to a select few, aka a clique. There is no media announcement, no sign on the road and no community interest BECAUSE the average person has never heard of Field Day. It's like a secret society. IMO, clubs are killing ham radio.
Thank you Kyle for doing all that you do, and sharing your content freely via CZcams for ALL to watch and learn from. 73 OM

No hate here (ref limiting CW speeds for Field Day). I do slow down during some POTA CW runs.

I'll be traveling for field day which is kind of a bummer since I got back into radio just prior to field day last year, and now I'm wanting to participate in field day this year.
Likely to get rain in the afternoon/evening so maybe I won't really be missing anything.
The club's OM are good folk and very welcoming, but I can't exactly fault them for preferring comfort over radio when most of them are 70+.
On the plus side it does give me a year to get better at CW.

@@AA0Z Fully on the morse train as learning CW was an agreement I made with wife when I got back into radio - learn CW and then I get a 705.
Still beginner enough that its a little intimidating to call CQ. There is still a small part of me that doesn't always want anybody to answer.
To the point of so many stations running 25+ WPM for field day
An easy call maybe I could copy at 25 WPM - maybe - but more than likely I'll need 3 or 4 repeats making the contact take longer.
But at 18-20 I'll probably get it first time and definitely the second. Slower can very often be faster

no computer can duplicate the on the air cw one can hear. add in a straight key, and that changes everything again.
