00:00 What Was That?
00:43 Nice Kydex Sheath
01:00 Wild Ergos
03:48 Compound Blade
06:47 Secondary Grind Sucks - Věda a technologie
Thanks for showing it off, i think weve pretty much perfected man's oldest tool, but we have a long way to go as far as grinds and materials
I bought one. I’ll admit to being shallow. I bought it based on looks. I believe it was designed with self defence in mind. I went to the designers website, PG Knives, and he calls it the Defender. So it stands to reason that at EDC tasks it doesn’t excel. I hope Civivi does more of his designs. Eighty dollars is easier to budget for than the custom price of $380. Thanks for the review.
That compound grind is sort of like the Mora Kansbol... Which is full flat up front and scandi in the back.
Except the Kansbol works.
I LIKE D2 !
D2 has become my favorite steel!, not because it is the BEST!, but best choice for me.
So why should I pay 4x more!, for a 5 to 15% better steel.
D2 is PERFECT!, for the ordinary average everyday needs of a typical person.
Having both, the Propugnator looks to have a lil of the Microtech Socom Alpha Mini in its genes, minus the tanto, at a much more reasonable price point. Being former federal LE, where I spent 5 1/2+ years as a Long Term(deep) Undercover Operative(narcotics & child prostitution/human trafficking), I was involved in four(4) knife/dagger encounters. D2 was my steel of choice, as I still carry the two(2) knives/DE daggers that I used in those encounters and they're as sharp and in as good shape today as they were 25+ years ago.
I carry five(5) knives/daggers concealed on my person along with my regular EDC, a heavy duty folder, as I own a machining company as well as a bar. I do not use my fixed blade fighting knives/daggers for anything cept their designed purpose, so cept for a regular rub down, they never leave their sheaths, as once I left that world behind, I stand a better chance of getting hit by lightning than I do of getting into knife fight as a regular citizen, lolol.
That said, the Propugnator is an excellently designed, well crafted superbly priced fighting knife, though I myself prefer less belly on my fighting knives and daggers.
Nice review🤙
Continued Success🍻
RP
Haha, I just got one two days ago! I do have to say that mine came DULL, not even able to cut paper worth a crud. I had to reprofile the edge quite a bit and pull back the relief edge, but once done it is magic. LOVE the handle as well which is super comfy. All in all a great purchase and value.
The compound grind looks like it's meant to split wood instead of using the front of your blade to do it.
I just handled my buddy's and I REALLY like it. I only have 2 complaints. The raised spine, chamfered or not, isn't as comfortable as it could be. Make it flish with the scales. 2nd is the non-existent sharpening choil. Otber than that, it's REALLY GOOD❤
Have you tried using the thicker grind for wood carving maybe? Only thing I could think of, slicy tip robust heel 🤷
Looks like they were going after: “winkler knives at home” vibe. Thanks Aaron.
That looks good to me. I have a Tamashii, it's awesome!
Id love to see a review of their Stormridge. I cant decide if i want one or not.
Coming soon!
I think that's the grind dejour. I've seen similar compound grinds out there recently.
The back piece close to Handel is what you batton with and do heavy chopping, rest of grind is for slicing
I like myself the D2 steel it is a good strong blade steel. Then again all my daily carry blades are s30v, 154cm or D2. All good in there own ways and great for my needs.
i like this grind, like the Kansbol. it is multi purpose. I prefer this one, more slightly I think... I don't have it, longer sabor/flat grind.
Looked at this on Sunday, and was thinking it would cut like a beast...
Mora seems to do the transition compound grind on the Kansbol better. Easier to sharpen.
It definitely looks interesting.
I always thought those blades with the 2 grinds were very Gimmicky , and that low Saber Grind should have definitely been a good Hollow Grind to make that Blade a lot slicer ..... 👍🖖
Totally agree I’ll hollow grind instead of a saber would’ve made way more sense.
Looks like Civivi took a page out of William Collins’ playbook. I love the combo grind on my Kansbol knives, but this one just isn’t tripping my trigger for some reason.
Nice looking knife !
WE/Civivi are knocking it out of the park lately EXCEPT these weird compound grinds. Occasionally they look good. Usually they’re ugly. But they’re always non-functional and make sharpening more difficult. Wish they’d ease up on that a bit.
If i only carried knives due to their function, i would only carry my esse 3 or izula 2. But i got one of these, and it's like carrying a work of art. The steel is ok, the cutting ability os so so, the handle is very good ans it looks amazing.
I think 14c28n would have been better, but it looks like a good little knife
I agree that 14c28n with a 61 hrc would be good.
If they had a Wharncliffe version of this knife I would be all over it.
Could that back grind be more of a scandi grind with a microbevel? Did you try feather sticks or carving with the back of the blade?
interesting blade.
At first glance I thought it was a Schwarz Overland. Might have to pick this one up.
Looks like the design is based on a flint knife. Kind of trendy, I can them selling a bunch of them just for the novelty factor.
There is some truth to that
Wish you got the ultem one!
At first glance, I thought it would be better with a one flat grind and a continuous curve in 4mm-5/32" thickness.
I would agree with you on all fronts on that.
I look at the grind as somewhat of a simulation of the Hinderer slicer grind. Idk
Compound grinds always seem super gimmicky to me (except big knives like the Skrama or Terrachete).
This is what cliff stamp said: design by picture😢
They waste money on CNC machining the fuller and combo grind /fancy handle, shaping the egde of the kydex
Instead of improving the heat treat on 14C28N and using it
Civivi does a great 14 C heat treat.
Sog pillar still the best with all boxes ticked. If this Knife is at least 154cm, I will buy.
Long time viewer. Only negative comment is please for the love of God, please stop using an open mouth photo on the title screen. Thank you.
😂
The sad thing is, you have to do the nonsense video preview screenshot as a contend creator to attract potential viewers and get clicks on your video.
maybe its accidental😢
Or make your own videos or move out of your mom's basement...
It's the "soy-boy surprise" face... It's a thing, and I don't know why.
what sharpener did you use?
G'day Aaron, well its different all right, but different just for the sake of being different, usually doesn't work out too well. As a tool its gotta be practicality first, ............. it aint a fancy dress costume ; )
Its kinda like a Kansbol/Eldris approach, which does make some sense for those, but still, cant say I'm a fan of dual grinds in general, because; one day you may require the finer grind at the front end, and on another you want it at the back, and same deal for the less acute grind, and then there's the transition point where the two grinds meet, ..... cant think of any task where that portion would be beneficial, .... more of a nuisance I'd say.
Sure the sharpening is not that difficult, though why make it more fiddly than it needs to be.
All in all, just creates more problems than it solves IMO.
Btw; I'm gonna take 14C over D2 ........ every day !!!.
Cheers Duke.
Yep, i know something's off with that compound grind.
Looks like the Hogue Deka
Eafengrow 137, 122, etc.
Cocoons? Yeah. That’s not the word.
Hello, Im looking for an ESSE 6 Drop point style knife. What would be a similar sized & shaped knife but with better blade steel? Thanks!
Ontario Rat 6
Reminds me of DJ Urbanovsky/American Kami
I see this is a Ptor Gosciniack design. That's pretty cool, but not my cup of tea. It had no finger protection which instantly ruled out hard use.
Did they want the blade to mimic the handle scales pattern?
Civivi made a real knife?
Definitely scored on that Tanto Recon...awesome blade...this civivi...nope not interested
The recon is sick!!
Yep it sure is
I don’t see the purpose of the dual grind on this knife. This one is a miss for me
These kind of look like it is one of the Brous blades.
Totally!
Yep. Its design language is very reminiscent of the (Jason) Brous Blades model called Threat. There’s also a variant called Triple Threat.
I'm not sure where Civivi's product managers are getting their "voice of customer" for their fixed blades. I like Civivi's folding line of knives, but I tried their Kempler fixed blade, and like this model, can't see it as anything much more than a cool looking camp chef knife. 🤷♂️
Tracker knives usually have 2 grinds also....Not?!
i can’t stand multi grind/beveled blades. thanks man, long time fan.
Have you ever checked out the Dave Wenger smatchet or wiglaf?
No but I should
I have had the wiglaf for about 3 years and I dig it a lot, i think my next buy is the smachet. @@gideonstactical
I've been seeing more knives pop up with D2 blades again lately. Making the steel hasn't gone far and I just haven't been paying attention.
Awesome knife design.
Would love to see a secondary attachment on the handle similar to knuckles.
Looks cool but I don't see what's so groundbreaking about it
Not Crowned, but Chamfered.... which is a shame.
Robot turds are the in thing.
...das kann weg.
What’s the price arron??
$75 links in the video description
85 gazillion dollars. It's made from Pegasus tears and remnants of Odin's platinum war cleaver.
Looks like TJ Schwarz designed.
It does a little bit!
That blade design is from a Zero Tolerance 0055. It was hot garbage
Hahahahah awesome!
Honey color handle : ULTEM, kinda cool in fact!
Now that is an ugly profile on that poor blade hahaha
Nope.....not a fixed blade in my future.
There's no good jimping. It's always useless. I like that they did keep the point strong but this dual grind on a small blade is useless also. For me it's a no.
What knive is that
Civivi probugnator
Stop calling it a reverse tanto, please. Sheeps foot or wharncliffe or broken back, jeez, we had terns for this blade shape before the americanized tanto was ever a thing!!! I lobe Cold Steel, but one of the few things Lynn Thompson should be held to account for is the stupid American Tanto shape.
Just reading for their specs sheet
@gideonstactical I wish people would forget that term... Sorry for the rant. I love your work. I just have an unreasonable dislike for that term. A tanto looks nothing like what we call one here, and I "feel" that it is actually disrespectful to what is a beautiful and storied style of blade. The Americanized tanto, I'm pretty sure, was a marketing ploy by Lynn Thompson and others to prey upon the 1970s - 1980s Asian martial arts craze spurred on by Hollywood and Black Belt Magazine. A craze that also eventually gave us MMA, but saw made up martial arts and crap dojo's. It was a low point in a lot of things. Personal drama/trauma speaking here. It has nothing to do with you or the video at all really... Great review, thank you.
The different grinds is something interesting, but the overall blade profile and handle shape just look like they ripped off TJ Schwarz.
And TJ Schwarz ripped off nessmuck-santoku style knife look at that 😂
I was attracted to the look of it until I found out they use D2 I am so sick of D2 it's like buying a Ferrari and putting a Ford motor in it😢
The ege is terrible, it just look nice thats all.
I’m sorry, but this is an unattractive knife. I also don’t like the scallops in the handle. Those would create hot spots. It’s not my idea of an outdoor knife. They should stick to weird folders if this is their idea of a fixed blade. 🎸🔪
Meh dont like it
Nope... but great video..not your fault you cant afford to review high end knives rite...like Spartan ronin shinto or bark river highwayman 3 or i could go on for a good bit but
Oh no he didn't 😂❤
Not everybody wants or needs to spend $300-$400 on a knife my friend. There are plenty of great companies putting out quality knives that aren't boxing themselves into a price category only desirable to serious knife heads like us. A couple that come to mind instantly are Work Tuff Gear and Lion Steel. Making quality knives at an affordable price for the vast majority of people is more respectable in my eyes.
Tops Knives are awesome and not so many shekels
You new to the channel? He’s reviewed several “high end” knives.
Overpriced
Sorry Aaron, easy pass.
Same
Don’t bother me at all! As you so in the video they interesting and good design but weird grind so so steel choice
@@gideonstactical I like it when you review large knives cause your comedic side comes out.
That's "ultem". Chinese piss flavor ultem lol I like ultem and some Chinese "ultem", i just know there's tons of folks who absolutely hate it and there's others who love it a bit too much bcuz lol it's "HE".
I find sooooooooo many similarities between the vape industry and blade industry and their relations with China and gear and tech. You prob thinking STFU what you talking about? Machining and metal along with the material and different metals, clones, designed in USA made in china etc etc ad infinitum
Do you do man size knives or just kid & female size?
Just Blades for the ladies 😘
Promoting C O M M U N I S T Chinese based companies... give your U.S. dollars to them.
Last video was all USA blades 👍
