It is genetically impossible for me not to love a Cream reaction. 😍
This is far of being Cream's best cover.... Not only that, one of the best of versions of this classic is by.... Howling Wolf himself with Clapton and all those famous guys on the Howlin Wolf' London Sessions, which is a great album ❤
This is the slow blues workout to end all slow blues workouts.
Colosseum ,was mentioned ,big full sound 'walking in the park 'for me .Leaves me breathless.
I knew the version from "Goodbye Cream", and had not heard version before. They are different animals. Worth hearing both. They were good at teaching Americans our own musical heritage, with their adaptations of our old blues songs. They were acknowledged masters, even then, so attention was paid. LOVED the cover art on this album...and Disraeli Gears. In fact, I liked it as much as I disliked much of the album art that came along in the mid '70s, with the adolescent angles and cartoony heroics. More like an energy drink than a good cup of java.
such a juicy rendition - like barbecued beef ribs in molasses
The main artist associated with this song was Howlin' Wolf. You might want to check out the version on the 1971 Howlin' Wolf London Sessions. That's a bit of a historical album with Eric Clapton, Bill Wyman, Charlie Watts, Steve Winwood, Ringo, Klaus Voorman, and more. The Cream Wheels of Fire studio disc has another blues cover - Albert King's "Born Under A Bad Sign". The live disc has their most famous blues cover/reworking - Robert Johnson's "Crossroads". There is an album by bassist Jeff Berlin (Pump It ! 1986) where he covers the Cream version - playing all of Clapton's guitar solos almost note for note on the bass.
Good stuff! As far as blues rock goes, my absolute favourite band is The Groundhogs. I HIGHLY recommend checking out either Thank Christ for the Bomb or Split albums. On the heavy side with lots of energy, fantastic playing, and a big psych element.
Thanks JP 🤘🤘
absolutely - I'm not a blues rock fan - except for the above mentioned especially Split
@@Elvin_Pelvin I'm not generally either, for me there needs to be something that elevates it above the norm for the style. It's just been done so many times over the years, I get tired of the same old notes and progressions pretty quickly.
A Blues Obituary man here! (the other two are also fantastic, but BO was the first Groundhogs album I heard). All together now... "Times, times, only in the times...."😄
@@robertwilloughby8050 Absolutely, another great one! To me they never put out even a mediocre album, they're all good.
Hello Justin, great rendition of this blues number! Another completely unrelated band you may want to check out is Love, with their classic album Forever Changes (although all of the bands first three records are good.) I believe that you reacted to “Alone Again Or” a few years back, but I know I speak for myself and some others when I say that the record is a masterpiece. However, I recognize that you are a busy man, so keep up the great work regardless!
I just listened to the Mississippi Shieks version. It is not "faster" but it is quite interesting. Cream set it in 3/4 time, Mississippi Shieks have it in 4/4. Also, in the older version the accompanying instrument is guitar and the lead is on violin. You might give it a listen off-screen...or on. Take care
Listen to this live!…..thank me later. Cheers 🏴🇬🇧
Cream, Eric Clapton is a legend!
Hey man! Nektar just released a new single and it’s some prog awesomeness! I hope you get to hear it
I'm hearing it now - my first impression is it sounds more like Bad Company, which I find unusual - never considered Nektar to be a roadhouse band.
You can almost hear early Rush's cover of this. And I don't know why Eric Clapton complained about Cream not playing enough blues.
Yes Classic Cream, one my older Brother's favorite Rock band he moved to Florida Justin 3 years ago about 75 miles SW of you on the east coast to retire ! 👍🏖😎🎶
Haven't heard this one in years.
Wheels Of Fire is Cream's best. Listen to the whole thing.
The version on “Goodbye” is superior imho!
This reminds me that I have to recommend the band Colosseum. Their track "Jumping Off the Sun" is so great, especially the US Version. Check it out JP!
This is slower than Howlin' Wolf's version. This song's tune is very similar to "Key To The Highway", which Steve Miller recorded really slow, but Eric Clapton speeded up with Derek and the Dominos.
This kind of heavy blues has never appealed to me (it reminds me of some of the early Led Zeppelin stuff that came along shortly afterwards). The only album in this genre I can stand is Jethro Tull's debut, This Was.
Totally agree. Love 'This Was' 😊
@@Owlstretchingtime78 👍This Was was the first Jethro Tull album I heard in 1973 (although I was already familiar with "Bourée"), so I have a special affection for it. An album somewhat unfairly overlooked in favor of those that followed.
@@a.k.1740 You heard it when you were 8? Who played it to you?
@@Owlstretchingtime78 Yep! It was a friend of one of my sisters who lent her the album and in the meantime my sister died and her friend never got it back, and that's how I listened to the album over and over again. on my brother's stereo.
@a.k.1740 Sorry to hear about your sister my friend. I first heard Tull in 1980, but did purchase 'A Night At The Opera' upon its release! 👍
