Thinking of car sales? Here is some advice

  • I started selling Chevrolet in 2004. I worked about 8 months in the 1st dealership until it closed up. I then moved in 2005 to a great family run Chevy store that I remained at until 2012 when I moved out of state and started a different Chevy store. I learned something at that 3rd store... That I really liked the one I left so, about 2 years later, I relocated back to NJ to work at the dealership I started at in 2005. I am still there today although they are now under new ownership. The point is I have 15 years of Chevrolet Sales and would be happy to help you out if you have any questions about the business.

    Been selling cars since I was 16. I saved money and by the time I was 40 I managed to save 1 million. I really want everyone to know that your on the customer time not yours.. I've done deals at midnight and also worked 12 hour days

    Knowing your product is such great advice. How can you sell something you don’t know inside and out? I’ve taken too many test drives where I know much more than salesperson. I’ll ask softball vehicle feature questions to make conversation and they have no idea-or even worse, they guess at an answer. I joke with my wife that salesperson was only there to make sure I don’t steal the car. :)
    I admire your “just do the right thing” attitude. Keep up the great videos.

    • @DaveBsellsChevy
      @DaveBsellsChevy  Před 4 lety +3

      Thanks for watching Jeff. I see it even in my own store. certain salespeople won't take the time to learn new products.. the worst thing a salesman can do is guess at an answer. Better to just say you don't know and find the answer online.

      Funny, I did notice in one of your videos a passing comment regarding the other "half of the sales staff." But to be honest, I probably could have guessed not everyone at dealership had your work ethic. Maybe the other half will come around...maybe. :)

      @DaveBsellsChevy  Před 3 lety +5

      Yes, I agree.. that's old school sales. All you have to do these days is know the product and have your clients best interests at heart.

    • @Souixta25
      @Souixta25 Před rokem +3

      To be fair. Andy wants you to dominate your competition, not your customers. He expresses the reason most car salesmen suck is because they don't care, don't learn their product, and don't provide exceptional service. He's stated that if you're not in car sales to actually HELP customers, then you're in it for the wrong reasons. People often mistranslate the message because of the messenger it's coming from.

    When I was in the 3rd grade I told people I wanted to be a car dealer. I still love cars, get excited about the new models, and love just sitting in a new car. However, later in life I learned I'm not a good salesman. My brain always wants to tell people they don't need what I'm selling. Hell, I can't even talk myself into buying a new car and I'm driving a 20-year-old Toyota. I've got the resources to pay cash for a brand new car and can't convince myself to do it. So, I somewhat envy you that you have a job you love and you're good enough at it to be in it for 15 years.

    • @DaveBsellsChevy
      @DaveBsellsChevy  Před 4 lety +2

      One of the first lessons I learned that helped me out the most was "Don't think for your customers".... I look at my job more as a reporter, I report the facts about the vehicles, the numbers, and everything else involved. At that point it is up to the customer to decide to buy. Also, you always have to remember that in almost every case the customer comes to you. I do very little if any cold calling trying to get clients in to buy.

    Excellent advice! But you mentioned high end cars. Don’t you need experience before you can sell high end cars? The ads on indeed require extensive experience. However, I do have a Subaru dealership nearby on Staten Island. It’s approximately 20 mins from my home and I own a Subaru Forester. I also own a high end car, but my Subaru is a fantastic car with tremendous power. I do hate the crash assist feature because it’s too touchy but it’s an added protective feature. Aside from that, the car is a beast in the snow! So you’re right, you need to take a job with a company you like. Lastly, I worked real estate. A different animal but like you said, save your money, customer service, pricing and so on. It’s a learning game. And being a former teacher I think I can educate people on products. Thanks again! Stay safe out there. And if I ever plan on buying a Chevy or know someone who is thinking of buying or leasing one, I’ll send them your way.

      If you like cars and like talking to people I'd say find a dealership with a good reputation and give it a shot. Money depends on the pay plan and how much you sell. My first full year in the business with no experience I pulled 65k. That's here in North Jersey where there is a very large population. depending on where you live can make a difference too.

    Bro, you are looking at the camera the entire time. That’s illegal. It’s called distractive driving. You are making the car salesmen vide that people assume. They assume we constantly lie.

      No degree needed.. Sales is mostly on the job training as you go.

    I love watching these green peas giving advice on the car sales biz. LMAO.
    I've sold for 20 yrs, new & used. This biz has nothing to do with product, where you live etc..It is all about "The People"! Period.
    I sell circles around these little know it alls. I've seen people like this dude in the video come & go; they're all fired up for a while until hard times hit; then they quit and wind up selling appliances at Best Buy. It'sa marathon folks, not a sprint if you want to sell cars.

      @@DaveBsellsChevy No thanks. I learned long ago to stop drinking the koolaid aid and continue to sell cars. Every few yrs some guy comes along to tell us a *new* way to sell more cars. Seen it a hundred times. Look forward to your posts 20 yrs from now. Verde, Ziglar, Cardone..pick what works, make it your own and be successful. Most of these videos are from people who want their 15 mins of fame.
