- The following video is my rankings of each of the 32 goal horns used during the 2021-22 National Hockey League regular season. This is entirely based upon my opinions. You are more than welcome to disagree with me. Please leave your comments below if you agree or disagree with any particular ranking. Enjoy!
Methodology:
Goal horns were scored on a scale from 1-10 in each of the following categories. Each category is weighted accordingly:
1) Horn (x5)
2) Goal Song (x3)
3) Special Effects/Crowd Participation (x2)

As a Bruins fan I hope our goal horn and song combination never changes. Longest active combo in the NHL.
I absolutely agree with Dallas being #1! They’re my second team mainly because of that. I still like Tyler Seguin as well.

Idk if you know this, but Crowd Chant is a song written by Joe Satriani. He grew up on Long Island and has done multiple shows at Nassau Coliseum (Islanders old arena) and the song was selected because Long Island sports wanted to represent the Long Island guy. The Long Island Lizards used to do the same thing before the league went under as did the New York Dragons.

I love the Kraken's ferry type goal horn. Even the song "Lithium" by Nirvana fits well because I love '90s alternate rock and grunge made by Seattle bands.

Arizona's got such a good goal horn. I love it, I grew up with it, and boy.. I wish we heard it more often.
I'm not a Coyotes fan, but I use yalls goal horn as my alarm ring tone. It definitely wakes you up.

The horns with harmonizing sounds are the best, 3:40 Buffalo Sabres, 8:40 Chicago Blackhawks, 9:20 Pittsburgh Penguins, 10:20 Nashville Predators, and 10:40 Dallas Stars. Followed by the marine type horns, (i.e. San Jose Sharks, Seattle Kraken).

I went to my first wild game yesterday and I’m not much of a hockey fan but when I heard their goal horn and all the fans going nuts it really got me into the game. Absolutely electric atmosphere! Go wild.

I love the preds and flames
I'm a Rangers fan, so I'm biased, but you hit the nail on the head about their goal song. It's such a great song, and the crowd really gets into it. They've been using it for almost 30 years, and it still stands the test of time. Hope they never change it!
As for the horns themselves, completely ignoring everything else, here's my top 5:
1) Buffalo - It's a shame they've been so bad for so long, would love to hear that epic horn in the playoffs again!
2) Carolina - They don't blast it as long as they used to, but in-person, it's so loud and incredible. So glad they brought it with them from Hartford!
3) Dallas - Totally agree with your assessment of this horn, and bonus points for them blasting it one time for the goal # that was scored.
4) Nashville - Another solid horn, love this style of horn!
5) Chicago - The first NHL goal horn is still one of the best.
As a Canes fan I have to admit, the Rangers goal song and crowd chants are awe inspiring. But the horn to me sounds a tiny bit too “pitchy” (sorry).
My top 5 would personally have to be
1) Dallas (sounds very unique and powerful and I love the crowd chants and the music just screams Texas)
2) Minnesota (love how unique and loud the horn sounds)
3) Pittsburgh (The horn sounds good to my ears and the goal song describes the personality of Yinzers perfectly)
4) Florida (Personally one of my favorite sounding horns on my ears and I like the cat growl)
5) A three way tie between the Rangers, Calgary and Carolina (very unique sounding horns on their own, Rangers have probably one of the best goal songs and crowd chants, Calgary has a very nice nostalgic goal song and Carolina has a super loud and appealing sounding horn in my opinion)

Fun fact: the Avs goal song started here in the UK in darts. When the top 16 players broke away from the BDO to form what’s now called the PDC, the sport of darts started getting more televised tournaments again. Unlike televised BDO tournaments, PDC televised tournaments featured regular breaks in coverage (usually after each set played) and they started playing Chase the Sun after matches and at the start of each break in play. After a while, fans started chanting “Hey hey hey” roughly in the mid 2000s and the recording used for the Avs goal song sounds like a recording of Chase the Sun with UK darts fans chanting Hey Hey Hey, possibly from either the 2009 or 2011 world darts championship final from the Alexandra Palace. It’s definitely a recording from the PDC darts fans at Alexandra Palace anyway. There’s many videos of darts coverage from the Alexandra Palace here.

I love when you guys chant "You Suck" lol. They were always the loudest for Corey Crawford.
This is a great video! Really liked the thought that went into analyzing all of the details. Personally, I really love the way the Kraken’s horn sounds. Love the extra sound bits for the Panthers, Yotes, and Jets as well! Very disappointed by my Hurricanes, we need to step our game up.

I was literally searching for this style video last week, thanks CZcams algorithms. (Also my Rangers are ranked too low IMO) should be top 5. Great video
When I saw that you were also grading special effects, I figured the Flames would be pretty high up. I'd like to point out that not only does fire come out of the scoreboard, they also have big boxes that hang over each end of the ice that spews a huge ball of fire for each goal.
While I do wish they kept their previous goal song, TNT isn't bad. I just feel the previous song had more crowd participation with the "whoa ohs", the chorus "I'm on fire" made a lot of sense, and I felt like the drums made for one of the best goal horn/song combos in the entire league.
Does anyone else actually enjoy Carolina's horn because of its eerieness? Reminds me of a distant ship in a foggy bay. Plus its the former Whalers horn, so it has history. Not my favorite but I like it.

It's easily one of the best horns in the league! It just sounds so muted/quiet on TV, but in person it's nice and loud. I just wish they'd blast it longer, like they did during the '02 Cup run.
I love the goal song. Gives me a great vibe personally after they score and skate back to the bench

Yeah, I'm gonna be moving to Washington from Arizona. Imagine how I'm feeling about going from a tiny guys team to the big guy team. I grew up with the yotes and now I gotta get used to Kraken.
I love the stars goal horn it’s what I grew up on and plus it was written and performed by the Heavy Metal Band Pantera in 1999

Since they moved the horn it sounds a little “compressed”
I still agree with the ranking but I feel the score could’ve been brought down because of that reason

The Tesla coils really do stand out in Amalie Arena. I only with they incorporated more thundering sounds. But I also appreciate the cruise ship horn.

Fun fact: The New York rangers goal horn is actually based off of a fire truck, this is actually the reasoning as to why this is has an audio recording. Because they couldn’t find the correct type of horn to match with it, so they recorded it and mashed it with the song.
The ducks' goal horn is amazing. The first time I heard it in person I was shook by how loud it was. I think it's awesome personally

The stars do have special effects. The stage for the ice girls/cheerleaders shoots out smoke during a goal and the star shoots out smoke during a goal

I don't know what the Edmonton celebration looks like, and the song isn't so hot, but that horn gives me friggin' goosebumps. It's shrill and insistent and discordant. Love it. Definitely deserves to be higher on the list for that alone.

I feel like Columbus should be higher. The goal horn is generic but fits for the team in my opinion. Colorado’s goal horn is badass, but it lacks in sfx and goal song. Good catch. All in all, solid work again.
As a Stars fan I wont disagree and admit my bias. But I think its objectively better than all of em. The horn itself just rings true and team song just flows perfectly.. Having been to many home games its a goal scoring atmosphere 2nd to none.
I like the hurricanes tbh, to me it's supposed to be eerie and creepy sounding because I mean, hurricanes.

As an Oilers fan my favourite goal horn is the calgary flames goal horn

The Flyers used to use the same horn as Calgary too. Wish they still kept that one, it's better than the boring one that they use now, and so many others use.
I’m a Red Wings fan living in St. Louis and I don’t disagree with you. Their goal horn at the Joe was an iconic sound and it just sounds so bad now.
They’re an OG6 team and that goal song just feels so generic and edm vibes. Doesn’t scream Detroit or the team itself.
And completely agree about the Blues. I’ve been to many games there and it’s genuinely a unique horn and a fun song for the crowd to chant along with. Plus the little streams of smoke that comes down while the goal horn is blaring is a nice touch

Listen, I'm a Texas boy and we're not as fancy as some other Arenas, but man if the Dallas Stars scoring isn't one of the most electrifying, amazing things, glad they're up top! Would love like a smoke machine from the jumbotron or some other actual visual effect but hey, we'll take it!

I think LA is criminally low, that goal horn is just electrifying thinking about the play Martinez made that won them the cup, then hearing that horn. incredible. The goal isnt song half bad either.

also i honestly also think the fire shooting out the flyers scoreboard during their intro should be used regularly and idk how it works do they open up the scoreboard to get the torches if so that would be a cool effect that after a goal especially with doop that the torches would come out of the scoreboard and start shooting flames then retract back after faceoff

NYR and Carolina were both very underrated
I swear to god I'm not being biast, however if you have seen the Jets goal horn go off live, along with the "Gonna Celebrate" by The Phantoms, it's a good time. Everyone's always so pumped up. I personally think goal horns are designed to be heard specifically at hockey games, not at home.
The sound of the Habs's goal horn is stuck in my head. My favorites are the Oilers's and the Flames's.

I agree to an extent for 2022, but Detroit defiantly has the best goal horn of all time. Moving from the Joe to little Ceazar's arena was just a bad idea. Amazing place but the vibes are different and obviously the goal horn is different due to the acoustics of the new arena, which sucks

MSG finally got Ray Castoldi a real organ console (a floor sample from a dealer, believe it or not) a few years ago instead of the generic keyboards he had before, so maybe they will eventually buy a used fire truck in a city auction so his masterpiece (which you rightfully acknowledge as the best goal song in the league) can move up the rankings thanks to the crisper sound of a real horn.

The canes horn is the whalers horn so it has that nostalgic feel...and to have brass bonanza-one of the best songs ever in the intro and to have the low score for the horn is meh-though the combine score is what puts it low so that is understandable

I love my team's horn, the Pittsburgh penguins, but Nashville is the best hands down. St Louis has the best song by far, too. And best crowd participation with their counting the goals out and everyone singing.

I’m glad you gave the rangers a good score. I was at game 5 vs the pens this year and it was nuts how well the song is, but I agree the horn needs work

@@anthonypicciano3803 My first game was in October 2010 against the Leafs. The first game I went to that we actually won was during our last home game of the regular season in 2017 against the Pens. It was fun, but half of our top players didn't play lol. Most recently I went to Hank Night when they retired Lundqvist's jersey. It signified the end of an era, and just made me realize how many things changed in the past decade. We are in a really good position right now, and Igor has been producing numbers never seen before. Can't wait to see what this era brings, and I know it's not going to be long until you see Igor hoisting that cup.

I'm happy with the Blues being in the top five, fan participation is always off the chain at a Blues game. Win or Lose I always have a fun time at a Blues game because of the crowd.

Dallas should just never change that goal song. Half of Pantera is dead now, and it just feels like it would be wrong to change it. Thank God the Pens brought back “Party Hard.”
