    I've had one of these for a few months and I love it! It's loud enough to really piss off everyone else in the house, even if I'm in my music room with door shut. I love the fact that you don't have to buy virtual amps and pedals (as per Amplitube and similar) and I've found a fantastic variety of sounds. The app is great. I've got a Peavey Bandit, a couple of Zoom effects units, a little Marshall and this little amp is getting 90% of my home use. Love it!!!

      Great review Shane. I’m half tempted to hack it and see how the amp goes through something like a really cheap little cabinet. The Joyo 8” cab looks interesting but I might be be able to build something VERY recycled and cheap that would be better. The amp seems to have sufficient balls.

    I bought one two weeks ago. One of my best guitar gear purchases this year or even in a few years. Makes me grab the guitar more often than anything else. Not having to deal with cords makes it so convenient to play. Or maybe just one cable, if I decide to put on phones.
    However, there are a few things which would make this awesome practice amp even better and more useful.
    - I wish they added compressors someday. One Dyna Comp style one and perhaps one Boss and/or LA style one. Under the EFX tab would be good, a separate tab before the other EFX would be even better.
    - Then it would be great if the different styles shared the amps. So that it would be possible to store a BigMuff into Tweed Amp sound under overdrive or distortion...
    - Then it would be very very useful if it was possible to store more than four guitar patches within the app!
    Less important features which would be appreciated:
    - 7-band graphic EQ (or even a simple 3-band EQ after the amp+cab or within the IR tab)
    - Loading of external IRs
    I bet these are not impossible things for NUX to do and the hardware would actually be able to deal with it. Let‘s see what the future might bring. But even without those things, this is a hell of a useful piece of gear! :)

      Yeah it’s nice to have the versatility...and it’s also meant to be used with acoustic guitar I think, but I’m not 100% sure. Although an acoustic guitar might be a little too loud for a small amp like this and kind of defeat the purpose lol.

    I grabbed one of these just the other day. I adopted and totally agree with your approach, setup and save a few great tones, then forget the rest.
    It is a bit daunting to begin with but the App is fantastic and you can certainly get some nice sounds out of it. As a portable practice Amp it does the job nicely albeit a little over the top and fiddly feature wise. Thanks for the review Shane.

    Sounds good on clean at a sensible volume, small speakers can only handle so much before they break up, Thomann are listing at a £150 GBP, at this price i think i would prefer to spend a bit more on a bigger practice amp with a decent size speaker.

    Rocks on guitar and Funky on the bass! This review was so well done. I think this is a serious contender. Glad to hear the previous version held its own too. That one was popular but this one really intrigued my interest.
    With a free transmitter and excellent fx I don’t see where you can go wrong. Love the simplicity of the app. Really enjoy playing these digital amps with headphones for the full sound, but it’s very important that the speaker is versatile enough to handle clean and overdriven tones on higher volumes.

    Good review! It sounds really good for such a tiny amp. I don't really need another piece of kit, but then I don't need 13 guitars. But I somehow always seem to get more guitars, and less often, amps. I guess I could use a tiny little amp loaded with tons of features.

  • @kolchak357
    @kolchak357 Před 4 lety +1

    It’s sounds a little thin and seems to fall on its face when pushed. But I’m sure that is a trade off to keep the amp so small. But you have to love the size and convenience of this package. Plenty of amps and effect for such a small and inexpensive amp too. I just bought a Spark, but I’ll eventually pick one one of these as well. This would make a super fun little travel amp.

    There really coming on with these small home practice amps, Im still happy with my Yamaha THR10C at present but I did buy a cheap Lekato branded rechargeable Wireless system recently off amazon, it was only £40 (UK) but its great, no lag and no more twisted cables to trip over.

    Hey Shane, just got this amp yesterday as a gift and I do like it. I have to disagree with one thing you said here, though: “Top Boost 30 should be avoided.” I agree it sounds terrible overdriven, but after playing around with it, it can be made to sound really nice for a clean tone. I know it’s still a bit of a fail as it’s supposed to be for the OD channel and sounds terrible that way, but did want to let folks know that the clean sound on it is really nice if you play around with it.
    Another thing I’ve noticed that people may want to be aware of: if you have active pickups (I have EMG t system on my tele I built) you have to position the wireless receiver so that it’s as far as possible from your electronics or it can interfere with the wireless signal. I was able to point mine out on the tele and that took care of it, but it even tells you in the manual that with some guitars with actives, you may need to buy an extension plug for it to get it far enough away from your electronics. Just a heads up to anyone thinking of getting this with active pickups.
    Anyways, this thing is a great value and I highly recommend it for practice/travel.
    Keep up the good work, Shane.

      Try plugging mighty wireless to input of looper and use a cable for looper->guitar connection.Not sure if it will work tho

      Absolutely. It’s all powered by rechargeable batteries.

    Does this need a power supply full time or is there a rechargeable battery in the amp? Not one place I've looked seems to specify

    • @stumpagness11
      @stumpagness11 Před 3 lety

      It supposedly has up to 18hrs play time on battery. "A high-performance rechargeable battery is built into this amplifier, which can provide up to 18 hours of continuous playing time on a single charge."

    Does it come with a wireless adap[ter? Or is it just bluetooth so you can also use it to play music? I was interested in the Katana Air, until I saw that it's so expensive! So I'm assuming this isn't wireless for under $200?

      You should be able to put a little bluetooth transmitter in the headphone jack and connect via that. They don't cost much and work great.

      Yes, with some bass and gain I can't up the volume above around 50%. One of the few drawbacks of this otherwise amazing amp.
