They never understand that when they increase prices like that , people don't buy less , they just stop buying them. It's the same with cadburys . I don't buy any of their foul tasting muck and if I get some for Christmas It usually ends up going straight in the bin
Walkers have changed. They often seem to taste like the contents have gone slightly stale. Guessing they have made them slightly healthier but they really aren't as nice and "crisp" as they used to be.
Might be down to cost cutting somewhere along the line, of all things done to protect profits, price rises, less weight, I do think sacrificing quality is the worst of it.
Thanks for the review Gareth. I’ve only recently switched to Snackrite and my husband prefers them. You’re not just paying for the Walkers name - you’re also paying for Gary Lineker’s fee for making the adverts. The same as you’re paying your TV licence so the BBC can hand Gary Lineker £3million of our money for talking about football!
Gareth, I think those who don't have to budget will carry on buying the branded stuff and others will go for the supermarket's own brand. Another good video to show what you get for your money.
I'm not on a particularly tight budget but I choose to buy the Snackrite multipacks (30 pks) of mixed flavour Crisps for £3.99. This works out at 13.3p per pack, I find the flavours, texture and quality "spot on" . To be honest I would begrudge paying more than twice as much for "brand name" Crisps when the difference in the end result is negligible. Just to backup my point.... If Aldi started selling its own homebrand Petrol at less than half the price of anywhere else..... would you buy it?
I remember a documentary about walkers aggressive sales tactics where they basically chased golden wonder out of the corner shops of britain with promises of glossy new displays ect.Walkers is owned by the american company LAYS.Lays crisps globally look identical to the walkers packets but with different flavours.I think pickled onion is unique to the uk lol
I'll go back to Walkers when they start making the Beef & Onion and Worcester Sauce flavours again! What a ridiculous decision that was, obviously wasn't enough £££ being made on those flavours lol
It's about time Aldi brought their meaty selection pack back! The smokey bacon (actually remind of grilled bacon crisps from another brand many years back) are absolutely lush. Aldi's cheese & onion beat walkers any day
If you are talking about grilled bacon crisps , you must be talking about "Lays".. Walkers crisps and Lays crisps are not exactly the same things, although they are very similar. Today crisps and snacks are still made at the Colin Road factory by the Tayto company. Also Rileys were "Smokey Bacon" , not "Grilled Bacon"
I used to buy Walkers Cheese and Onion crisps, but I buy the Snackrite Cheese Onion ones now. They are as about as close to Walkers as I have had before and at a much cheaper price. I think the worst price at the moment is Walkers French Fries, as you only get 17g per bag compared to the 25g for crisps, so they are ridiculously expensive for what you actually get. It's one of the few types of snacks for which I have never seen a copy.

I mostly buy aldi, lidil or asda big multi packs and tbh like you said about the ones you rated the lack that punch of flavour that hits your taste buds but its not by much and considering the rather massive price difference between brand and store own the little taste loss is worth it
I like your channel mate, you caught my attention with that polish canned spam video and I like your idea of reviewing products that would normally be overlooked by other channels. And of course you're spot on, you often just pay for the brand.
I am going with walkers! I have tryed other makes of cheaper crisp but after a few bags i always end up back eating walkers. If your on a budget tho the cheaper crisp are a great alternative
Even better than buttered bread is Sandwiches made using smooth peanut butter and then sprinkled with ground black pepper then layered with Frazzles bacon flavoured crisps
Gareth, another great video dude, I do have a recommendation/suggestion for a Crisp Product for you to try if you haven't already. If you have a Farmfoods near you, have a lookout for the Slabs Thick & Big Crisps range, when they say they are big.. They Are BIG! Tried them the other day and Christ I couldn't believe what I saw! Very nice they were most definitely. I saw a few flavours aka Cheese & Onion, Slightly Sea Salted, Salt & Vineger and lastly Roast Chicken. They are avaliable either as 80g packs at £1 a go or £2.99 for a 160g bag, confusing prices from Farmfoods to be honest however if you see them? Give them a go!
Anyone remember the sort lived OXO flavour crisps ? They weren't around for long, but I liked them. Think they had a chipmunk or something similar on the package.
Yes they were absolutely lush also back in school in the 70's we had tomato sauce flavour and the limited hedgehog flavoured crisps they were very unusual flavour but they sold well. I liked them but nobody knew what hedgehog tasted like so guess thats why they sold like hot cakes 😋 but the tomato sauce flavoured ones were my favourite and the salt 'n' shake with the little blue bag of salt yumyum. Lots of different flavours came out in them 70's.
I have been buying the multipack bags of Aldi crisps for a while now, nothing wrong with them. Another one is Aldi's version of Quavers, they are also quite acceptable.
I think Golden Wonder are the best crisp brand. The bacon flavour is a particular favourite of mine but Golden Wonder is only available in places like Farmfoods.
The Walkers looked a bit less damaged in transit to me, but that could be the luck of the draw -- though it would make sense if they were slightly thicker. Both look about the same as standard American "crisps", which is to say, not as good as the more "gourmet" varieties like Tim's or Kettle. You probably don't get those -- maybe you have fancy brands too, though.
Good comparison - since most comments are being nostalgic about crisps of the past the best ever crisps Tayto Cheese and Onion from Ireland - the original flavoured crisps - and still the best - and the only crisp from a castle! - sometimes in Home Bargains - always online
Funny,my wife bought 36 bag oh snackrite crisps in lidals,I saw there was smokey bacon in them, was eating them the other night and said they were better than Walkers, more taste
Most of these off brand crisps are made in the same factories as the big brands. I used to work for Kettle Chips, and all the supermarket brands of the same style were made there. The only difference was that they used lower quality spuds for the own-brand versions.
Walkers quality varies depending on if its new or old potatoes just like a chip shop does. They also own golden wonder so do produce other brands of crisps as well. Generally i do prefer walkers over cheaper brands. Currently walkers at tesco are £1.65 again for 6.
Think i saw a franchise once sell cups of coffee, they give you a push bike and a coffee maker, go down to the beach and sell coffee's and bars of sweets and those's walkers crisps and there you go.
I shop at Aldi as its really close and the Snackrite munchies are pretty good for the price. I'm currently consuming a bag of 'Melts'. Same as Skips and taste just as good. Think I paid about 79p for a six pack.
I have just watched a man eating crisps and commenting on his expieriences and now i am commenting on the fact i have just watched a guy eating crisps! Golden wonder are sold in the shops I go into , hardly see Walkers , but when I do they are much more expensive than any others. I'll always buy stores own multi packs but if I'm wanting a treat I don't mind buying Kettle or such like .
I've stopped buying Walkers, I now use Stockwell's (84p) from Tesco's. No comparison in taste, but for packing up at work, they do a job. I used to love Walker's Smokey Bacon & Cheese & Onion, but they taste nothing like they used to.
Personally I would always go for the own brand or cheaper option. The savings are worth the fact that sometimes the taste and quality are not quite as good. But it does annoy me with all these club cards and store cards that offer the same items but cheaper. Just stop the messing about and put the prices down instead of manipulating us into thinking we are somehow saving by have a club card or shop card.
I like the Aldi cheese and onion crisps and I buy them regularly but my favourite brand is golden wonder and they are easy to find in home bargains and b+m and my favourite flavours are sausage and tomato and the chip shop curry golden wonder crisps.
I am a crisp fiend I adore crisps my downfall. In my opinion bring back the original walkers beef & onion were amazing do not do them anymore or bovril. These days love golden wonder they are so nice. I do like the walkers salt & shake but the amount you get in them well 😮 seabrooks are good too. Walkers are all for the brand but others out there better and more value for money. Smiths I think we’re great too for the salt & shake xx
The Walker's Christmas dinner varieties were good. Turkey and Cranberry, Turkey and Stuffing, Pigs in blankets and Brussel Sprout flavours. I think they've stopped them now. Not seen them for a couple of years now. Not a year round revenue earner, I suppose. The Brussel Sprout ones were really good, though I doubt many would agree on that one!
Tesco and aldi do the larger packets in their Christmas range... The pigs in blankets ones from both shops are awesome... I prefer aldi ones tbh. There is a range out in heron shops local to me in Newcastle, they are like wotsits but are pigs in blankets flavour and they are amazing.

Have Seabrookes stopped making Lamb andMint they are my favourite not seen in my localMorrisons for months
I mostly buy aldi, lidil or asda big multi packs and tbh like you said about the ones you rated the lack that punch of flavour that hits your taste buds but its not by much and considering the rather massive price difference between brand and store own the little taste loss is worth it
Cheers yes we get Aldi
Bring back Tudor crisps that's what I say!
gammon and pineapple 🤤 🤤
I like your channel mate, you caught my attention with that polish canned spam video and I like your idea of reviewing products that would normally be overlooked by other channels. And of course you're spot on, you often just pay for the brand.
I am going with walkers! I have tryed other makes of cheaper crisp but after a few bags i always end up back eating walkers. If your on a budget tho the cheaper crisp are a great alternative
Great videos, interesting fact walkers crisps best before date is always a Saturday
Haha cheers
To be fair walkers for me like you said if yer on a budget that's different but also if you had a comfortable life its gotta be walkers mate
I recommend the ridged cut crisps from Aldi. Delicious!
Thanks for the tip!
Yep, they are really good👌🏻
Me too. Worth the extra 6p
Very nice have tried crisps sandwiches a thick slice of buttered bread filled with crisps amazing
Sounds great!
Even better than buttered bread is Sandwiches made using smooth peanut butter and then sprinkled with ground black pepper then layered with Frazzles bacon flavoured crisps
Good review Gareth I personally love walkers and only one flavour Smokey Bacon. I don’t eat them often but it’s the only ones I eat.
Cheers Sandra
Sitting eating mackies boxing day curry flavour crisps from home bargains, nice thick cut and good flavour.
Sounds great!
I absolutely love Golden Wonder. Walkers has no flavour for me but Golden Wonder is awesome and strong flavouring too Xx
Cheers pal
It's easy to make your own and they're delicious. Thinly slice potato using a peeler and fry them. Drain and salt.
Interesting pal, did you ever do a food review on Chicago Deep diish pepperoni pizza's.👍
Erm not sure mate. If I have be in pizza playlist.
The first packet of crisps I bought was a penny and a half old pennies with a bag of blue salt inside. A time before any other flavours 😂😂
I have been buying the multipack bags of Aldi crisps for a while now, nothing wrong with them. Another one is Aldi's version of Quavers, they are also quite acceptable.
My kids actually prefer the Aldi one, so that's no bad thing. At least actual Quavers are usually cheaper than the normal crisps though.
The sainsburys own brand Quavers are better than the original and over a third cheaper.
I prefer Golden Wonder in every way. But they don’t seem to be marketed as much as Walkers.
I think Golden Wonder are the best crisp brand. The bacon flavour is a particular favourite of mine but Golden Wonder is only available in places like Farmfoods.
KP prawn cocktail were the bomb. Really strong flavour.
They soon get damaged when they go in your mouth so it makes no difference, :)
Thanks for another honest review 💜💜💜
You are so welcome! X
Cheers Ally, hope you're well mate
Wee bit better thanks
i prefer golden wonders and will never buy walkers again ,ripping the public off.
Tesco cheese and onion are great 👍
I love a good packet of seabrooke or monster munch thanks gaz
Cheers mate yes very good them ones arnt they. Hope all is well pal.
Very deep thinking Gareth the Sage says “it depend what you want out of your crisp” hmmm yes..🤔
Currently walkers at tesco are £1.65 again for 6.
im looking forward to tomorrow tues 10% off my lager and groceries , in Iceland
Aye I agree will settle for snackrite
Try Seabrook crisps. They’re amazing!
I'm a recent convert to Seabrook crisps, bursting with flavour and about £1.30 for a bag of six but can be picked up for as little as a £1
yes they are goods mate
I have just watched a man eating crisps and commenting on his expieriences and now i am commenting on the fact i have just watched a guy eating crisps! But honestly that says a lot more about me than it does about you..as obviously you have a youtube channel and this is your content so u have a reason to be here..personally i need to take a long hard look at myself and i will still be buying walkers crips as im not swayed by what i have just watched great video though
Cheers
I hope you're spot on!
Im baaack lol been away but glad im back,i like the snackrite stuff its ok
Golden wonder are sold in the shops I go into , hardly see Walkers , but when I do they are much more expensive than any others. I'll always buy stores own multi packs but if I'm wanting a treat I don't mind buying Kettle or such like .
Cheers John
I've stopped buying Walkers, I now use Stockwell's (84p) from Tesco's. No comparison in taste, but for packing up at work, they do a job. I used to love Walker's Smokey Bacon & Cheese & Onion, but they taste nothing like they used to.
I've tried many crisps but always come back to walkers crisps.
More flavour than others imo
Personally I would always go for the own brand or cheaper option. The savings are worth the fact that sometimes the taste and quality are not quite as good. But it does annoy me with all these club cards and store cards that offer the same items but cheaper. Just stop the messing about and put the prices down instead of manipulating us into thinking we are somehow saving by have a club card or shop card.
Thanks
Gareth I don't like crisps when there's a pin prick hole in&the air has got too them.
I do like walkers crisps but they don’t seem to be less in a packet but I do also buy the cheap brands
I like the Aldi cheese and onion crisps and I buy them regularly but my favourite brand is golden wonder and they are easy to find in home bargains and b+m and my favourite flavours are sausage and tomato and the chip shop curry golden wonder crisps.
Cheers pal
If you haven't already, try the Morrisons cornflakes against the Kelloggs lol.. if try the snackrite crisps ❤️
Cheers Sarah
Cheers David
Tesco and aldi do the larger packets in their Christmas range... The pigs in blankets ones from both shops are awesome... I prefer aldi ones tbh.
There is a range out in heron shops local to me in Newcastle, they are like wotsits but are pigs in blankets flavour and they are amazing.
I do the same with the cheese and onion from Lidl 6 pack for .99p, every bit as tasty as the more expensive brand names but far cheaper
I buy walkers chips here in Sydney Australia when they are available otherwise we have Smith's Chips one of our most popular and widely available brands.
Thanks 👍
