Hollow Knight- Hardest Hunter's Journal Enemies to Find for Hunter's Mark

- The Hunter's Journal is a compendium of every enemy found in Hollow Knight, given to the player by The Hunter. The little knight is tasked with defeating enemies to add new entries to the journal. You must defeat a specified amount of each enemy to unlock additional notes from the Hunter about that enemy, as well as bits of lore, techniques for fighting said enemy, or even information about the Hunter himself. After completing most entries the Hunter's Mark can be acquired.
In this video we will go over the enemies that are the hardest to find in all of Hollow Knight. Some of these enemies only spawn once or you may not have known that they can be killed. Some of the journal entries are are going over include:

The Goam

Note: In order to see the amount of creatures encountered and the total amount required to complete the journal, the Knight must have the World Sense ability.
The World Sense Ability is found in the Temple of the Black Egg once it has been opened by killing all three Dreamers. The ability itself is granted with the inspection of the Lore Tablet aside the Bench.
** Another tough to find enemy is the Charged Lumafly. their journal entry is found inside the Teacher's Archives in Fog Canyon, where they can be inspected in a tank.

Personally, I would prefer that people watch the vid all the way through. Doesn't CZcams's algorithm help you a lot more if the vids are watched all the way through? Either way, some people simply don't have the time to sit through the entire tutorial.

I know. A lot of others did this as well. I didn’t think I needed to far geo until later
About a geo per second for me, I used spore shroom and saved up for the lumafly lantern.

I just assumed the crystal crawlers were indestructible, it took me 90+hours to realize I could just use spells to kill them.

Also, the fact you have to inspect the corpse of that garpede means something in deepnest is strong enough to tear them in half, which is a pretty scary concept
Seal of binding is not required for the hunters journal but I get what you mean.

yep they do respawn after leaving room... discovered that one myself. Saves having to go down to the bench.

There's also a grub mimic in Crystal Peak. It's at the end of the long crystal tunnel, where you have to use the ability crystal heart to get across. It scared the heck out of me. 😂

In the game it says you need to kill ... to decipher the hunters notes. So they are probably written in a different language than the one the knight can understand. Still its not a satisfying answer.
If had to theorise how. Then i would guess because you have to "kill" to get that entry. Then when the bug dies it's "spirit" as it leaves the body as such is then detectable by the hunters journal. In which case it then adds it. Essentially a spirit detector.... But it is only a theory on my part.
@@nzcycloneI dont think so... I think that the Hunter have horrible skills at drawing and writting. The knight search for the most likely figure and try to decipher what the journal says through combat.

I have shared mine, As well, the original question that i gave my theory on was not the part which was asking about the magical pen on getting the entry. I was answering the other question which was asking how does the Hunter's Journal know you have killed something.

Seal of Binding begs to differ.
The seal of binding is not required for the hunters journal.
If you want to talk straight hardest entry, I will offer the Weathered Mask. Only found in the land of storms. Only available after clearing all pantheons and filling out all the binding notches for each pantheon (Master, Artist, Sage, Knight, and Hallownest)

Hey, what about the Void Tendrils? Those were pretty difficult to find. I didn't even know they had a Journal entry until I discovered the room by accident (Crystal dashed off of one of the lighthouse platforms).

@@88wi If you DO kill him, he still gives you an entry. But if you don't run into him at all, he doesn't stop you from getting the Hunter's Mark. The same is true for any of the Godseeker-unique bosses and Zote - basically anyone who is either hard to find or not something that the Hunter would have encountered at some point don't count but still have journal entries.

I remember being super surprised at finding the Gorgeous Husk. I’m not sure if it is required, but it wasn’t easy to find

I got the husk guard pretty easy. At the beginning of the game, I kept farming the husk guard because they gave the most geo. I was afraid that there were more stores further on in the game and wanted to buy out all I could at first. Boy I was wrong.
i have been doing all the hunters journal entries, but i feel bad going after the ones that arent hostile. its like, damn! they are just chillin!
I haven't seen this yet, so I'll comment it: Lightseeds respawn upon re-entering a room, so there's no need to worry about checking back at a bench.
God Tamer can also be accessed in the third Pantheon and Hall of Gods subsequently (regardless of whether she has been encountered previously or not).
I mean it is debatable if the Pantheon of the Sage is the easier method to get the God Tamer entry. For me personally, I got the GT in p3 first, even if it was after getting every ending (excluding the gh ending) and I had 70+ hours of experience. I still haven't gotten to GT in the CoF 😅

For the Husk Guard, it's easier to go back to Dirtmouth instead. You can use the crystal heart to blast back to Dirtmouth each time after you've cleared out the enemies on the way there.

Or dream gate on the husk location,kill him,leave the game and enter again,dreamgate to his boss room and repeat
For the lightseeds (2:45) you don’t have to run back to the bench every time, if u exit and re-enter the room they will respawn and it’s really quick and easy to kill a ton of them

You can kill the crystal crawlers with the dream shield, and for the mimics you can grind the 2nd colosseum challenge, which helps with the other entries as well as giving you 2000 geo per run
There's 3 in deepnest which are easily obtained when rescuing the real grub, plus one in crystal peak. Then the one in the trial; that's 5 pretty easily.

Tip: when the lightseeds spawn in infected crossroads you can get 4 of them in a corner and dream nail them for infinite soul. If you get 4 in a corner it fills ur bar and 2 of ur vessels.

Ha! I was using that FIRST husk guard early game as a Geo farm! got plenty of those docked in there! With greed on that sucker was netting something like 80 per kill and was pretty close to a bench! Of course later I found much faster methods but this was just one I thought I made up lol

I need to finish the 3rd Trials of the fools in order to get the remaining ones. @ 155 completed / 158. I started Pantheon and want to complete it so bad, but I know I need to do this first. :)

Thank you for this. I was down to 2 missing, one being God Tamer, the other I could not figure out for the life of me. Turns out it was Goam. Now I just need to finish my least favorite challenge in the game to complete my journal.

The Lightseeds in the Infected Crossroads respawn if you leave the room and come back.
They do. I didn’t realize at the time of posting. My bad
Relyea they also appear in the abyss in the area past the lost kin (though only once)
and another set of them can be found at the very-bottom rightish side of infected crossroads

How long does it take for your mastery in Hollow Knight? Also, if you have a stream, I'd like to watch you play Silksong later
I still don’t think I have “mastered” the game. Took me a solid 2 hours straight to do the 3rd pantheon. And that was after two other attempts that were hours long. I’m not Great but I love the game.
I try to live stream once per week. I will stream Silksong for sure!
I got the mimic entry when I was trying to complete trail of the warrior. A mimic is always presented in there. I got all 4 mimics trying to get the entry for the obobbobles
You can also find light seeds in the ancient basin in a few spots. The highest concentration of them are in the initial path you take to get to broken vessel the first time around

Something I will mention for the husker dream get strategy is that when you’re going back to the van she will still have to go past all of those enemies not to say that it’s not worth using the dream gate if you’re willing to use your summit namely one essence but it is a thing is the fact of the matter and I figured I should mention
in the first enemy it is possible to kill him in three ways 1: using the sharp shadow amulet 2: using the dream shield 3: spells

The lightseeds actually respawn just by you walking out and back into that room. No need to rest at a bench.

One more thing about grub mimics. There are three in Deepnest, one in TOC but there is another one. Fifth mimic is in a room in Crystal Peak, where you can find another grub. This room is in corridor that leads to the lift to Dirtmouth, very close to exit. So by killing him you don't have to take TOC again.

Once you've placed a dream gate for e. g. the Husk Guard, you can also skip the way back to the bench by exiting to the menu and then reloading your Save.
Oh, info! Lightseeds *will* spawn before the Infected Crossroads, around the area where you save Cloth, left from the Ancient Basin Tram-station

They're all great, but I particularly enjoyed the video about the best charms for nail damage (so useful !). I tend to not use enough the spells or the nail arts, so a nail damage charm build is a must for me (except for some bosses, where I've used varied builds, going from one around sharp shadow to another with lots of minions and me hiding in a corner...yeah, it's a lame strategy but some bosses are really hard in my opinion).

For the light seeds in forgotten crossroads, you can just leave and reenter the room over and over again, no need to rest at a bench or make a dream gate.

6:56 For the mimic the easiest way to get it is complete the 2nd colosseum trial.
I feel like getting the hu7sk guard would be easier to save at the Dirtmouth bench. It seems closer.
There is a Grub Mimic in one of the coliseum battles. I think it's the second one Trial of the Conqueror. Pretty sure there is also one in the Hive.
Menderbug is the hardest journal entry to get. He only shows up at the bottom of the well from Dirtmouth into the Forgotten crossroads. He only has a 2% spawn rate and you can only kill him by doing Desolate Dive, or Descending Dark as you go down the well.

For the crystal crawlers you can use dreamshield so you don't have to farm soul in other areas
You can just exit to the main menu to teleport to the last bench you sat at. It saves your progress before it takes you to the main menu.

For me it was the mask birds. Since they flew away I thought they were there to help immerse the area so I never bothered to kill them.
Really appreciated, I thought the Husk Guard and Lightseed are no where to be found after I defeated the Broken Vessel.
And I really missed a few entries.

To get to trial of the fools you can climb the shaft that is up to the left of the station. It's super quick and easy to do! Also, I believe there is a grub mimic on the Colosseum of Fools that I think counts toward the journal.

I know I'm probably a few years late to the party. But the crystal crawlers are killable using the dream shield. Found this by accident because I was using the charm for the first time after acquiring it :D It was a great help in crystal peaks blocking the beam and destroying the enemy at the same time.
There's another grub mimic in the Crystal Peak, in the room under the dash area that leads to Dirtmouth.
You could also use the Dirtmouth bench for the husk guard , I farmed them early game for geo. Also there are at least light seed in Ancient Basin after killing broken vessel
To get to the colosseum, it is faster to climb the walls in the elevator above (and a bit to the left) of the kings station, then crystal heart all the way right.

Omg you saved me. I thought the whole time why is my journal saying I haven't completed it to 164 but I have encountered all 164 enemies in game.
I was un idiot who din't know you have to defeat some enemies multiple Times in order to complete that enemy in the journal. And I have played 80 hours in that game without understanding what I dit wrong.

You don't have to rest at a bench to get the light seeds to respawn. Just run in and out of the room. Though it's entirely possible an update came out between now and when this video first came out that made them respawn just by going in and out of the room.

That husk guard in the Crossroads? If you crystal dash from there it will take you straight to the ascent to Dirtmouth, so getting back to that bench is really fast.

About the Crystal Crawlers, there's a spot (though I don't recall where exactly) where you can get about 8 of them with only two spells.
There's also the Lumafly entry, which isn't really hidden but is easy to miss in the archives.

It is much easier to get to the Colluseum of Fools by traveling to the Resing Grounds Stag Station and climbing up the City of Tears elevator shaft. (To those who haven't seen it yet), at the top-right of the really tall elevator shaft in the City of Tears, there's a hidden doorway. This takes you to the room right outside the entrance to the Colluseum of Fools. It's what I always used.

The grub mimic also appears in the coliseum as a mid way surprise in the second challenge
Just an FYI for early game peps, you can also kill the crystal crawlers super easy by just standing next to them with the defenders crest charm on. They can't take the stank.
You can also use defenders crest or sharp shadow to kill the crystal crawlers!
I know I am very late but do you need to beat pure vessel or absolute radiance for hunters mark? I am two away at 160 out of 162 and I don't know what they are. The only thing I have not beat yet is pantheon of the Knight.

Sorry about the first CZcams alert. I was setting the time for 8pm pst and it accidentally set for the time I was making changes for some reason. I will be streaming again next week for sure
