  • Japan at their very best (IMHO), Masami Tsuchiya is in fine form here!
This is the full version of the performance, that doesn't cut out before the end of the song.
(From a certain popular music programme, which will not be named!)

This is so very beautiful and powerful and as I said before Japan had the best bassist, the best keyboardist, the best drummer, the best guitarist and the best singer of the universe.
Is like life made them born to be the most beautiful band forever!
Japan are my life, their music saved me and I’m so in love!

This is included in sound track to every party I host - even now.
1st party I hosted also had "A Forest" by The Cure on high rotation and a room full of newspaper trees. - those were the days.

i hear japan and thought i know that they didnt want to becme worl;d wide huge i still dont understand why they were not more popular than they were because they were LEAGUES ahead of everyone....Mick karn is sick...it makes me so sad...i dunno i just dont understand why crap music is milked and pushed on us when this stuff what brilliant..and how they didnt get seeped out by a clever DJ or some one else i dont know..again i knw they didnt want to be mega stars, but how they were not bigger, wow

David Sylvian said in an interview later that his taste of being a pop star (in 1981/82) left him underwhelmed, he felt it wasn't really his thing. I think Paddy McAloon had the same kind of ambivalence with that role. People have always been saying that Duran Duran stole their fame from Japan, but that's very unfair, DD were an accomplished band in their own right (also, their first album was released well before Tin Drum came out), and they were able to handle fame and being exposed to big crowds of teenage fans in a way that Japan really were not that much into doing at the time.
