- A local Detroit, Michigan resident who saved and reinstalled one of Downtown Detroit Michigan’s former Hudsons Department Store Elevators!!
In 1985 when Hudsons closed its Downtown Department Store he couldn’t imagine seeing these Historic @OtisElevatorCo be imploded with the building.
After close to a TEN YEAR battle with building owners and the city of Detroit after the property owners fell behind on property taxes they gave in to Alex’s request gave him a full set of keys to the building and gave him 30 Days to remove as many elevators has he wanted!
20 Years 2 out of 57 Elevators sat in a storage locker collecting dust for years. In 2018 Alex and his wife decided to build a home in the suburbs of Detroit and they made his dream a reality and hired Lardner Elevator Company and Opie Stark to re-engineer one of the former elevators!
With the help of the state of Michigan and Detroit Elevator they took this 1920s @otiselevatorco that was sitting in hundreds of pieces in a storage locker to one of the most impressive restorations the world has probably ever seen!
A Full video will be coming soon to @DieselDucy and @stlelevators CZcams channels in the next few weeks where we get to hear Alex’s story on his Hudson’s Elevator!

I wish more people did this more often, such an epic custom install!
Too many people do basic mods
This elevator is heaven. The historic elevators are better and more beautiful than the plain new ones
It was amazing
Love this!
Me too a thousand times percent
Thanks
That is pure epic
It was
NO WAY THIS IS SO COOL! OG OTIS IS BACK!❤❤
It was epic
First off welcome to Detroit Andrew! Glad you made your way up here! Can’t wait to see the full video on this elevator. There was a whole newspaper article a while ago about the millionaire who built his home around this amazing elevator! Definitely one of the most treasured elevators here in Michigan
It was beyond amazing. His story was awesome and if proof never to give up on dreams.
@@DieselDucyExactly, absolutely incredible that you Jason and Jared were invited to see this beauty!
Amazing!
Thanks!
I hope you got a full video of this!!! If so looking forward to it!!! I have seen pictures of this elevator, if you were granted access that's amazing!!!
Absolutely have a full video :)
It seems like the owner modifyed it to be able to serve the floors for his needs because he said in his video he built his house around it and it couldnt serve all the floors it served in the department store it was originally in so he basically cut off the extra floors and did a bunch of extra stuff to it
Yep
Amazing Beautiful and Epic elevator!
I assume those doors are spring loaded?
Air operated.
@@DieselDucy interesting!
The elevator remains original after its restoration!
It does
Now that's the BEST thing this entire country had done since it came into being!!!!!
Well at least when it comes to elevators......
Totally !!!
Its so pretty
Thanks
But those doors slam to hard
They do. Very hard.
I find it odd to see a manual carswitch elevator that has automatic doors on it, the only other time otis did a system like that is on their signal control elevators but the mechanics on how they operate is just a bit different than this
Well the doors arent really automatic since they dont open when you get to a floor its just you dont move them with your hands but with a valve switch instead
The doors are manual but use an air valve
Exactly
Very nice. (That had to cost a few dollars)..
Yes it was! And it definitely was not cheap 😊
As a Detroit elevator photographer, myself, I have yet to find this elevator. How did you contact the owner?
This is in a private house. He is not doing tours. This was a special invitation only event.
