- Local window washer, Jonathan Herzog filmed the Front Street roadblock at 5:30 p.m. the day of the fire. At the same time, evacuees were fleeing into the ocean.
Police turned that entire town into a kill zone.

He went out on a pier, then further down, and further down again. Finally into Kaanipali . He never would have made it if he didn’t abandon his car. Over six months since the fire and still no accountability for these intentional police road blocks to prevent people from getting out of the fire! I was blocked at Lahainaluna when fleeing from my home but we disobeyed the police trying to prevent us leaving and we made it out safe. I felt bad for all the people just sitting in their cars and not getting out.

Well, when George W. Bush Jr. was leaving office they were saying that the police were being trained to police the citizens. I've never seen anything like this in all my years of emergency management. In an ongoing disaster, police are to open all possible routes away from danger, including contraflow traffic lanes with police convoys. No exit routes are to be blocked.
In WW2 people were herded by train to their deaths. 2023 it was roadblocks.
You should hear about how the police tried to hand out placards to residents at an event they created a week later (for traveling through checkpoints) The program lasted for 1 hour before they shut it down and blamed non-residents for it failing.

My niece is 12, she escaped Lahaina because of a Heaven sent neighbor. She’s currently going to therapy, not because of the fire itself but because of the people who didn’t escape. She understood the neighbors truck was full, and there wasn’t anything he could do about it. She knows what happened to the people they drove pass! And it haunts her. She deserves some answers Maui.

I remember years back a department made national news for having upper limit on IQ score when someone sued saying it was unfair they argued he would get bored…maybe if they investigated the real criminals that wouldn’t be an issue.
