  • Here's the dual sword build I carefully refined while playing Niohs' WAY OF THE DEMON. The build is designed to work with every mission by being super tanky for maximum survivability. It also works pretty well in Way of the Wise too. Enjoy!

    Absolutely AMAZING! Very IMPRESSIVE build and work and effort! This is why I love this game SO much! SO many effective and vastly different builds for different play styles and small subtle differences that make HUGE overall differences. Your work is greatly appreciated and makes this game that much better and fun for the rest of us! Fuzzy, YOU are NIOH!

    • @fuzzybearbarian
      @fuzzybearbarian  Před 7 lety +1

      I see most people hating on it, but I freakin love it. I've been running the last 2 days with a forged Tatenashi set and two sets of Everlasting Ki on it, totalling 66%, and I never have ki problems at all any more. It's so good I specifically remember the last time I ran out of ki and stopped, because I thought, "Oh, there it is, it didn't proc then." It was so rare that it didn't proc that it was noticeable! Yep, I'm a fan of it.

    Excelent build! Thanks a lot for the useful information about the game mechanics on your videos. I was able to beat all the missions of Way of the Demon with it. The only missions I have trouble with were the 2 that you needed to fight Okatsu, specially "Iga Style" one.

    • @fuzzybearbarian
      @fuzzybearbarian  Před 7 lety

      Okatsu can be a pain, that's for sure. Though I did settle on this build once I was sure it was good for all missions, especially for keeping you alive during the double human boss missions. Most people cheese Iga Style, but even with a good non-cheese build you still need to know where the enemies spawn so you can deal with them fast.

  • @MrGymrat22

    Hey Fuzzy, This Build was super Fun-tastic! I was able to put some quality effort into this build last night. Although not perfect just yet, (I can't seem to roll Sign of the Cross on dual sword and Elemental Damage Reduction on my chest piece just yet) I'm extremely satisfied with this build. I was able to run through all missions in ng++ (Way Of The Demon) at a comfortable pace. Because this build is a tank, I didn't have to worry about random elemental attack damage or cannon fodder from pesky enemies. infact, I was in an uncontrollable state of laughter as the enemies swarmed me with unfriendly onslaught to no avail. My health meter stayed in the hi 75 percentile range. The one thing that I was yearning for was more damage output. If only I could allocate more points to skill damage tree ... this build would be the "Cat's meow"
    Thank you for all the time and efforts you put into this super fun-tastic build and all the rest of the work you do for the Nioh community. You are the man Fuzzy. Keep up the great work. You had me worried there for a minute when I didn't see a new Nioh dual sword build video from you. It all makes sense now, you were working on your ultra tanky masterpiece 'Sennin'. Thank you good sir!

    I love that you’re still replying to these vids. I have a question, if possible; which build do you recommend: The sennin build or your older “best dual sword” build? I know they are both situational and I’m on WotD right now. I got there using the sennin build (many thanks to you btw) and was wondering if I should try out the other older build. I know that one is nearly max level, compared to the more easily achieved sennin build. Anyway, thanks in advance! Hope you put out some new vids once Nioh 2 comes along.

    • @fuzzybearbarian
      @fuzzybearbarian  Před 4 lety +3

      I would say the Sennin build if you're choosing as it's pretty great right up to Way of the Nioh, and even through half of the Abyss it's very solid. However, for really late game I personally prefer to wear the full Hayabusa armor set (Dragon Ninja) with the Dragon Sword katana. That's what I did in Way of the Nioh and the Abyss in (when I wasn't posting more Nioh videos). It's lightweight and although you're kind of a glass cannon, the damage output is phenomenal and you can spec for ninjutsu throwing items to make sure you have distance attacks covered. Throwing items give you extra damage with the set. It's great. Also easy to get and farm, as opposed to other builds that take a bit.
      Oh, and yes, rest assured I'll do a bunch of Nioh 2 vids. I already made a few just on the demo, though I didn't get much time with it. I still managed to put up all the bosses and highlights from each map. Can't wait for the final release!

    • @fujitafunk
      @fujitafunk Před 4 lety +1

      SoloVG Much appreciated for the quick reply! Funny enough, I was working on a Hayabusa build to change up the gameplay mechanics. I figure at that point you may as well be a glass cannon because pretty much everything 1-2 shots you that late into the game.
      I suppose I was on the right track then. Anyway thanks again, I look forward to your Nioh 2 vids!

    Thanks again for all the hard work. Keep it up

    • @fuzzybearbarian
      @fuzzybearbarian  Před 7 lety

      Haven't made a vid on it. But basically when you hold down R1/O you can do two things. First, you can release the button combo earlier than the animation, and the move will still go ahead. Also, immediately upon finishing a sign of the cross, if you press R1/O as if you were pulsing, another sign of the cross will start, you then let go midway through and another one will fire off. After you do your first sign of the cross, you can basically chain them by letting go, R1/O'ing quickly, then letting go half way through the animation, etc. It's kind of pretty basic to explain it that way, but my suggestion is go stand somewhere safe and start trying to chain them like that.

      Fuzzy Bearbarian Loved the intro of the top down view. I've been running as okatsu. Love the female reskins. I'm trying to figure out ways to optimize my build a bit more. Not interms of damage but of utility. Do you know the max % for everlasting ki?

    • @fuzzybearbarian
      @fuzzybearbarian  Před 7 lety

      I have two pieces of everlasting ki on my current build, totalling 67.1% (33.6 and 33.5% respectively). It think that's going to be close to max. With that, I see zero need for more. Without getting into math - because I suck at math haha - the times where your ki goes to zero are not often, but the odds when it does are higher than it won't matter than not. The result is you go long stretches without even thinking about ki with this perk. It's pretty great actually. With 100% I'm thinking the result wouldn't be too far different, and why I don't think I'd bother trying to max it beyond 2 pieces.

    • @Kagerasimaru
      @Kagerasimaru Před 7 lety

      Fuzzy Bearbarian I don't think you can roll it on more than 2 pieces if I remember correctly. I'm about the same % you have I think.

    Hi Fuzzy, first off thank you so much for your hard work. I know the grinding, testing, reforging
    and gold required to make these videos is extremely time consuming and tedious so
    thanks. I was patiently waiting for your video to come out because you do a great
    job on explaining your builds. What is the minimum level that this build would
    be viable, I am currently level 230.

    • @fuzzybearbarian
      @fuzzybearbarian  Před 7 lety

      I think 250 is ideal, but 230 would be just workable if you can compensate for your defensive weaknesses by good gameplay. Just make sure you go all Stamina to get B agility, otherwise you'll be toast.

    • @jdogsupreme712
      @jdogsupreme712 Před 7 lety +1

      I have been playing the kusarigama since the game came out. I like it and my build puts out quite a bit of damage, but I get killed easily. At level 290 you think switching over to this build will work pretty well? I have managed to get all the armor, but haven't reforged any effects. Do you think 12M gold is enough to do the forging to get the build workable? And thx for your videos, do you have a paypal account?

    • @fuzzybearbarian
      @fuzzybearbarian  Před 7 lety

      Yeah, it'll work with a slight adjustment to your stats for whichever weapon I feel. 12M will be pushing it, but with some precise save scumming yeah, you can get set up with that probably. And on paypal, don't worry about it. I'm not soliciting money at all. But I do appreciate the sentiment, so thanks for that.

    Hey Fuzzy! amazing content brother. i just got to way of the wise and am getting absolutely destoryed. im still using a build i learned from you earlier on. the master swordsman mixed with the kingo set. just wanted to ask you what set you'd recommend using at this point. I'm a dual wielded and level 430.

    • @fuzzybearbarian
      @fuzzybearbarian  Před 6 lety

      Thanks man. As far as what set to use, it really depends on your playstyle. I played through Way of the Wise with this Sennin build, but in WotN I switched to the Hayabsua set (katana rather than dual swords). This build has also been nerfed since I released it. Way of the Nioh is pretty brutal, so some people will absolutely need a tanky set (tatenashi/oyamatsumi based build) to even start it, while others will need a ones hot kills-all living weapon build, and others again want an agile high-damage build (like hayabasua). Personally I think a tatenashi/oyamatsumi build is the best if you find yourself dying a lot, plus it's the kind of set that will allow you to choose whatever weapon you prefer. But, to get all the Oyamatsumi graces on armor/weapon pieces that aren't Tatenashi, you really need a lot of luck or to have opened the first 24 levels of the Abyss (you can use level 21-24 to get the graces you need for the set). So yeah, basically hook yourself up with Tatenashi 4 pieces, and then fill the rest of your slots with Oyamtsumi. Infuse Reduced Firearms Damage onto all your gear and accessories (get it to 100%), and between those sets and that stat you'll be sweet.

  • @MortaniusTaijou
    @MortaniusTaijou Před 7 lety +4

    This is really fucking awesome, man! Well done!
    I am actually waiting for you to do another Dual Katana damage build, and I was wondering if you would anytime soon.
    Also, what about a Wind Dual Katana build? Like using One Eyed Demon + Master Swordsman, having a Wind Dual Katana with maybe 45% Wind Elemental Damage on it and the 45% from the set at 0 Familiarity, wouldn't that be huge damage plus making enemies hit for way less damage when they get Wind effect on them?
    Your input, of course, would be very highly appreciated.

    • @fuzzybearbarian
      @fuzzybearbarian  Před 7 lety +1

      It's funny you should say that. I originally started with this build idea because I wanted an "all purpose" build that I could switch weapons with any time without having to respec. I kind of dumped that idea when Maria started tearing me apart. However, if you took this build and switched all the skill points into strength, and swapped your dual sword skills to odachi, then absolutely it would work. I don't know of any great Odachi skills - they're all pretty lacklustre if you ask me, but the weapon is very powerful so power moves like sign of the cross aren't really needed anyway. So in short, yes, this will work with Odachi just fine with only a slight modification.

      The Chakku Norisu build is the most recent, but don't go with that as it has been nerfed into the ground. Sennin is still the best imo, though some of the others may be easier to set up. You could farm the Bridge of Ohashi. These days lots of revenants are using Tatenashi gear because lots and lots of players use that gear all the way through to and Way of the Nioh and the Abyss. Master Swordsman gear you'll probably get along the way, though Marobashi farming is the easy way.

      Just wondering how you get the special effects on your weapons and armour as high as they are. I forged the same dual swords but when given Skill Damage or Skill Ki Damage the % is much lower. Can they be increased if I Soul Match a higher level weapon? Also when forging do you know if starred effects can roll on all skills available for any given weapon. I’ve rolled SotC a few times but would prefer Wind Storm as I’ve found it much more useful.

    Fuzzy, I made it through way of the wise with this build, and it was awesome! Now, on way of the Nioh, what do you recommend? Which grace and in what pieces? Where to put the new levels at? Heart?

    • @fuzzybearbarian
      @fuzzybearbarian  Před 6 lety +1

      Great to hear. Way of the Nioh steps it up a TON. Sennin will work in the first few areas, but later it won't help at all. For maximum survivability, I recommend: 4 Piece Tatenashi, 6 piece Oyamatsumi, use 2 x katana = Kiku-Ichimonji katana in both slots (2 of them, putting Flowing Shadow on one, Iai Quickdraw on the other. The one with Flowing Shadow spec out for skill damage, the one with Iai quickdraw speck out with close combat damage and final blow damage). Then switch between those two weapons depending on your circumstance for maximum damage. Grace of Oyamatsumi can be gotten very early in the abyss. I haven't played for a while, but from memory I think you go in at Floor 21, and leave after defeating boss on floor 24 to have a chance at your grace. Inherit Received firearms Damage on all armor pieces and on one accessory. Aim for received elemental attack damage on the other accessory and on chest. Go for Earth as you element as this works with Oyamatsumi, then look to get muddy augmentation wherever you can get it (accessories, grace/green starred 'lower enemy defense (muddied) on pants) etc. There's a few more specific stats I'd go with, but I can't remember them off hand right now. But I've given you a good start to aim for, so have fun with that! Stats wise, at 750 I have Heart 200, Stamina 200, Strength 101, Body 53, Skill 20, Dexterity 20, Magic 99, Spirit 99. Hope that helps.

    • @fuzzybearbarian
      @fuzzybearbarian  Před 6 lety

      You can answer your last question at any time for any skill by looking at the screen where you choose what skill to use for each type of button command. Many skills share the same button commands, so the simple way when deciding is to look at the command binding screen to determine which ones share the same command, and thus learn which ones can and can't be used together. If you're using dual swords, I recommend Sign of the Cross as your main skill as it is more damaging than the others. In the new meta water sword can be made to work but it is very situational. Windstorm used to be awesome but it got nerfed. It's still good but Sign of the Cross is the main one you want. Regarding other skills, there's a link in the description of this video to a text version where I spell out which skills are the ones to get.

    Question: Rather than use Tsuruga Masamune for Strategist 1% Damage reduction and Master Swordsman's: Do for the 2pc, Why not use Futatsu-mei Norimune for the Master Swordsman's bonus and the Greater Good: Do for the 2% damage reduction and +6 Ki? It's another heavy armour piece that gives a useful bonus.

      Nice one! I love this build and I'm using it for the basis of what I'm leveling right now. Haven't been able to roll Auto recovery on Amrita gain, But I'm using +Attack on Amrita Gain, seems pretty good, but definitely less tanky. Swapped out body for skill to keep my damage up - but I'm not at the end of Demon mode yet, so will see how I feel about damage received. When I get those resources....
      Now just have to farm up some Yasakani's with ele resist :/
      Ooh, you probably know this already, but for those looking to get 100% Elemental resist, Elemental reduction while guarding doesn't stack with elemental resist (or rather, they're different sources so they don't cap each other).

So far I'm starting to think this build is the most fun build I've made, as any variation I seem to make of it changes my game play a lot. Does having the "Defense" attribute on armor pieces make that big of a difference in damage taken? I currently have a mad spinner build using the same basics as your build but I'm using a mix of Kaido, Master Swordsman and Genius Strategist armor. Also, how big is the defense buff when you get statused? I have "auto recovery" on being surrounded, amrita gain, and status effected, and it recovers about 450-500 hp/s when they all stack. Would it be better to have increased defense instead of auto recovery on all of these perks? The only bosses giving me trouble are Maria and Shigezane to a certain extent because they don't stagger. I'm not using devigorate talisman or weaken melee weapons tho, guess it would make a huge difference.

    • @fuzzybearbarian
      @fuzzybearbarian  Před 7 lety

      I think anything, like defense on armor, is expendable if you can work around it with good gameplay. Also, if you are C agility swapping defense for reduced weight perks to get to B agility would be more beneficial. So yeah, I guess it's kind of relative.
      I personally feel auto recovery is better than increased defense on at least one item, as the health gain is pretty significant.
      It's hard for me to say how big the defense buff is when you get statused because I have other defense buffs going too and I haven't tested any of them in isolation. This is one build where I gave up on numbers/math as I made it, and focused more on how it was performing in actual gameplay. So it's difficult to pinpoint things in isolation. In fact, I'm still working through doing some stuff like that now, though the grind today has been so tedious while doing it that Nier Automata is looking pretty good right now (it's been sitting there, waiting to be played for a while now ....). Plus, it's only 1 week until The Surge, so I need to play something else on my drive between now and then!

    • @fuzzybearbarian
      @fuzzybearbarian  Před 7 lety +1

      I kept it on because I noticed I was still getting status affected, including confusion. However, the frequency with which that occurs may not warrant the status ailment over a different, better perk. But that would take a lot more testing. For now, I kept it because I saw I was definitely still getting ailments on me, despite being immune to elemental damage. Poison and paralysis are two that I still get afflicted with too. But, I have also had the same thought and believe more time and testing is required to determine if the benefit is outweighed by a better stat.

      @fuzzybearbarian  Před 6 lety

      Most pre-patch stuff that isn't living weapon related will work like it used to, at least, it will well enough until Way of the Wise late game or Way of the Nioh. The kind of builds you need in end game need to wait until Way of the Wise at the earliest, so right now you're good to go based off of most pre-patch builds. Once you open the Abyss for the ability to convert gear you craft into ethereal grace items, at that point you'll be wanting to do a new build and only the latest builds will work for that. Fortunately at that point it is still a grind but honestly doesn't take that long to craft a build once you know which one you want.

    • @fuzzybearbarian
      @fuzzybearbarian  Před 7 lety

      I wouldn't level them all up evenly. You really need at least one to hit 99 to benefit your change to attack. For me, Stamina was my main one to begin with. It gave me an extra 500 life, so that compensates for skimping on body (in my first 4 regions of Way of the Demon I had body at 45, to give you an idea). With stamina at 99 and weight reduction on two armor pieces avoiding damage is easier thanks to dodge rolling. At a heavier weight that's much harder and at times impossible to do. So with that in mind, then do heart, as it will not only improve your ki but also scale more attack onto your weapon. If you're struggling with that (your play style might be different to mine), then you might want to stack more body first to get more life while you're still leveling.

    • @fuzzybearbarian
      @fuzzybearbarian  Před 4 lety

      It all depends on how much you need it. I made these videos as each "Way of" was released, but over time eventually Way of the Nioh was released and The Abyss was introduced. Now I would say get to Way of the Nioh however you can, then start the grind for the gear and the build you need. I actually tell a lot of people if it's easier to co-op all the way to Way of the Nioh then do that. There's a big grind from WoTN through The Abyss, and the best gear in the game is there. But if you need the gear now make the build now for sure, but don't soul match it later. It's too costly. You'll just have to upgrade it later with better gear. Re investing over 99, I don't think it really matters where you invest so long as you prioritize the areas that you feel weakest in. Level doesn't matter as much as gear in Nioh. Build is what matters most.

    • @fuzzybearbarian
      @fuzzybearbarian  Před 7 lety

      Ah, yes, that's right, I remember now. I noticed I didn't get the full agility bonus I'd been expecting when I dipped to a B rating, and assumed it was because of a change to the proportion of my total weight (the way the tool tip on the equipment weight damage bonus suggests it works). It might have been a change to the innate damage bonus, or something else entirely. I don't know. Either way, my damage went up, not down, so at least my point about not worrying about losing damage if you go to a B rating remains true.

    • @Sljm8D
      @Sljm8D Před 7 lety

      They nerfed the yellow bonuses like Agility and Familiarity. Used to be, an A- would become A+, but after 1.08 they only go to A instead (but now they can stack together).
      But yes, 30.1 or more weight and B Agility will get you the most out of these two damage bonuses combined.

    • @fuzzybearbarian
      @fuzzybearbarian  Před 7 lety

      Yeah, I think everything can stack now. Though, I did have one situation where I couldn't inherit close combat damage onto a weapon and I couldn't work out why. I just gave up on it in the end.
      You might be interested to know, that after all the changes came in I thought I'd do some number crunching on damage stats. I started doing tests and capturing videos of this and that and comparing them, the whole time with a view to posting comparison shots in my videos. But as the grind became way too much I realized I wasn't going to be doing lots of build videos anymore. After that, I thought rather than watch numbers I'd instead play the Dragon of the North DLC completely through with one build, then from the resources I got from that, make a change to my perks, then play through again to see how it felt. But in so many cases, even when I was doing fine on all other missions, Maria in the Spirit Stone Huntress kept handing me my ass. In the end this entire build became the product of me making changes to see how they affected that one specific battle in practice, rather than in numbers. Once I had a build that handled Maria with ease, I then went back and played the whole DLC through again to see if the same build held up better in all other situations too. When it did, I went back to all the double boss regions to see if it could handle those better too, like Way of the Demon Two Kings, Meeting on the Other Shore and what not. Once it could, that was when I settled on it as a good build. And I can honestly say by that point I have no idea about how all my little changes affected actual damage numbers, apart from for the better.
      I guess you're going to keep crunching numbers? If so, I commend you mate. The work you do helping the Nioh community is amazing. But me, after all the changes, it has become way too much effort. I'm going to stick with this build as my Nioh build and call it a day.

    • @Sljm8D
      @Sljm8D Před 7 lety

      There's a big secret in this game that the community hasn't caught onto yet, but you've touched on it: MAX DAMAGE is way overrated. There's a definite ceiling to the amount of damage you need vs sacrificing utility and defense for marginal increases in output that might actually be superfluous depending on the enemy.
      I met this problem in every RPG game I've worked on, and Nioh is no different. We don't need CCD 20% and Familiarity A on every weapon. Actually, you're better off with a less common bonus like Mid Stance Damage than CCD which can't be gotten from an armor set, mathematically. I still think every min/max weapon should have a CTA of one of your 99 stats, Familiarity A, and maybe Stance/Skill damage. I think Weaken Weapons or Weaken Armor are quite good, and then there's the usual stuff like Guard and Attack Ki Reduction.
      Even though technically we can have four, maybe five damage boosters on a weapon now, I don't think it's wise to ignore utility stuff. You're on the right track with yours. Same for armor, actually. I have never felt it necessary to inherit Attack onto every single piece, and now that there are triggered buffs for armor, I'm even less inclined. Even a 10% attack buff from one of these effects is worth a lot more than 40 attack by my estimation.
      The only thing that irks me right now is how hard it is to get the right CTA on a fresh weapon, unless you had some saved up from farming revenants before the patch. I hope they come up with a solution for this that can please everyone, even if that solution is not the return of revenant farming as we knew it. There are just SO MANY bonuses to burn through to even get to a CTA, only for it to be the wrong stat or to be rank C of all things.
      The little star icon apparently means the attribute cannot be found (or found in that magnitude) through reforging, it can only be gained on item generation such as dropping or crafting. That means the best magnitude of CTA isn't even something we can reforge or inherit. Interestingly, weapon creation is completely random so we can save-scum it.

    • @fuzzybearbarian
      @fuzzybearbarian  Před 7 lety

      I'm completely with you on all counts. I've always been less max-damage focused than most, which is why my earliest builds were always focused more on agility/light armor than actual damage. Though I always felt I was sacrificing game play to achieve faster play.
      I personally think I nailed it with this build though, at least, to the point that the game allows without investing 100% of the rest of my life in forging/reforging. I tried A LOT of special effect combinations, even ignoring inheriting attack and damage bonuses completely at one point. My first run of this had more points in magic and spirit (as I tried it with all combinations of guardian spirits too) and none in weapon scaling effects at all.
      But through play testing over days and days (and blowing through an entire library of books of reincarnation, not to mention thousands upon thousands of save scums) I slowly refined it until it felt like I had the perfect balance between offense and defense, with that "feel" being determined by how I perceived the most difficult missions were to survive and also complete in a timely fashion at the same time. It wasn't easy as to make sure I wasn't just seeing what I wanted to see, I had to continually repeat missions doing the exact same approach every time - and bosses/enemies don't always respond in the exact same way. When they didn't, I'd do it all over again. At one point I honestly almost gave up, thinking I was wasting my time in the search for the perfectly balanced build that would work in all missions no matter what.
      I really wish I could convey/show just how many iterations I went through for this. I've even been dreaming about this stuff I've spent so much of my waking time on it.
      I was pretty happy the first time WotD Maria felt easy. It was like, finally.
      Oh, and I am dead tired of Restless Spirits. That was my go-to mission for gold when I needed it. I don't farm stuff usually, preferring to get what I get from just playing, but the game has forced gold farming onto us. That's something that irks me like the CTA thing irks you.
      Oh, and yes, with all the new perks forging/reforgin for the right perks is harder than ever. Some of the extra variety is needless too. Things like more damage against X specific enemy are utterly needless . All they do is add time and tediousness to the whole process of customization. If you couldn't save scum I think it would be fair to say the game is broken (in which case, it's probably fair to say that anyway). I want to play the game for my stuff, not grind endlessly for stats. That's one of the reasons why I'm really looking forward to The Surge on May 16th. The developers of that game seem to have taken a "play well to get what you want" approach to min/maxing, and I'm keen as hell to test it out.

    • @fuzzybearbarian
      @fuzzybearbarian  Před 7 lety

      Correct. In addition to its close combat damage of 7.6% it has an innate damage bonus not shown in its stats, which when added to its equipment weight damage bonus gets you approx 15% extra damage or thereabouts. On top of that, if you use weight reduction special effects on the armor set, you'll also get another 10% damage from agility damage bonus, effectively giving you damage bonuses for being heavy and for being light. So with more than 30% extra damage on top of massive damage reduction perks, it's a pretty damn great set to use, especially when enemies are up to 300 levels higher than you.

    Excellent - this build is essential. I was having no trouble in WOTD until Tohoku. Thanks for doing all the testing and hard work for us. Some thoughts:
    A lot of this build is dependent on RNG. I've never once forged a dual sword with the [Skill Damage (Sign of the Cross)] and I've tried. I'm assuming you got it as a drop?
    Also, you're accessories are basically god rolls for this build, and won't be easily replicated. Aside from yasakani, what else will do?
    What's a good level to start using this build? Levels are scarce when you're 290+....

    • @fuzzybearbarian
      @fuzzybearbarian  Před 7 lety +1

      I forged the sword with sign of the cross. I save scummed to do it, but I was fortunate and got it after about 300-400 tries.
      Re the Yasakani, you will need it. Without it you can't get the set perks. But, you can roll received element attack damage on chest pieces, as well as the same when guarding on head pieces (I've rolled 34% before on head). It is also inheritable. So, you can replace the two on the accessories with two on your armor pieces, and drop the inheritable attack on your armor pieces. It's a hit to attack, but if you can't get elemental damage reduction via accessories, then that would be definitely be preferable. All special effects are RNG, but I think getting elemental damage reduction or elemental damage reduction (guarding) isn't hard. Hasn't been for me at least when I've reforged/forged armor pieces.
      Re levels. Yep, you're right, they're harder to level up now. But if you're 290 you're only 30 levels lower than when I started in Way of the Demon. You could easily start this build at that level. Just shave your points off body/heart/skill, picking whichever will impact your play style strengths the least.

    • @fuzzybearbarian
      @fuzzybearbarian  Před 7 lety

      Yeah, I'd reckon. All comes down to how lucky you are to duplicate the right rolls in the right places, and what max weight reduction can work out to be - if it can go higher than 15% then maybe it could even free up a slot too. Don't know for sure yet. I pretty much just kept the lucky rolls I got in the position I got them, but if you're min/maxing, then yeah, that would be a better way to approach it.

    • @fuzzybearbarian
      @fuzzybearbarian  Před 5 lety

      Depends on your preferred weapon. Initially, put priority stats into the stat that suits your preferred weapon damage. For example, Katana's (swords) scale on Heart then Strength then Skill, so you would prioritize those core stats. Heart gives more ki too so that's a win win if you go that path.

      Hard to say. With all the new changes I've found slight changes to combinations can vastly change how effective this build is. With the new grind, I haven't been able to do the same kind of testing with other gear sets, and probably won't. It took a lot of hours and playing just to settle on this one. But my first thought is to say no, since a big factor here is survivability, and you won't get that kind of survivability from the master/kingo's combo.

      I don't think there's a conflict there, but I can't remember to be sure. Best suggestion is to get a weapon with skill damage as an inheritable on it and try to inherit it to see if will inherit, then you'll know for sure. Save your game, then forge away until you get inheritable skill damage. Then use a whetstone to upgrade it, then try to inherit it and see what happens. Once you know, then just re-load your saved game, and reforge away - or not, depending on what you learn.

    • @fuzzybearbarian
      @fuzzybearbarian  Před 6 lety +1

      Sennin works okay on Way of the Wise. However, if you want to be REALLY tanky, I suggest this: 4 piece Tatenashi & 5 piece Oyamatsuni (get the Oyamatsuni set by crafting 5 pieces of gear and then going into Abyss level 29 and playing until level 30 then leaving, over and over, until you get the ethereal grace on all pieces. It's time consuming, but it will pay off). Make the Tatenashi pieces head, gloves, legs, feet. For chest, use an Unusual Armor (I think that's it) as it also has a base 7.8 or so damage (this will turn into an Oyamatsuni piece). Then put elemental damage on both accessories and roll it on head and arms. Inherit damage from firearms onto every armor piece instead of attack. Put elemental damage on your armor pieces too, as well as weight reduction on them all to get you into B agility. By this time the rest of the stats can more or less be up to you, but I recommend a mixture of attack buffs and defense buffs. This setup will have you cruise through both way of the wise and way of the nioh right up until probably level 40-50 in the Abyss, or thereabouts. After that unless you are good you'll probably want a one-shot living weapon build. Good luck!

      Thank you SO much for all the tips. I made (create?)an amrita tank dual sword build for the beginning of WOTW(At the abyss I was blocked for the 20th-floor limit till WOTW finish.) and its working great, I managed to get till the queen's eyes, finally. After I beat I will do the first tanky build you suggest! My great problem was the damage dealing, I was taking too much and doing too low. With my new build I got some 4k-13k damage boosted by amrita effects through my armor(A mix of Tatenashi+Master Swordsman) and finally, finally got through it all. But is stiil weak for later floors of the abyss and WOTN so I will use one of your builds mixed with amirita boosted ideas. I liked a lot!

    • @fuzzybearbarian
      @fuzzybearbarian  Před 6 lety +1

      Damage dealing is a big problem in Way of the Nioh. If you spec for tankiness you'll always do a little less damage, unless you spec specifically for a strong LW build. I personally don't really like LW builds, but that said, later Abyss levels really need it if you don't want to spend a lot of time battling levels. It has taken me an hour to beat some levels which people beat in 10 seconds with LW builds. So yeah, it's a balancing act. I might even give in and go a living weapon build just to get to Abyss 999, but for now I'm still going through with a katana and the build I mentioned above, which keeps me alive (most of the time).

    • @TheEcletickGamer7

      You absolutely right about the one-shot LW builds on the abyss. A friend of mine is just cruising on the abyss and he's already at 510th-floor. Just unbelievable how strong they are. Hitting everything about +200k. For sure its hard to not be tempted.
      Sometimes makes me to think the game was made to be focused on LW builds in a way or another.

    • @fuzzybearbarian
      @fuzzybearbarian  Před 6 lety +1

      I've been going floor to floor and haven't used a living weapon once. It's kind of been a challenge of mine, but at the rate I'm progressing I'll need to find more hours in the rest of my life to complete it. A LW build might be necessary just for better time management in my life lol. But I'm also struggling with the idea of making yet another build. They take time and these days I'm busy as well as trying to find time for other games too. I still have The Evil Within 2 sitting on my PS4 that I can't wait to play but just don't seem to find time for. That and The Division is pretty good now so I've jumped back into that. Plus a floor or two of the abyss each day lol. So many games, so little time...

      I just grinded (speed run) missions that offered accessories as rewards pretty much. The shorter the mission the better. Trial of the Master is the best for the Yasakani Magatama run that everybody does (I have a vid on this), but you don't get anything else from it like materials/resources etc. For this reason I would do this a few times then run some actual missions too. Best missions are the short boss missions. But basically getting anything in this game is a major grind so yeah, it's grind and RNG and hope what you get most of the time.

      Smithing texts are item drops. So, it will drop for you if what you do is max yourself out for item drop rate and use the guardian spirit Itokuri that gives you item drop rate. Also, the Kodama blessing for material drop increase is your huckleberry (use with a kodama bowl for a little extra gain). I find I get smithing texts almost immediately when I max out item drop rate on all the gear I can.

      the rest of the stats will be filled when i reach the level where it will be doable without compromising on defence or other needed perks that i tweaked to fit my play style

    I've just finished WotD, so here're my thoughts:
    1) The build is indeed extremely tanky, you can trade hits with most enemies and bosses and forget about elemental damage. WotD walkthrough was a piece of cake.
    2) I can't say I liked SoTC - the damage is great, but the charge is slow and it's hard to chain in the right direction. Also, I found out you can "chain-fall" humans and revenants if you hit them from behind while they lay on the ground. But it's not that easy with SoTC because it displaces you. So I was just spamming Windstorm most of the time, occasionally using SoTC against slow enemies.
    3) Revenants can be a problem, some of them deal tons of damage. I used to parry them with katana but parrying with dual swords is much harder because it leaves you vulnerable if you fail. Masters in Marobashi can be a pain in the ass too because of the elemental ailments (luckily there's the sake that negates all ele dmg).
    Anyway, thanks for the build. Do you have any tips for WotW? I was thinking about a Living Weapon build but i heard LW is weak in WotW/WotN.

      My recommendation is to get the Dragon Ninja set. You are a bit of a glass cannon and no longer tanky, but the damage output is great. I took that set and that set alone right through WotN and through the Abyss. Kill Hayabusa over and over to get it is easy too. When you get to the Abyss if you want to be more tanky farm the Tatenashi and Oyamatsumi (this is so old I can't remember the name now) set and wear the full set of both to be a super tank.

      @@fuzzybearbarian Hi again, I beat main missions in the Way of the Nioh with this build :) It wasn't that hard, the only problem was Shima Sakon, I could only beat him by constatnly switching to LW. I'd say this build is very viable even in WotN, the only change is you need to use evasion more. The build is still very tanky, I think I've never been oneshot in WotN.
      I also reforged "Skill Ki Reduction" to "Familiarity Damage Bonus" because I never had issues with Ki.
      And I learned something about SotC: as you know you first sheath your swords before charging so it's quite slow BUT if you tap aim button for ranged weapons (LT on the Xbox controller) before using the skill you instantly sheath your weapons and SotC is much faster this way. I don't know if I could finish WotN without this feature, it really changes your combat style.

      @@slony792 That's interesting on SotC. I'll bet that works exactly the samee in Nioh 2. I'll give it a test, good stuff!

      @fuzzybearbarian  Před 7 lety +2

      Yeah man, it's so true. It took a long time to refine what I thought was a shitty build into this one. After I got this right, I actually went out and experimented with other changes too, and none were as good as this one. I'm still happy with this build as my preferred build.

    • @fuzzybearbarian
      @fuzzybearbarian  Před 6 lety

      That's normal and exactly what you're aiming for. What you want is 6 slots without any of them being an inheritable. That's good because then you can inherit a 7th special effect into that blank 7th slot.

    • @fuzzybearbarian
      @fuzzybearbarian  Před 7 lety

      There are multiple different icons, but basically the aim is to proc more than one status effect on them at the same time which will bring up the yin/yang symbol (the symbol of confusion), which makes them super vulnerable.

    Is there a reason why I can't roll Change to Attack (Skill) A+ ? I keep rolling C which goes up to B- . Is it because I have 99 skill?

    • @fuzzybearbarian
      @fuzzybearbarian  Před 7 lety

      Just unlucky, maybe. Or, I have a sneaky feeling that what can be rolled changes day to day when Twilight Missions change. I could be wrong, but I'm starting to notice a trend of what shows up one day doesn't show up the next...

    FB-more important is - if you're playing through WotD, and do forge on gear ? Will it have chances to RNG 200 gear with the +11 and over levels ?

    • @fuzzybearbarian
      @fuzzybearbarian  Před 7 lety

      I've never received anything other than a 200+1 via a forge, but I believe it can go as high as 210 if you're lucky. But I"m not really one to ask. I haven't forged a lot since the new stuff dropped. At most, I forged my sword and a Tatenashi set, and that's pretty much it.

    • @raymondsalgado2349
      @raymondsalgado2349 Před 7 lety

      About your Tatenashi forge? Why would you even desire to forge your own when you may need STR/STA that the set requires on drops anyways, I mean the weight of that set is still is regardless if you forge your own to save requirement points, just wonderin is all...

    • @fuzzybearbarian
      @fuzzybearbarian  Před 7 lety

      Forging knocks off 10 points from strength that can then be allocated to skill to increase damage. Weight reduction on gear gets you to B agility, so points in strength are not necessary if you can forge the gear. I've already done so, and my new version of this build already has more attack as a result without compromising on anything else.

    New player from PS+ here. I know this video is old. Just starting Way of the Strong currently with your Justice Ministry build. Now I'm torn because apparently from many video WotD enemy hit like a truck. Is light armor not viable in higher difficulty? Or player need godly reflex to dodge everthing?

    • @fuzzybearbarian
      @fuzzybearbarian  Před 4 lety

      It's a trade off. If you like to dodge and run, and enjoy fast gameplay, then it's great (I like that). But it's safe to say it's more of a glass cannon approach to the game.
      My preferred build right through Nioh until I got to about level 100 of The Abyss was light-armor. However, the Justice Ministry light armor build was posted a long time ago. Since then the way more viable option of the Hayabusa light-armor set was introduced to the game. You'll need the katana with the set rather than dual swords to get all the perks, but it is by far the strongest light armor set in the game. I recommend going with that - that's what I ended up playing through to The Abyss with.
      If you don't feel like being a fast player, then get to Way of the Demon and kit yourself out with something like Sennin survival build. That will carry you through as far as you like. Once you get to Way of the Nioh then you can really cut loose and use The Abyss to farm ethereal gear to create whatever build you like.
