  • Visiting the beautiful ruins of Palenque Chiapas Mexico! We had to drive 6 hours to get here but once we finally arrived it was all worth it! So beautiful and well preserved. If you have a couple of extra days to spare in the region of Chiapas this is where you should go!

Historically, I find the Palenque ruins spectacular ‘cause of its finest architecture, great carvings on its structures with historical meaning. Though It’s more ancient than Uxmal and Chichen Itza, its where the great maya ruler, King Pakal made its name in lavish architecture in competition with the other prominent cities of their time. He made Palenque famous from his legendary ideas showcasing his great power and richness. After his death, his son and grandsons (4 generations) followed his footsteps and even made innovations in building more infrastructures like the aquaduct to control the water running under the city. His son built the great look out as the highest structure among the excavated ruins. By maya mathematics, It was used as their astronomical guide locating specific stars and planets in relation to time and weather. That’s how genius and well advanced the Mayans scientists and architects in King Pakal’s time. The pyramids were esp, built in such equal measurements that modern engineers are still studying now

Pyramid ruins in Palenque are lovely too, surrounded by trees and not a lot of people around. I'm so amazed how people thousand years ago built the pyramids manually without the help of machines. Actually, in Bisaya the Visayan called the town market correctly as “Merkado” same as in Spanish but Yes, its also a wonder why in Pilipino it’s called palenque ‘cause in Spanish, palenque means Fortified or walled city. The original maya word of the ancient City of Palenque is called “Lakamha” which means big water ‘cause most areas of the ruins are surrounded by water.
