    Tin and the team have done an epic job on the Prado 150 build!! I can’t wait to see the finished product at a 4WD show soon.
    What I like about Tin is that he is very humble. He appears to be very clever, successful, hands on, hard working and yet, his ego isn’t pumped up to an annoying excess. I like that he points out his previous stuff ups he has made, we have all done the install, re install and then reinstall again due to our haste or lack of prep. In fact his humble approach to his modifications and improvements to an already awesome product (Toyota) is really inspiring and exciting. The attention to detail and aesthetics is very progressive.
    Love your work bro 👌😎

    I just found this video, and as a Prado owner and graphic designer I can say that the subtle vinyl wrap looks superb!, a sample of a really good design, love the subtle colours and materials selected, it follows the vehicle body lines. branding is not on your face, the lower black line and red make the vehicle look higher from the ground, perfect for a 4wd, it just looks perfect. well done.

The attention to detail, from product packaging to installation videos, is amazing. Cant wait to see you guys in Sydney.
    I have a suggestion: It would be great to have a refill point for water near the front grille. I noticed an Anderson plug installed in one of your videos, and a similar setup for water would eliminate the need to open the bonnet for every refill. The front grille's elevation would also allow for an effective gravity feed.

  • @tshopguy
    @tshopguy Před 21 dnem

    Looks amazing - I have a (big) idea though. How about a universal RTT mount for the platform or bars to compete against Rhino Rack to quickly be able to remove / install any RTT? That is my biggest "want". That and I looooove the water steps + those side window mounts look awesome too! Currently I use your folding maxtrax mounting board (for the bars on the front) which I recommend to anyone because I have bars on the front and a platform on the back and it allows me to use the space to the best of its ability :) Also another wish list which I think which might already be a standard thing (I could be wrong though) is awesome brackets so I can quickly add a light bar or multiple spots to the front Rhino Rack bar - I haven't done it yet but if it was simple and easy I be down to use them and the idea of installing them without going the 'custom' route already gives me a headache.

    • @KAONaust

  • @seancleary2295
    @seancleary2295 Před 22 dny +1

    Great work. Thanks for this experimentation.
    Key questions:-
    1/ - in the Aus 4WD aftermarket industry is there room for counter-cultural "keep-it-light" AND less-is-more? If there is, Kaon is the brand I'd have hope in seeing exploring and promoting that!
    2/ in that context, prob need to separate out key (and larger?) market: my 4WD is also my daily ride.
    Particularities of daily ride market:-
    - fuel economy
    - dual/triple mode configs: a) commuter; b1) tourer; b2) off-road and remote camper/overlander.
    EV's and LiFePo4 Solar Power Stations should equal the end of the 4WD 12V power installs - however such a deeply engrained thinking, hard to get past!
    Therefore 240V air pumps are a better option than 12V air pumps.
    Ease of removability AND reattachment of elements - incl priority on both weight and wind resistance of lift, bull-bar, awning and roof-rack due to impacts on fuel economy for both commuting and blacktop-only long-distance touring.
    LiFePo4 means greater priority on everything electric. Therefore thought processes are perhaps wherein 300W solar PV recharge capacity should perhaps be considered as standard as a spare wheel???!!!
    FWIW
    (My own thinking is formed out of taking my virtually stock 120 D4D from Brisbane to Mt Dare to travel Madigan Line - with no lift, no bull-bar, no roof-rack. My only somewhat permanent adds were Kaon bash plates, plus recovery points. Great fuel economy in this (= relaxed range) due to "keep it light" thinking - albeit inside vehicle was packed to rafters! Keeping it light meant great handling for both higher speeds of Strzlecki and Oodnadatta tracks, as well as in managing the awful wombat holes on all of the sand dune climbs in crossing the Simpson.

    • @jeyaramanans
      @jeyaramanans Před 21 dnem +1

      I'm not looking to start a discussion here, but it seems the vehicle they've built is more for demonstration purposes, even though it's a capable off-roader. I'm on the same page as you-keeping it simple, light, and economical for daily use. Personally, some of the upgrades will not be 100% used for my mixed-use purposes (off-road and school runs/commute). My stock 150 is more than capable of tackling the type of off-roading I do. Ultimately, it's up to us as consumers to decide what suits our needs best. I've chosen cross bars instead of a roof rack to save weight on roof (just to mount recovery boards and a shovel) and opted for boxes instead of permanent drawers for quick reconfigurability.

    • @KAONaust
      @KAONaust  Před 18 dny +1

      This is a valid point, and to be honest, you've touched on something we do try to do in our business: encouraging people to only get the gear they need. It's a fundamental thing you'll hear us tell customers again and again when they come to us: start small, go camping, see what you actually need - you don't need to throw everything at the car to have a good time outdoors.
      Ultimately, We had to hit a balance in this build, add items that customers want to see. After all, this is a display vehicle, and it needs to serve the needs of the business, and more importantly: the customers who come to see us at shows. They come to see our gear, and it's genuinely disappointing for them when we can't show them a specific product they have been wanting to see in the flesh.
      But we also tried, where possible, to keep it realistic. We didn't replace the bullbar with a newer, more typically modern bar just because we could. We didn't go a huge lift, 35s, heaps of barwork, etc.
      At the end of the day, this build has been all about balance, and keeping the vehicle fit for purpose, but also relatable and genuinely inspirational / attainable for our customers.
      Love comments like these because discussions like this are so important. You don't need to add a heap of gear to get out there and enjoy the outdoors. Thanks for engaging with our build in a meaningful way, we really appreciate it.

    Yes please, would love to see you in Perth. I would really like to know how your concept rear window panel goes and if you would be open to designing a side ladder to fit to it, or the roof rack (including ARB Baserack) and resting on the window panel on the drivers side. With so many 270 awnings being mounted passenger side and also covering the backdoor, it leaves the drivers side to access the roof when parked up.

      @@KAONaust Underbody protection, Molle panels for the inner and outer rear side and back rear window, plus some of those recovery points. One thing that would be great is a molle panel that covers the outer back rear window. Everyone makes inner rear door/window molle panels for storage for various 4WDs. But no one has ever made one for the outer back rear window. If there was one that covered the entire window, it would be a great spot to mount Maxtrax and other bits of gear. I've been thinking at mounting two cross bars across the rear back window (horizontally), then mount a Maxtrax brackets onto them. I just haven't found anything available in the market that I can use to clamp the cross bars onto the rear door (without drilling holes onto the door itself). Unfortunately, I don't have the tools to make them myself.
