      I had a Prado 120 before my current 76 series. No traction control or lockers on the Prado and it was more capable than my 76. Only reason I got rid of the 120 was due to the engine being under powered but I believe the 150 has sorted that out.

      I owned a 150 series before my 200 series. I upgraded for the engine. The Prado was just as capable off-road with exactly the same tyres and suspension set up. The 200’s real advantage besides power is that it feel even more solidly built and runs bigger tyres giving a little more overall clearance. Anyone who thinks the Prado is a pretend 4WD has never been off-road with one.

    That issue at 60km, 1,500 rpm is turbo surge. There is a TSB that got released about 6 months ago for the 1-gd engines 2020 onwards. The fix at this stage is to update the ecu to the latest calibration, and Toyota recommends to avoid driving around thst RPM 😂

    Thanks for the review Ronnie...bringing yet more informative and relevant content to the overlanding crew! Kitchen is genius...probably the best structural idea of the drop fridge inside the drawer system ever....I'd like that on my Troopy. Looking at the chopping boards, I'd guess it's a QuickPitch build...is it a custom design? I heard that QuickPitch is back at the shop in Wangara, but no idea if the original owner/designer is still with the company. Do you have an update, and could you give more info on that kitchen design? Thanks...

    The biggest problem with Prados is the lack of space. That kitchen really looks like it helps make the best use of the smaller back area. In the space that sits, we just have a fridge, although it is 100 litres but I think it would be worth going back to 60 just to have that functionality.

I had my front wheel bearings wearing out at 200,000 mi (321,869km), many gas cap seal replacements, and outer tie rods replaced at 200,000mi. The famous cracked dash was replaced under the Lexus warranty back in 2017. Other than that, it's been a solid family vehicle and a overland tourer. The 2UZ V8 has plenty of power. Only downside is the fuel economy but still manageable at 16mpg with 32" all terrain tires and roof rack.

    Another Perth Prado owner. Oct 2020 150VX
    Although I’ve had the Prado now almost 2 years - I’ve only done 18000kms since new - so no where near the Kms this one has done in a similar period.
    Not sure if anyone is interested but this is my build video link if they are.
    czcams.com/video/Q-qq5C1H9HA/video.html
    I’d have liked to see some thoughts about towing with the 150, as I’m contemplating doing just that - so curious how others have found it’s “real world” towing abilities?🤷‍♂️
    I obviously don’t live or work out of mine, it gets one or two short daily driver trips a week & the occasional holiday trips up to Lancelin or Shark Bay & the Franciore Peron Nat Park etc.
    Still love my VX, use the centre console fridge all the time, one feature I couldn’t now live without, once you have had it.
    The vented seats, haven’t really used them a lot but the odd occasion they have been nice.
    Still have more mods I want to do as time & budget allow. Have a Companion 75 litre lithium battery fridge & freezer in the back does all we need for trips away without the need for solar & inverters and permanent 2nd battery install.
    Will still add a roof rack & 270 awning next. Have a 2ns spare wheel & tyre to go on the roof, with a OEM wheel cover to match the one on the back door will be a bit different to everyone else.
    Might do a suspension upgrade & air bags as the weight increases.
    Don’t know if Ronnie has seen the latest press but the 70 series are going to be offered with either the same V6 as the 300 series or the same 2.8 TD as the Prado & Hilux if the press report is true.
    Also the 2.8 at 150 killer wasps & 500 neutron bombs are very similar figures to what the 79 dual cabs single turbo 4.5 puts out stock if it hasn’t been molested with DPF deletes and chipped / tuned.
    4.5 single turbo factory output figures.
    “It produces a power output of 151 kW at 3400 rpm and 430 Nm at 1200 rpm in terms of torque.”
    So it’s actually slightly more powerful than the stick Standard 4.5 V8 - which few of the “Prados aren’t real Land-cruiser Wanka’s” don’t realise or ever admit. 🙄
    My 2c

Fuel, water and tank, roof rack & 270 awning, suspension upgrade, rear tow hitch, bull bar & side steps, winch, spotlights, communication equipment, additional battery and electrical system including inverter, kitchen/fridge slide (without fridge, cooker or utensils is 70kg as per the manufacturer) plus additional draw, coffee machine, fold down rear door shelf, storage box in place of removed single rear seat. Great content. Gotta ask, with your thoughts on VX v GXL, is there not room for discussion for the VX v GX even given your particular requirements? Personally find the difference between GX, GXL and VX (even Kakadu) are primarily aesthetic with exception to the diff. Happy to be proven wrong though.

      I think the same as you…I didn’t need the 3rd row seats which is why I bought a GX. $7k less than a GXL and $17k less than a VX. For less than $3k I can put a locker in, that can be used in low or high range and independent of the TC

    We had a 2009 diesel VX and now a 2015 VX petrol which has the advantage of KDSS and 6 speed auto. The petrol is a much better driving experience but on both cars the cruise control is bloody terrible, changes down 2 gears and revs its box off to maintain 110kph on what feels like the slightest hill. Has anyone found a fix for that?

  • @gureno19
    @gureno19 Před 11 měsíci

    Blows my mind that these get such bad mileage...
    Ive got a KZN165R with a full ARB Bar, winch, steel roof rack, rear steel bar, arb canopy, complete drawer system, dual battery system, solar panel,40L fridge, 2 spares full of gear on 31s and 120L of diesel in a long range steel tank and i get mid 10s on the HWY and mid 11s around town.....and the 1KZ has over 280,000kms on it.

    • @Ronny_Dahl
      @Ronny_Dahl  Před rokem

      If you like having 6th gear anything above 31.5inch you can say goodbye to it. In manual I have no clue as you have to order them from Toyota. You can just buy one from a dealership without placing an order

    If i was setting up any land cruiser off roading australia or the world 15-16 inch rims max once you start getting into the 17 inch and above you are typically chopping shit just to fit the tires you need because the only thing available are radials (on road {tarmac or maintained gravel/clay based roads.})
    For me whilst I do like the prado as a platform with caviat as long as as long as you don't grace 5'8"-5'9" you are fine to sit behind the wheel get towards 6'-6'2" you get into the region of needing a 60,70, 8- series chassis

    • @KarlEller
      @KarlEller Před rokem +1

      I don't think you can fit anything smaller than a 17" or 18" rim on the Prado, otherwise you hit the brake calliper, and a lot of modern 4WDs have that same problem.

    • @jasonhowe1697
      @jasonhowe1697 Před rokem

      @@KarlEller there are ways and means of doing things, when you are wanting footprint on beach and telly tracks you have modify to suit..
      otherwise you're cutting into chassis to fit tires not designed to go under those wheel arches 16 inch might be passable to a certain size otherwise you are between 14-15 inch rims for air down
      pretty much at 17 inch and up are tarmac ONLY... AS YOU DON'T HAVE THE WALL CLEARANCE FOR OFF ROAD USE..

    • @PP-bm7zp
      @PP-bm7zp Před rokem +2

      @@jasonhowe1697 wrong. Been running a 33 inch muddies on my 17 inch rims on my Prado for years. Very basic modification of removing front mud flaps only. No rubbing and bottoming out whatsoever. You will not clear brakes with anything less than a 17 inch rim on a 150 series prado. Lots of people running the same set up as me.
