I had to do this recently in a Botswanan game park. Adds a whole new level when you know there a lion or 2 around somewhere 🤣🤣
Just started watching it. Years ago we used to put logs under the wheels to get out before max tracks were heard of
In Europe we still use them... in Poland set of Maxtrax is from 1/2 to 1/3 of monthly earnings xd
buy XBull from eBay or Amazon if you can find them. costs only 1/3 of maxtrax and probably only 1/10 of your monthly salary
@@wyc4934 I use then with no problems. I don't use them often they're just a insurance policy for me. I don't do anything that crazy.
The commitment to making this haha. A day of digging. On ya mate
Huge kudos for committing so much time and effort into making a useful and educational video. Thanks!
The old fashioned way of getting out :) A great example of why it is best to carry a long handled shovel not a standard shovel. Also a good idea to fill in the holes so others using the beach don't get swallowed by them.
Each to his own, but never liked long handled shovels. As long as you can reach the centre of the vehicle, having a longer handle just makes them more clumsy to use and really annoying in tight spaces.
@@technopsychobedlam we carry a long handle and a folding shovel for the tight stuff.
@@WesternAustraliaNowAndThen Have a folding shovel for light duty too
@@technopsychobedlam
Agree 100%. Long handled shovels require more effort with your arms & the extra length is a waste. Average length shovels allow you to get quite flat under the car with it & if you’re in a rush with your digging, the shorter shovel will do the same amount of work much quicker with less (tiring) range of motion.
I like the selfie part! This is so true! Never think about it, but always regret
This video should be playing on a big screen on the ferry ride to Frazer.
Have you not seen the mayhem at Inskip where most people catch the ferry to Fraser.
Ripper Ronnie, was due for some basic tips, was the reason that got me here. Your channel has help me progress from basic issues to full blown trips where all your tips will help you get through. I actually never noticed before but your content builds momentum for full on touring adventures. You are by far the most detailed and real influencer out there and I thank you for helping us enjoy our 4wd’s 🤟
Have a cousin who's family was taking a three month out back trip. Having done a decent amount of touring (5 months across Canada with 2 kids under three, heap of touring in australia) she called me for advice, I recommend watching Ronnie as a family Friday night thing. They are in the nt atm and loving touring and the Dahl styles. They are very much "inner Sydney no idea" ( stereotype but accurate for 90%) but are having a great time via the advice here.
I like how the title is just bogged 4x4 and not all click baity. bet it felt good getting out of that bog!
I am on board with everyone else in saying kudos to you for taking the time to film that. This is a video I wouldn’t have done just because bugger doing that digging by choice. Haha
The best CZcams Channel with offroad advices. All noted!
"If only I watched more Ronny Dahl videos" 😂 brilliant!!
Ronny, thank you for taking the time to do this VLOG.
Seek adventure did an experiment basically dubunking the tyre coming off the rim myth. He was down at 6 psi cutting hoops and never popped a bead.
God i miss seek adventure
Him and rohnny dahl easily fave 4x4 youtubers
He did purposely pop a tyre and showed how to get it back with some 'spray' and a lighter.
I dint get bored even in a single Ronny video. Entertainment & Information fully loaded!!
"make sure to get evidence that you got bogged." Lol. Big part of why I'm watching you.
You went above & beyond with all the digging. Thank you Ronny. 👍🏻
Hey Ronny, was able to help a lady out of the sand today based on these principles you just demonstrated (4x2 ) however. Thanks for sharing.
If only I watched more Ronny Dahl videos
THANK YOU.
EXCELLENT.
I LEARNT a LOT.
10/10.
( and I ride a motorbike )
From one Ronnie D to another, thanks mate!
#40psigang reporting in.
We got
-200 Series bois
-Toyota 4tuna crew
-Rav 4 posse
-Subaru soldiers
-Backpacker squad
The whole team is here. Ready to liberate any beach from the clutches of pleasant driveability.
Grand Cherokee gang and we're here to fuck shit up and get dirty 🤘
Got almost bogged on that same beach at the lead lights north of Lancelin in a MQ Patrol before you were born Ronnie.
In winter that’s a eroding beach meaning steep and soft. Often if trying to walk on it you will sink down to your ankles.
It’s a bit better in summer when it’s a depositing beach. Yes it used to be the shortcut to Wedge Island back in the day and it did claim a lot of vehicles including the old VW beach buggies back in the day.
Good explanation, thanks for the effort.
In Lancelin yesterday myself. 👍
Great video. That was me in my younger years. Stuck in a stock vehicle I thought could not get stuck. 🙄
Great video Ronny! A few ideas for other scenarios:
- Your manual gearbox stops working properly on a trail. You don't have all the gears. What do you do?
- You run out of fuel in the bush. What do you do?
- You run out of water in the bush. What do you do?
- You damage a tire sidewall and need to change the tire on a technical trail. What's the procedure?
- Your car won't start in the morning out in the bush. You suspect the battery is flat. What do you do?
- You've got yourself onto a difficult technical trail that's too much for your vehicle or skillset. There's nowhere to turn around. What do you do?
Always be prepared to be self sufficient. These are the best vids other than cool areas to explore. Practice the basics.
Cheers to your mate Chris for letting you bog his sparkling clean Prado. Thanks to you both for the vid!!
Thanks Ronny, definitely a committing video to make! Very informative and addressing, unfortunately, such a common scenario. Love your work and it always makes me laugh.
Negotiating backtracks- sand dunes-washouts- sand ledges and steep off camber beach’s.
It’s not a myth having issues with Tyres on low pressure.
From my experience sometimes sand gets in the bead when on low pressure and this causes air leak which makes the tyre come off.
Water - mud and rough terrain also doesn’t help.
*camera turns off* The shovels etc come out.. :) Thanks Ronny! love these short educational vids
Super useful info!!! I always learn something watching your videos. Thank you!
Love the new style of videos, keep it up 👍🏼
Hi there, funny thing, I had similar situation last year. I bogged on sandy (wet sand like on this beach) rural road or I rather hanged with wheels in the air coz some machinery from the construction site nearby did a huge ruts probably after rain, much deeper than my stock FJ could bear. I could avoid it driving astride but it was pensive in the dark coming home and usually that road was ok. I had ice scraper only with me doing 80% of job with it. I found it a really good tool. Then I tried to find sth longer for removing sand from under the engine and rest of the belly I couldn't reach with a scraper. I found some board, happily without nails. I aired my tires down, but I didn't know how to check pressure, so I count 20 seconds for every tire only - later I found it gave me around 3 PSI only. I put low gear and after 2 hours on the third attempt I finally crawl out. I was happy like a puppy. It was my first bog. Cheers from Poland.
This is very helpful. Thank you, good sir!
Thanks Mate! Do appreciate your time and effort! Keep on 4x4 ing! Nice rig....cheers
If you turn the valve cap up side down and push the rounded end (the top) into the valve you can use it to air down your tires.
The good thing about this tip is that you're letting air out at the same rate for every tyre so when you do your count you can be pretty sure all tyres will be at the same pressure when you're done.
Don’t air down if you can’t air back up! Chances are most people don’t have an air compressor/are stupid🤣
@@AustinH7 if you don't air down you don't get out! Even if there is no compressor around at 15PSI you can still drive carefully to the nearest town. If you do damage your tyres doing this it's still better than being stuck on the beach
On a similar note I was driving through a snowstorm and reversed into a large snowbank. 2 hours of shoveling later and the rear end that was almost 3 feet off the ground finally dropped and I made my way out of there
I’m not a 4wder but love these vids. Best out there.
Great video. Thanks Ronny
Haha, "if only I had watched more Ronny Dahl videos..." 😂🤣
Loved it it was well explained and straight to the point 👍
One of your best, your new KISS videos are a big step up from all the others.
always simple & practical tips...thanks mate!
Great video. I wish I lived in a place where I could drive on a beach. I don’t. I was bogged down once in Namibia. Dug myself out! Tide was rising, sun was setting. Great memory.
Thank you very much Ronny. Very helpful video indeed. Keep going 🤗
I like the idea of floaties like Norm Needham carried in '75 to Cape York. A pair should always be carried on the roof. If the tide was coming in, just strap them on and float away into the sunset. Don't forget the outboard!
Great acting Ronny 😁 love your vids, keep them coming!
Very cool truck video❣️
🤣🤣🤣EVERYONE will laugh at you with the selfie!🤣🤣🤣
Great info! Thanks Ronny
@ 8:08 So this vehicle as AWD and 4 wheel drive? I didn't know that a vehicle can be shifted to AWD and then it can even act as a 4x4. That's so amazing, we can get best of both worlds! Just wow😁😁
Thanks for this video!!!
Really good points ,we been doing like u many times bro,but now no problems at all on the beach thanks
I'd like to see the same kind of video except swap out the sand for mud.
Good tips Ronny . I got bogged at the Pines , i had recovery tracks but down to the chassis so the wheels just kept spinning . In the end it was a rock under the front chassis holding it up so your tips wouldn't have worked . Lucky a pass-a-by was able to tow me out . I can get bogged anywhere easily but it's fun getting yourself out but my misses dosen't think that and gets embarrassed . Yes tyre pressures and in the right 4WD mode is the way to go :-)
My friend you are more informative than my owner's manual. Thank you so much for your outstanding videos.
Love the scenarios. Keep them coming
R/D. Brings back memories of Dec' 86 when a brand new HJ75 ute was stuck on the west coast of N.S.P. all by itself ! Good call with counting down to deflate, as use this method and no one does ? V.
Well done Ronny. Loved looking at VX Prado as my wife and I are hoping to collect ours later this month.
Cheers
Another educational series complete ....
The most important step is the selfie. Because if there´s no pictures, it didn´t happened...
Looking cool is the first step, selfie is second, because what does it matter if you take a selfie if you don’t look cool?
Great video thank you for the advice😁
It's the same if you are stuck in snow, but if you lay on the snow so long, you will freeze. It's better if your floor mats are rubber.
I never even drove a car let alone offraoding. Still I enjoy watching him cause his videos are so informative and fun to watch
Step 1 for me would have been to use the car Jack to Jack up each corner one at a time and pack sand back under the tyres. Bring the car back up to the surface instead of digging down. (Just need to place something under the Jack). I have done this a few times successfully- and it is also good to do when the tyres won’t grab on the Maxtrax
What a excellent video that will be very helpful.
Got bogged in a short wheelbase Pajero, on the shadow side of a sand dune in the UAE, middle of summer, 53 in the shade...a local in a Lexus Cruiser, pulled up next to me, dropped the tyre pressure down and 'flew' out of the bog on the rev limiter in 1st gear...I've never seen driving like it, he went vertical up the dune I had trouble walking up....
He walked back down and did the same thing in his cruiser....local knowledge helps too...
Good video, good advice 👍
I just went out for my first practice session in my new 4Runner... dutifully had my shovel on board. No trax yet, got rid of my old killer tow strap with the hooks. But damnit, I know where my recovery points are. Haha! Next month's money... snatch strap, rear recovery doodad, etc.
Very informative! Glad ya didn’t have to pull the mats😆
Ronnie adding the washed up piece of plastic to toolkit 🤣
Great video mate. I’m a bit of a novice so it’s good to see what you can do with the basics and some ingenuity.
Great commitment with the digging Ronny!
Great tips! Thanks for sharing Ronny! In Canada we don't have that many sandy beaches to drive.
Im learning! Thanks
Up north in James price a European couple bogged a jeep in the tidal space with it incoming quick, a miracle we were coming past cause there was next to no traffic up there, luckily winched the vehicle out and took all their beer in return hahaha
great one
keep up so other understand the basic of 4 wheels drive off-road basic
Great video Ronny 👍 keep up the great work 👍🍻
You should get an Oscar for that act 🤣🤣
Great video 👍
Thanks Ronny, you’re a dead set legion. 👍🏻
This was a fun one haha also very helpful
Tip for those digging with their hands - the sand around the engine / Diffs gets bloody hot. Take a long handled shovel guys.
Thank you Ronny
Excellent content! Just subscribed!
My number one rule is never play in the sand unless you have a second vehicle with you! Sand sucks, but hay mud is worse when you get stuck😎
How to jack & pack would be useful for a bunch of people. Most people probably aren't even aware that this is a thing.
It would be good to see it done with a stock bottle jack and with a hilift/lift mate (IMO the best use for a hilift offroad).
Seek Adventure did a great video on this as well!
Oscar for Ronnie!
Thanks Ronnie!
Bogged as bro!
This is why you don't drive on a beach unless you're prepared for the worst, IE get some offroad tyres to mitigate the issue entirely not driving with city tyres on a sandy beach it just screams trouble tbf.
I feel like the only people who lack enough awareness for this to occur, probably don’t watch Ronny Dahl.
More like, people who let themselves get into this situation probably have no business driving a 4WD off road..
Everyone has to start somewhere. We aren't born with 4WD common sense. Been there myself drove onto Ellison beach (South Australia) didn't air down because I was just cruising up and back for a look got out and locked the drivers side hub in my wife got out and didn't lock the passenger side hub in, cruising along hard sand low revs high range an pththth soft sand. Went to the back of my Ute to grab the shovel out and oops left it behind. Some nice people snatched me out and I had to put 2 rounds over the bar that night.
Excellent stuff! Now do you have a similar video on getting out of slushy mud (think rice fields)?
Ronny, you should hold a competition where the winner gets to come out and go for an adventure with you.
I might add another tip/advice, before you start digging make sure you empty your pockets as the chances are great to lose keys, wallet and other important items
hahaha going to show this to a mate who lost some keys that way!
By far the best 4x4 beach tip I've ever read...
@@spencerm106 thanks
So true!
Best advice of the week, something nobody thinks of but it seems so obvious once you know!
