    I am so glad that you took in the accessoires for Star Citizen. Tobii Eye Tracker in particular is increasing the state of immersion so much that I cant see how this would not be on the shoppinglist of every Citizen whom engages in dogfights from time to time.

      Yeah, it does sound awesome, but I'm holding off to check the VR support. The way they've implemented Star Citizen, with a huge focus on immersion, really suits VR.

      @@FlitwickGE agreed that luxury items could be cheaper. But on the other hand we have to pay 1000$ for a GPU to get some frames while the Tobii allows you to get an additional sense of your surroundings through the introduction of your eye movement in synergy with your mouse movement. I have to say for me it's well in range price wise to be considered.

    Very nice accessory section, I wasn't thinking about such things when clicking on the video, but they matter a lot for this game. GameGlass, the eye tracker and HOSAS are the way to go! Extra points for the eye tracker as it can be used is a lot of games (nearly all Ubisoft games, for example).

What's likely to happen is tech preview builds to test compatibility with gpus, optimization and improvement. All perfectly feasible in 2024. In the next citizen con I would expect to see their next leap forward. They indicated that would be likely frame generation, but they cautioned that they first need to reach a consistent high performance level before frame gen is even useful. Tests on this channel shoehorning AMDs frame generation show the issues.

    Love the video. I upgraded to the 7800X3D CPU a few months ago. Went with 32GB DDR5 6000 CL30. Should be good for some time. The 7900XT seems to get 100 fps walking around New Babbage maxed out 1440P but I have not played much recently so not sure about other areas. Was going to start playing again soon. 4K would be el-primo but to get the same fps in most games you need to add around $1100 difference to the system going from 1440P to 4k just to maintain the same general fps. That would be basically going from decent 1440p GPU's like 4070ti/7900XT class to an RTX 4090 ($800 more) and adding another $300 for the equivalent quality and refreshrate monitor in 4k. Personally I would go with 1440P based ultrawide. You can almost stick with the $800 GPU's in that case and save alot.

    I recently got an i7-14700K upgrade to my "old" i7-10700K to pair with my 3090 GPU, I got a DDR4 motherboard so that I could reuse my 64GB RAM. The performance improvement by just swapping the CPU was huge. The 14th gen CPU cost $10 more than the 13th gen, but I got 4 more cores, a 200MHz increase in turbo boost clock, and 3MB more "SmartCache". I also develop software and the extra cores help reduce SW build times, so the extra $10 to go 14th gen was a no-brainer. The DDR4 probably holds it back 5% compared to average DDR5 modules, but that probably translates to 2-3 FPS drop in SC, which varies much more than that anyway as you move around.

    For joysticks i cannot recommend anything other than the VKB gladiators or the virpil ones
    Now if the T16000M was upgrade to have hall effect twist then it would be a different story
    Only way i can recommend the T16000M is if the person is confident enough to cut off the POT sensors and solder on and hot glue down a hall effect sensor and do the required step of adding and subtracting magnets to calibrate them so the calibration software shows green when the grip is together
    I used the SS49E myself to do it after someone else said they got them to work, it was a pain in the but as you need the end of the magnets your glueing down to be really far away from the side of the grip and even solder on the hall sensor to that side so you can calibrate it for bot sides by bending the sensor further or closer to the side of the grip
    Havent tried SS495A but they should be far easier to calibrate magnet placement side of things but cannot confirm that
    Use N52 magnets only otherwise you will have issies

    It's wort pointing out that, for those more interested in the less space-combat oriented activities of SC (cargo hauling, mining/salvaging, on foot combat, etc.), HOTAS or even just mouse and keyboard might be more usefull then HOSAS.
    And for those than want to go full space-topgun HOMAS (mouse in dominant hand, stick in the other) is worth a try.
    Also, for its price, the T-16000 is actually a really good deal: If you are not yet fully committed and are still experimenting with your setup it might be a great choice (also because it's fully reversable from right to left hand with the parts in the kit).

      Mouse full to the left and it takes 2 seconds to ramp upto turn speed then you need to go fill right and now it takes 4 seconds to slowdown going right and then speedup going right vs instant with a joystick
      You can even measure it throwing the mouse to 1 side and letting the ship spin twice the second spin is faster
      On the other hand with a joystick both spins will be the same speed give or take a few ms to actually move the joystick for the first turn

      Against mouse users you can spiral in an oscillating distance from center and getting hit is very unlikely
      because with a mouse the turn acceleration deceleration causes all ships to be unable to keepup unless your enemy switches to relative mode and then you just break away and they are forced to switch back

Hopefully we will see DLSS 3 Frame Generation implemented in the near future, and FSR 3 as well, once AMD decides to release the SDK. I'm happy to see that you went over DLSS and FSR 2 coming in the future, and 1080p being a disservice. With those next-gen upscalers in the game, I think 1440p should be the minimum, as 1440p with DLSS Quality both looks better and runs better than 1080p native, and every new GPU released this generation will handle that with ease. And 1440p 144Hz monitors have become very affordable in the last few years, so no reason to go 1080p now (unless one already has a 1080p monitor).

  • @americasace

    For those of you who opted for the 7600X CPU to leave more budget for GPU on the AMD 5 platform for an upgrade path. The single core performance of the 7600X vs 7700X are almost identical. As is the average FPS in most games with less than a 3% lead for the 7700X at 1080p (2% at 1440p and 1% at 4K). So the 7600X will give you roughly the same FPS as the 7700X in this game.

      @@The_Opinion_of_Matt I haven't used AFMF since I'm on an Nvidia GPU, but I'd say it's not as simple as that. Visually, DLSS 3.5's frame generation is stable up to around 30 ms frame times (~28-30 fps) (version number is important here, as most of the videos you are referring to tested version 1.0.1 and 1.0.2, which was ~17 updates ago). Obviously, AFMF will not be as good, as it's lacking motion vector data, but it's not like we don't see a LOT of artifacts from the game already (TAA ghosting for example).
      Latency is another story, and it's heavily game dependent. Most games with DLSS 3.x support don't exactly have low input latency to begin with. Star Citizen is not among the quicker games in this regard. However, apart from FPS missions, the game is not exactly fast-paced. Still, a number of people have been playing the game with AFMF, and feedback is generally positive.

    In my oppinion the perfect 1440P GPU is a 1060 with 6GB ram...
    Ok, maybe not.
    I have been running the game on my old I5-8400 with 16GB of ram and a 1060 6GB GPU.
    And it give me 30-35 FPS in bunker missions and a bit more shooting at things in open space... in 1080P with medium quality graphics.
    But I decided it was time to get a new PC and found a few good (local) black week deals and ordered a new PC and a new 1440p monitor from another company.
    The PC is on the way but the monitor arrived today. And I could not help myself so I plugged it in to my current PC, started the game, set the resolution to 1440p, HDR on... and it looks way way way better.
    Its seriously hard to compare how much better the 1440P looks.
    To my big surprise I was actually still getting 30-35 fps in bunkers and the same in space combat... (with some lag when things blow up... as Iam use to)
    But since the cpu have always been running at 100%, maybe it is not really a surprise that I can't se a huge difference in fps.

I play at 1440P and it's actually been great with all the latest AAA titles. Only exception is Star Citizen. I know server performance is the biggest limiter at the moment, but large draw-call areas are pulling the frames down to the low 30's. I think I've squeezed every last bit of value out of my rig and I think I will donate it at some point when I build new end of this year. (I'm keeping my GPU but might throw in the 2080Ti I upgraded from) There's something to be said about keeping electronics and computers for a very long time. It's difficult to resist getting the latest and greatest every year but it's not necessary. Any rig you build today (considering you didn't do a strictly-budget build) will last well into the SQ42 release cycle. Just keep in mind the tips given in the video and get the best CPU/GPU/Ram combo you can afford now, as it really does go a long way towards remaining relevant years down the road.

    Nicely put together. I would like to say though as I built my pc early 2023 the 7950X3d 64Gb RAM @6000 with a RTX4090 is still in date top end and looking at it will be for another year lol for once.
    but it would cost less now. still running a 1440p 32" monitor but I keep an eye on the monitors coming out I don't want a 49" Ultrawide but I also don't want to loose too much hight so a 34" wide isnt it either a 38 -40 " would be the sweet spot I think 4K Q Oled ? not sure as long as you hide the task bar it should be ok

    Im playing the PU in 1440p at 60fps just fine. Spec: i5-11400f (power limit removed), 6800xt, 16gb RAM at 3200mhz. SSD ofcourse. This was a budget ish build. I may add an extra 16gb of RAM but its fine for me playing the PU atm. Im waiting on a more polished PU in the future perhaps two years from now but i would not recommend going all out to buy a pc for SC whatsoever atm. Its just way way too early.

    Def agree on resolution! Play at 1440p with a 6600XT which can run a little low on fps but it looks much better than 1080p so worth it. Hoping to upgrade soonish though for a smoother experience, just not sure what to get. Intel seems to be winning the ray tracing battle rn but AMD is my go to.

      @@MrAnimescrazy I went 7800XT, about 30% cheaper than 4070 where I live. Running around 60fps @1440 on high settings.

    I'm struggling. I want a new PC, now. If I buy a PC, it's to get the best possible performance for Squadron 42 (and other things). I have been waiting 11 damn years for this game. Seeing the subpar performance in their own demos has me worried. I know it will get optimized, but how much? I want to be confident in the performance and GPU prices are getting ridiculous, even for me. So I think I'll be waiting until 4.0 or a date for Squadron42. So maybe next year. I still have good performance except in cities. But I want great performance now, lol.

    • @tenpoundfortytwo
      @tenpoundfortytwo  Před 9 měsíci

      Yeah it's a really tricky one. Waiting a year is a pretty good shout for SQ42- there should be new cpu's and gpus. I suppose it depends on how much you play now!

    This is a great summary! Would the 4060 TI be a good value investment for someone playing at 1080p who *may* want to dabble with 1440p, with a Ryzen 7 7800X3D and 32GB of DDR5 @ 5600 ? Trying to keep to a budget and the GPU is really bumping up the price. 4070 range is tempting, but is it necessary?

    • @tenpoundfortytwo
      @tenpoundfortytwo  Před 13 dny

      Hi! It's a tricky one! Now that SC has dlss running at 1080p or even 1440p should be no problem for these cards going forward. The 16gb model would probably be a decent longer term option- not sure I'd want to go for the 8gb model (other games will already use all the vram and it's hard to know what SC will use in the future).

    Used this video to help build my new rig and it is AWESOME! Thank You! (I liked and subbed) I Had a question, though, what are your recommendations for the best Star Citizen graphics settings for high-end PCs?

    • @tenpoundfortytwo
      @tenpoundfortytwo  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Glad it was helpful! Ultimately the best way to make the game look better is to play at a high resolution. The clouds are the only real thing that change performance right now- but for most people I would recommend sticking to medium. CIG have said they will provide more graphics options at some point- but that was a while ago!

  • @Accuracy158
    @Accuracy158 Před 9 měsíci

    I wouldn't be comfortable talking about GPUs and Star Citizen at all at this point in time. Pyro seems to put a much heavier work load on the GPU, ray tracing is coming, and CIG talking a lot about offloading tasks from the CPU onto the GPU.

    Nice build and reminds me of mine. I've always been an AMD fan myself, but with the 6900 I'm using the Adreneline software is buggy at times.
    Asrock x570 taichi
    Ryzen 9 5900 xt with liquid cooled triple fan
    Asus rog strix rx 6900 xt liquid cooled
    M.2 ssd
    128 gig ddr4 3200
    Love my setup, and although not top of the line, there is no need to really upgrade. The most I do with it anymore is watch TV and very occasionally play Star Citizen or Battletech. I don't really play games anymore and as considering giv8ng it to 9ne of my nephews.
    The case is nice too. It's a Corsair iCUE tempered glass one, I believe it's the 5000 series one, but honestly I would never get another one that is all tempered tinted glass... I shattered a panel on day one and had to order a replacement. Be very careful setting them anywhere lol.

    I appreciate your videos, but I wish you could have focused more on Vulkan, it's current path in SC and likely positive impacts for performance on current-day systems running the game.
    If indeed Vulkan brings in efficiencies in performance, it may be a more relevant look in consideration regarding existing systems and the need for upgrade.

    • @tenpoundfortytwo
      @tenpoundfortytwo  Před 9 měsíci

      Yeah I did mention it but maybe underplayed it. I know a lot of people are hoping that it will bring big performance improvements- but I'm not sure. I think we'll have to wait and see how much it helps. I don't think it would drastically change any recommendations in this video

    In all honesty, if you are building a pc BECAUSE of star citizen, you should definitely wait for sq42 release. It's always been "one year away" since its announcement. I think it's finally in sight, but it's still not worth buying a high-end pc solely for it. Good video very helpful.

    Big disclaimers on this video CPU bound only at lower resolutions, 4k its a non issue. Ecores on intel are non issue with Win11, only Win10 will you get stutters with them on.
