The Gods have answered my prayers and delivering another camping in the heavy rain experience. We pitched up very early before the yellow warning for bad weather occurred - lasting around 12 hours - and spent the evening under the tarp. There was a warning for wind, but we were in a hidden little spot. It was a brilliant Scottish wild camp, the wilderness was gorgeous, the colours were plentiful and vibrant, and we have the entire area to ourselves. Thankfully it was also a warm night given the time of the year with temperatures in double figures all night! The Vango MTN F10 lived up to it's expectations and I am absolutely delighted to have it. Thank you everyone for making this dream come true! I hope you enjoy this wet camping experience :)

it is a bit of a bugger when the actual day you can get off out into the countryside it is lashing down sods law when you get back to the car the sun shows its self and the rain clouds are all gone .

High anxiety levels watching this one. New tent, all that grass and you pitch over a loose stone path, I was waiting for your bathtub floor to rip. High tension pitching lol.
I've pitched in far worse than that. Bathtubs are notoriously strong and it takes A LOT to rip it. Woke up dry, no tears, and no issues :) I can totally understand why in would make people uncomfortable but groundsheets are made of Wolverine lol.

Ah Christ. See if it bursts after 1 use lol. Pete, I don't know if you can recall in my earlier videos where I was complaining about sleep and comfort, but this has been a game changer and it has helped. I wouldn't take it below temps around 5/6c if you are warm sleeper with a closed cell foam mat, as it's a summer mat. Let me try at the weekend as temps are to get down to around 3c where I'm going. I'll do this for you mate lol.

Hi, Monty! Loved the new tent; it will be bombproof and roomy enough when you're stuck inside for extended periods of bad weather. Excellent photography this vid. Very immersive, the sounds and images of nature as art in wind, fire and water. Nice vids of the details that heal the mind and soul of the outdoorsman: rain dancing off the loch,beading and running down the tent,hissing in the glow of fire. The play of light and shadow, the slight wind rustling the leaves. You caught it well, mate.

well Monty the wife and I use the OEX coyote 111, the best thing is the fly goes up first so if its raining the inner doesnt get wet and tons of room , It has a hydro head of 5000 and if need be I can string a tarp over to make it even more.All in all a great video mate
I had the OEX Coyote. It was my first tent and it was a belter. I had it out in 60-65 mph winds and it handled it with ease. It's a palace. I gave it to someone who was struggling for money so it has a new home, but it's a great tent :) Thanks for watching and for your input mate. ATB.

I need to time it to perfection, but dam right I am pushing this tent to it's limits.
Good luck pitching that tent in the rain. The inner will be soaked. The structure looks like a cheap knock-off of a TNF VE-25.
Mate. My house is a cheap knock off of the TNF VE-25 lol. And I am not looking forward to pitching this in the rain at all. It's real downside.
It certainly looks like a hotel room for one in the outdoors. I don’t fancy carrying that too far but would love the comfort and space.
@@hnahler Yeah, that's the infuriating thing about camping: major sacrifices. So I am 6 foot 3 with a poor back and poor sleep so I aim for comfort therefore space. Sadly I need to sacrifice weight for this!
I don't mind carrying heavy but it does come with injury risks.

Took my canoe here today for the first time it’s a nice little Loch..seems very popular tho but still lovely 👍
Those giant "C" doodads are supposed to hold both poles; one corner to corner pole coupled with a front or rear pole. On one of my tents, that clamp has an additional mini bungee which you wrap both poles and secure the bungee in a notch in the "C" clamp. They're pretty important for structural stability. I would think wind stability being their primary function.
Yeah I knew that, but there was no wind hence no guy ropes tied out, so I didn't bother with them. However I do believe I incorrectly set up the vestibule poles! I'm gonna pitch it again in my mate's garden so I can master is before it goes up a mountain.

Peter... you all know my opinion on that utterly magnificent tent. I had it for like 2 years till I saved up and got this bad boy. I really don't like inner first, but we can work with it lol.

That's a well known setup with the Bobcat. Both of them accommodate each other very well.

I got a response back:
I actually have a Force Ten Xenon tent that has these marks on it and Force Ten confirmed that it was just a mark from the machinery while being made and it has no effect on the tent itself nor will it cause any issues in the future. If was just where the wheel of the machine fed the material through and marked it in the process.
No idea what that means, but sounds harmless lol.
I love out doors but that don't look fun...but it's watching you lol 😆
I'm glad you can get some form of enjoyment out of my videos, but give camping a go in the rain, it's something else!

Nice tent, however I’d prefer the Berghaus Grampian which is very similar to the vango, but it pitches all in one without the need for an inner pitch, which it’s a must in Scotland to keep the tent dry when pitching in the rain. 👍🏻
Yeah, I recommended the Grampian to someone as a cheaper alternative. The downsides to the MTN F10 are: inner first (it's a pain,) weight, and pack size. But it's a strong mofo and a lovely colour! I was thinking of getting the Grampian, but I couldn't find it anywhere in green and I'm a fan of vango.

Monty how much of your life do you spend drying tents? Taking inspiration to not worry about rain and just go, the drying but.
Only just started watching this video and noticed you hadn't set the tent up correctly. Those 4 carabiner clips on the inner fly hold the poles together to make an even stronger structure. The silver poles go outside the green poles. Apart from that the tent is totally bombproof. I've had it in 45mph wind with 2 guy ropes not pegged down and it's been fine. Love how you find all these wonderful spots to camp. Keep it up Monty...
First time pitching it mate lol. Wasn't entirely sure what I was doing but I do need to revisit it, but thank you so much for highlighting this, because when I'm out in a storm... Thankfully there were no winds where I was, hence why I never guyed it. I read a review where it handled 90mph winds with ease and I've seen it out in 50mph and the thing barely moved. You must admit your accent is pretty thick or at least it is to me. Not to fear when I moved to East Tennessee it took me 2 years to figure out what the old guy was saying when he greeted me by say “Janeedabuggymame”. That translates to “Do you need a shopping cart, mamme ?”.
@@e2renee Oh without a doubt I have an extremely thick Scottish accent. I speak Scots which has been anglicised, west coast/central to be exact with a hint of east. I find it difficult to speak standard English. English people struggle with me too. I've been mistaken as both Polish and Irish lol.

Great Video Monty. Glad you got your new tent finally, I hope it lives up to your expectations and lasts for years! Closest thing I've had to that tent was my vango odyssey, more poles than you could shake a.... Errr pole at. Unfortunately back in the day they were very susceptible to uv degredation, and mine faded and started to tear very easily. All the best 👍

The worst weather I've ever camped in, it was the only tent left standing by morning..... The roads were covered in tree debris, was a proper storm. The tent looks seriously robust, my only worry would be that when you open the fly sheet door the inner is going to get wet in heavy rain. Those sloped inner doors are not always great as rain gets inside. I hope you love it as much as you hoped you would.

Yeah, 3 times before, I just haven't been on this side of the loch. It's Loch Drunkie. Yeah that's another downside to the tent, it's like the Cloud Peak where the inner pokes out beyond the the door. For a tent of its value, this shouldn't happen but at the same time, very little rain does get in. The major downside with it, is the the inner first pitch that takes AGEEESSSSS. But it's bombproof and I want a bombproof tent.

@@MontyOutdoors yes we’ve got a bombproof Vango mountaineering tent (bright orange?!?!) which is a good few years old now but it’s the same pitch inner first! Annoying!

Aye,a nice looking tent Monty.It seemed to be fine in heavy rain and because of the extra poles in the structure ,it will stand up to the wind really well.Good choice of music during the drone shots.Again nice to see a selection of tent`s in action. All in all a very enjoyable and relaxing wee video ATB

I love the look of that tent but it is just a bit too heavy for my love of summit camping. Vangos are my go to brand though!
Downside to this tent mate is the weight and pack size. The thing is HUGE. But it can handle winds over 90mph lol. Vango, OEX, and Naturehike are my to go :) Thanks for watching and for your input Anthony.

You're not messing about with that f10 bad badboy eh Monty? That looks like it'll take a beating for sure. I have a very old version of that it's called a f10 Baltoro and it's about 14 years old. Weighs a tonne but very strong. ATB mate.
I can't wait to have it out on flat ground, nice and taut, flysheet to the ground and all guy ropes out lol. It's by no means perfect, it's heavy and bulky but if you want strength... Just looked at it mate, looks to be an older version of the one I have. Did you have it out in strong winds? I've got a Vintage F10 appearing in my videos soon btw :)
@@MontyOutdoors aye, it can take a fair whipping mate. They all follow the classic geodesic shape of the TN Quasar tbh. Is your vintage F10 the old orange colored a frame tent? They are magnificent tents.....if very heavy. They still sell them I think.

I've got the old boltoro and the mountain 2 .They are brilliant tents ,had mountain 2 out in storm Katy a few years ago at 800 metres. It got pushed around a bit but never looked like it was going to fail, I could barely stand up out side.
I think for the strength the weight is pretty good, a lot better than a blacklabel hillieberg and half the price.

@@willbrownless8739 100% Will, it's a beast for sure. Love mine but tends to be a Basecamp tent. Up in the hills it's a two man / split the weight gig. Saying that, a lot of otherwise great CZcamsrs spend a fortune on lightweight gear then chuck in 4-6 500 ml cans of beer 😂😂😂😂😂. That's a baltiro in its own right ......learn to drink Whisky.....or don't drink at all. ATB Will
