- Lesotho is a small kingdom landlocked in the gigantic territory of South Africa. Among the poorest in the world, this high country has breathtaking landscapes, but above all it has a rare and precious asset in Africa: water. During the long winter months, the country is covered with snow and in the middle of the peeled mountains, there is even a ski slope very popular with South Africans. On the dirt tracks and deserted roads that cross the mountains, Alice and Fébellina struggle to find new customers for their old taxi. New encounters, mechanical troubles, but also fear and bursts of laughter punctuate the wanderings of the two friends. Justice has no place in the heart of these lost mountains. Cattle rustlers and other criminals sow terror in isolated villages. The police do not venture there: there is no road. The only alternative to crime: the mounted militia. Fierce horsemen who tirelessly chase outlaws from valley to valley. They are nicknamed The Wrath of the Lion. In the no man's land that separates South Africa from Lesotho, vehicles have to face a winding road strewn with pitfalls and cross the Sani Pass, a pass with a sinister reputation, under the gusts of wind. There are very few gas stations in the interior of the country, gasoline is scarce. Reckless drivers face the precipices to supply the lost villages.

The young man helping the old person on a house is a real hero. It's a pity that we just watch and enjoy these videos. Surely they should be a way to help these people. Send him to learn first aid or something. Give him more than a horse for him to continue his kindness. The world needs more people like him.
I have a physical disability and sometimes it's hard for me to live a simple life because I always think my condition is limiting me myself to see a brighter future. After watching this documentary I compared myself and the simple life that people from Lesotho lives. I've realized that I'm wealthy with my disability. Let's appreciate God and the experience of life, some people are really struggling out there and it's not their choice.

I knew Lesotho exists since we were taught geography in school and that it's surrounded by RSA on all sides. But, that's where it stops. I had no idea about anything else. Throughly enjoyed the trip across 🇱🇸. A world of its own. Love from NW India 🇮🇳

The most important remark in all of this is when the young man leading a horse with a sick woman to hospital says, in so many words, respect your elders for their wisdom and storytelling. That is what Africa teaches us. I know. Be humble.

Correction on Lesothians, the nationality of people of Lesotho is known as Basotho (plural) and Mosotho (singular). great documentary thought, its always great to have a home country being documented, keep producing more and more

I have lived my entire teenage and adult life South Africa and never knew this much aboout the plight of Basotho people. Thank you for the wonderful documentary. I hope politicians will see this and try contruct a proper road for the villagers.
I went to Lesotho for the first time in March for The Moshoeshoe walk, I must say Basotho are bery strong people, it made me appreciate what I have so much!

Tell South African politicians also to construct roads in South Africa's rural areas coz they are also terrible even than these roads of Lesotho you see here. I have travelled South Africa both in urban places and rural places where places are terrible. It seems you haven't travelled your own country and that's why you can easily judge situations of other countries leaving out bad situation in your own country.

It is sad how some people tell lies about our countries! Lesotho is not a forgotten kingdom..it is a very beautiful country passionately called The Kingdom in the Sky.
The two ladies are not at all the true reflection of what is happening in the rural areas concerning transportation. Nobody drives a minibus and take long distances to places they dont even know, in search of passengers..THIS GUY IS A LIAR! This is a cooked journalism/narration!
It is true our terrain is very hectic in the rural mountaneous areas, but the story is so much exaggerating!
In 5years all the liars will have no story to tell. This country is an African Paradise!!

This is a great story of resilience and survival. It's a shame that the government can't just invest a little in fixing those roads. Even without paving those roads, just sending a few tractors to widen the road and make them a bit less rocky would help make the trips less dangerous. It's a real shame. Many of our countries' government only think of themselves and do nothing for the most needy of their citizens. Long life to these brave people.

Born lesotho here. We don't need big roads. We need equal partnerships for our diamonds and gold, and fair prices paid for our electricity, water and "overseas" workers.

Watching these documentaries, you conclude that no country is poor and we all need each other for resources. Lesotho has water/ diamonds
The gap in culture and living standards between the West and most rural parts of the world gets bigger all the time, partly because we enabled our own growth by overusing resources and cheap labour from elsewhere. in a globalised world there is meant to be a delicate balancing act so that everyone can share what they have and get what they need at a fair price. yet things just don't work like that in reality. Don't think we should say that the West's idea of success is perfect, maybe it's not what we should all strive for. Somewhere there should be a line between these two lifestyles where one can live comfortably enough.

We don't need catholic priests in charge of our medical facilities, we do need help with modern technology. We don't need global mining giants staking claims the size of Australia. We need fair pay for our migrant workers, agriculture products, electricity and water. We don't need a euro, yankee, russian, Chinese.... company building a highway from Maseru to the sani pass. We do need to call out corruption, ways to improve and inform the world how cool Lesotho is. Freezing if you go in winter, but who cares if you are skiing. ♥️🇱🇸

These words warmed my heart! Didn't expect them from a man, in the remote wilderness in one of the poorest countries in the world. After seeing this documentary, I think that perhaps that was foolish of me. What lovely, warm-hearted people these people are!

I've seen a rear wheel come off a similar taxi (travelling in front of me in South Africa) while a passenger grinned back at me. It slowed down in a shower of sparks while the brake drum was worn away.....everyone lived.

I don't believe it was always desert - much of Africa had more vegetation and rain even just 40 years ago. But humans have decimated huge areas for firewood or farming sadly. Climate change has accelerated over most of the Continent in last 50 years.
its not a desert its just extremely cold without rain in winter (it can reach -20 degrees celsius) so the grasslands turn brown. Then in the warmer months the grasslands turn green again. This was shot in winter. Its just nature.
