Aaliyah easily. She was the first to come out, had the best sounding voice that didn't require screaming and looked the best. All her songs and music videos are iconic, the most I can say for the other 2 is Brandy "Moesha", Monica "Angel of Mine" and The Boy Is Mine for both.

I love all three of these ladies for different reasons:
Aaliyah was BEAUTIFUL, had a killer falsetto, could dance her ass off and had the best stage presence of all three.
Brandy had the biggest career of the three and her runs are always nice and when she gets all in her lower register it's a fool.
Monica's rich and beautiful voice been like this since she was 14 and since her last album came out she dressing them under the table and sounding better than she ever has!

Brandy has got the most amazing control over her voice and listening to her sing is like watching Leonardo da vinci create a masterpiece. It's just a work of art. She just sings beautifully. And her acting skills -- have you watched her guest appearance on Drop Dead Diva. whew. I would love to see her in the remake of The Bodyguard. It would be sooo amazing. And on Dancing With the Stars and Brandy in Africa she showed her dance skills. She's my favorite artist hands down.
I know this argument is wayyy over LOL but I just wanted to add one thing. Aaliyah was taking way more risks than Brandy was. That played a part in why Brandy was bigger. Brandy was America's sweetheart. Did everything the safe way. Aaliyah was unique, chose the weirdo producers in Tim and Missy, wore shades and baggy clothes, hair in her eye. Aaliyah was setting herself up for the long haul by taking risks, setting the trends that even Brandy tried to follow later.

We are in new era and Aaliyah God rest her soul if she were here would be the most relevant. Here why: Aaliyah’s sounds was so far ahead of the two. movie 🎥 roles would’ve push Aaliyah to bigger mainstream platform.
Can we admit that Aaliyah wasn't everybody's favorite though. She became 100x more famous after her death. I agree Aaliyah took the most risks and had the most style, but she died just before all that could pay off. Her most "iconic" songs weren't even big hits during her life.

Aaliyah's music and lyrics . because we can relate to it. i only like Monica's Angel of mine because oft he innocent aspect. Brandy can sing her music is timely and timeless and it's about growing. but Aaliyah's music had innocense and strength is what women forget as e age. A had that nothing to lose and going all in with her style. Monica had range but her music as too grown at her age at the time.

It wasn't because of better management at all. In the 90s Brandy was more popular than Aaliyah. She had movies and her own hit tv show, along with her multiplatinum albums. She also got a grammy. That is the reason why she was on Oprah and she deserved to be there. Aaliyah would have been on there too because she was lined up to do alot of movies
They were the sh** back in the day and they was all cool with each other.

Nah bruh Aaliyah had pipes as well. Just cus she made it look effortless, doesn't mean she was just looks. And I would say Brandy's live vocals back then were not the best, not like they are in present day...too much hype about her being the vocal bible. She can riff and run, but that doesn't make a good singer.

I loved all 3 of them man... Aaliyah to me was the best performer, I thought Monica was the strongest vocalist back then, but Brandy had the best music. They all were unique in their own way. All of em had hits man, its hard to say who was better because we all loved them. They damn sure are better than what we have now days..these people they are blasting on the radio singing this "alleged" R&B..its more Hip POP and techno. Our soulful craft just going down the drain.
Brandy has way more vocal control based on these clips. The other 2 had flat notes & pitch problems Brandy’s performances were vocally more solid than the other 2 but I love all three. Brandy just has a better musical ear & understanding of vocal placement. She has the best vocal technique out of the 3.
Brandy’s “better control” makes sense because between the 3 she’s reaching for the least amount of notes. Monica’s belting some pretty powerful notes, Projecting her voice & Aaliyah’s hitting those high head notes, exploring her vocal range and Brandy is just doing riffs staying way too much in her comfort zone... she played it the most safe.

Each had something unique to offer. As a Detroit kid, I have to admit Aaliyah got way more love after she died. Black communities always loved her, but she didn't have Brandy or Monica's commercial success. Her death was tragic, and she was on the verge of a global takeover... but she wasn't there yet.

People always talk about Aaliyah's voice but Aaliyah always sounded exactly how she sounded on her records. Aaliyah just had such potential as an artist. She could sing and dance, plus she had style. Brandy and Monica only sing, Aaliyah was much more versatile. Monica had the strongest voice though. Brandy had more confidence in her voice than Aaliyah, that's why she sounded better live. Aaliyah was always timid.
brandy wins. it's a shame that she hasn't done more acting because she is probably's the 90s best example of successful in film, television, and music that so many wannabes are doing today (but Brandy's more special because she did it at a time when few did it)

I was suprised that with all the great songs Aaliyah had that songs like
"One in a Million", "4 Page Letter","Are You That Somebody?","Rock the Boat"did not even the top ten on the billboard Hot 100 charts.Aaliyah had 4 top ten hit's and Brandy had six.
That's because 3 of the songs you've mentioned weren't singles they were just radio airplays
