  • If your stopcock is leaking here is the way to fix it. Done as a real job in the usual position stuck under a sink cupboard. This job often happens after you have had to turn the water off for another job or when you going away on holiday. Don`t call the plumber, do it yourself. Save pounds.

About four of your videos have just not only saved me a princely sum, but also shown me that I am not a total incompetent, and contributed to getting out of a depression. This is stuff my father tried to teach me decades ago we hen I couldn't be bothered. I shall certainly donate when I have next been paid. Thank you very, very much.

Once again, you helped me out. I did call a plumber anyway, because unlike your dribble I had a stream coming out of the top. I was scared to touch it in case it disintegrated or something, and turned into an uncontrolled mains pressure flood. He told me to give it a go as he would only do exactly that if he came out. So I did as you showed, and it worked perfectly. I left him a positive check-a-trade review for calling back (he was in the middle of something) and taking the time to give me the confidence to do it. But thanks to you too, for your clear, concise and educational videos here on YT. Even 6 or 7 years later, this video is helping people like me out.

OMG you are a lifesaver! Had to close the main water tap to fix a leaky connection in the bathroom. When I got back to re-opening the main water tap, it started sprouting water from the stopcock. As it was really old I thought it was done for and I had to put an emergency call to the plumber. Searched on youtube to see if there is a cheaper solution and came across your video. Did not for the life of me thought if your solution would fix it beacusenny issue was much more than a leak. But it worked like a charm! Many thanks for this. I saw it maybe two years ago after my plumber had bodged the job by putting the ptfe on the outside of the gland. It occasionally leaked if the stopcock was knocked fully open but keeping it just closed enough for water to come through at the right pressure was enough. It's taken that long to conjour up the nerve to do it properly. I followed your instructions and it's sorted and my stress levels are now reduced. Thank you. Really, thank you.

Legend! Easy to understand, and if a diy idiot like me can follow these instructions, anyone can! Fixed this a week ago using your advice and all is well. Proud as punch not to mess something up!

Many thanks, stopped my leak. Had some PTFE tape, took me half an hour to find it and a suitable spanner but then just a couple of mins to fix the leak. Cheers for the video.

nice one, just fixed my bath tap and found the stopcock now leaks only problem I have is the location right at the back of a corner unit with very limited access so it,s all elbows and wrists whilst laying on my back, was going to call a plumber but can now fix it myself with a little snaking and crawling, you are a legend thank you

    Many thanks.
Just fixed an annoying drip under the sink. However I did have to turn off the mains as the gland began to spray a little. Once packed and tightened up I put the mains back on and found an ever so slight leak. As advised, I then tightened while ensuring free movement of the tap.
    Job done! Thanks again.

Hi Daniel , ptfe tape is not a must, it`s just that it is readly available . A skim of jointing compound will not do it. A twist of hemp or a short bit of waxed string will also do it.
    Kind regards,
    al.

Fantastic advice, thank you very much. Just this minute fixed my stopcock using this method. Isolated the main water as I wasn't exactly sure how the old stopcock would behave on unscrewing but the PTFE did it! Saved me a fortune no doubt, will buy you a beer through your website! 🍻

dereton33 our stopcock would be better in another spot as its right by the front door and can't be hidden, so ugly and I'll never understand why it was placed there, even would've been better on the opposite side of where it is as then it could be boxed off with a little cupboard, wondering is it an easy job to move and an approx cost would be helpful. No worries if you'd rather not answer this one, I've quizzed you enough for one day :)

Great advice. My job was in a 1930's house with the stopcock inserted into what looked like swaged / flared lead pipe almost at ground level at the back of a cupboard. It would have been a nightmare to replace even with a lead loc connector. At least it can wait now until the kitchen is refitted. THANKS
