I know what the "Bing bong" sound is for but I'm always afraid it's the pilot telling the crew " there's something wrong"

Another sound you may hear with the A320 when it is flying around 8000 feet above you is that whistling or howling sound (some people find it kind of eerie). That is the FOPP which creates a "blowing on a bottle" effect. The FOPP equalizes fuel tank pressure.

The autopilot disconnect sound always terrified me hearing alarms from the cockpit lol 😂 glad I know what it is now
Love the barking dog on the Airbus, Wonder why they have never re-engineered this to be a quieter, as many a time I look and see the other passengers faces look scared to death when the PTU comes to life,
Mark off topic question but still related to noises, why is that the Airbus series after take off and the landing gear is starting to retract is that you get the ding dong cabin chime?
It’s because the exit signs are connected to the no smoking signs for some odd reason and they stay in the auto position and will cycle with the gear. It’s the exit signs coming on and off and cycling that gives the bing.

The ap disconnect sound is freaky
I live in a flight path of Manchester airport (when the planes are landing from the south) and often hear this noise when planes are landing - they are usually about 4,000 to 3,500ft and it’s like an incredibly loud grinding down sound, almost like they are shutting engines down? It’s a total ‘shift’ in sound I can’t really explain it but it’s so loud!! Always wondered what it is! Any ideas?
Hi, I was on a easyjet A320 flight to Tel Aviv in Jan 2023. When the landing gear was deployed it seemed like it was taking forever.... I always listen for two bumps for when the left and right landing gear as come down. I only heard one bump and then the drag that occurs went on for a lot longer than what I usually expect. Next thing I know the plane is pitching up and we are doing a go aroud. We were at around 700ft according to flight radar 24 info. This was due to a blockage on the runway according to the pilot. The next time around we landed normally...... What i didnt hear yet again was the expected 2 bumps from the left and right landing gear engaging...... So after all these years of flying I had been listening for the 2 bumps mistakenly to help me feel that all the gear was down for landing lol.
Thanks Capt. Mark, very enlightening. One more noise: what’s the very loud, long grinding sound that sounds like a rusty spiral actuator being screwed down. It often goes in waves, like “uh, uh, uh, uh, uh”, if that makes any sense. 😂

1:54 what is that loud humming noise during takeoff? What’s the science behind it? I’m curious. It’s not on all planes, but only on some planes. I mean it’s not rare, but it’s not on all planes. Mostly it’s smaller, domestic planes.
While cruising, there are moments when it gets really loud, my guess is wind, but is it really just wind? Are speed brakes being used? Idk..
I'm familiar with most noises, but could only guess as to what this was
I'll be watching a movie then suddenly it's just really loud for like 20-30 seconds, are my ears adjusting? Happened like 2-3 times during my last flight while what I assume was already cruising altitude
how long into the flight? could just be going through different waypoints, think of it as a motorway. some areas might be 80mph limit, some may be 90mph. it’s most likely the engines powering up to increase the speed, then after around 25 secs your ears get used to it.
I've been told that the 'properller' sound from the engine at hgh thrust settings (e.g. take-off) is the tips of the fan blades breaking the sound barrier. Is this true?
Yeah but it’s not as simple as that. Because the blades are in a low pressure environment the speed of sound is lower than in the ambient air at sea level so the sonic booms are subdued
Pressure and density both contribute to the velocity of sound equally and thus cancels each other out. Hence, Air pressure has no effect on sound speed.
@@tomking1890 the air pressure being lower has a side effect of the temperature being lower which is the reason for the change in mach. I suppose I should have specified that.
