  • In this video, I speak with my good friend Dylan Rhorer who prior to joining the Coast Guard served as an Infantryman in the U.S. Marines.
Dylan talks about what it was like working day-to-day in the Marines as an Infantryman vs Coast Guard.

My neck started hurting when he brought up cleaning weapons for 2 hours. Those were the days...Not good days but still.
I've been out since January of this year and was thinking about talking with a coast guard recruiter because I'm a prior service 0311 but was hesitant about signing on thinking it would just be the same constant chasing your own tail garrison BS in the Marines. This video certainly changed my perspective. Love how you interview people who have actually been there and done that.

I was a E2 and before making E3, I had my "CG-313" boat crewman signed off and was already driving the 17ft inboard patrol boat, and was breaking in to operate the 40 and 41footer. This was back in 79. I doubt you will find a E2 or E3 running a 47 but I knew of many SNBM's who were coxn's of 41's and 44's back in the day. They were not surfmen, yet, but they were working their way there. Not the norm but not rare. I'm sure with all the newer boats, there's a limit to the size you can pilot as per your rank. I could be wrong but for me all that ended 22+ years ago when I retired. I wonder what rank you can be in the Marines to qualify and drive a tank?

Great video. Lol it’s so funny looking back on your time in the USMC and hearing others makes me always reminisce.
