When I used to perform the one-time impromptu version, their selection was at the exact number on the card (yours is 'one after' the number) ie: 4 of Diamonds, when I deal down, their card is the 4th from the top of the deck.
I like it.
I thought I was so clever until you did it again.
I tend to focus on impromptu stuff but this is worth the set up
Cool trick I think Sean Devine taught something similiar to the first one but he didn't use df card simple & hard hitting ty

Not sure it makes sense to use a double facer instead of just using a regular card as you can't examine the card.

Is there a reason you are counting all the numbers, and then showing the next card instead of the actual number? In other words, if using an 8 for the double facer, why not show the 8th card as the reveal instead of the 9th? I guess it doesn't matter much, but nailing the exact number somehow feels better to me.
Just a personal choice. I like to control the reveal of the card. There's a beat after counting the cards where I can hold onto the selected card, and I feel like I get a better reaction when I can hold for a moment as I say, "And eight cards down is..." and then hit that reveal. If it feels better to you I encourage you to perform it that way. We are getting into a nuanced part of discussion around presentation and performance. The decision to get it bang on or not will be largely dependant on the style in which you typically perform.

I think it's because you lead them down this strange path that they don't really understand and then when you get that reveal it recontextualizes everything.
